if someone can make a ps2 emulation out of the ps3 non-bc system, that means he understands the ps3 structure more than the Sony engineers, which I doubt.
I just don't see PS2 emulation happening on a non-BC PS3 without an additional hardware / bridge, except maybe the very light games like MojibiribbonSony removed OtherOS simply because they didn't feel like paying their developers to keep it up to date across firmware and hardware changes.

So it's most likely the same with with PS2 emulation. Cost, not difficulty. They had it, then they stopped... most likely because they didn't feel like paying their developers to keep updating something that wasn't really making them money.
With the actual PS3 games, of course Sony's getting money from that.
With Move you're buying new stuff from them to use it.
With the 3D TV support, Sony sells TVs as well, so they stand to profit.
With PS2 games, Sony's not seeing anything resembling the kind of profit the other stuff can give, so they cut it.
