1. Did it freeze for you at the Baby's Cry Cutscene?
- No
2. Which filesystem did you use? Or did you use a disc?
- Philips Media - DVD+DL - Layer Break at 2084960 - Book Setting DVD-ROM
3. Which cIOS did you try?
- cIOSrev20 with IOS56 as base
4. Which loader did you use? Which revision?
- NeoGamma r8 FINAL
5. Which release did you use?
- The -snipped- one
6. Did you remove the update partition manually? If yes, how?
- I did not remove the partition. And yes, it was there because i opened the ISO with WiiScrubber, just for confirm the partition there. I was thinking to burn one with the update partition and if does not work burn another without it. The first one works perfectly (the one with update partition).
7. Please describe the issue: Does it with the picture on screen? Black screen? "An error occurred"?
- No erros

I think there is an problem with some releases arround the web. Maybe its one file of the 71 rars files maybe broken or something. My Wii have the system menu version at 3.1 and i dont think the update will intervene in anything.

At this point, there are two common things that cause the Baby's Cry freeze: Having the Wiitard release, and/or having cIOS rev14 or rev16.
Just compiling it in one post.

You may be right, but who said he's using rev14 or rev16? Anyways, rev16 is broken completely and nobody should expect to load any game properly with it. And on rev14 it *SHOULD* be known that it breaks *ALL DL GAMES*.

for those who have the ridley scene freeze

i believe the source of this problem is wii backup manager and wii game manager, more specifically the older versions of wbfs_file they appear to use. i used the wbfs_file from cfgloader page manually and i was finally able to get past the freeze. http://code.google.com/p/cfg-loader/downlo...mp;can=2&q=

i swear i tried 2 different releases, other_m.rar and the new bioshock proper release, tried different revisions of config loader, usbgx, and wiiflow, tried every combination of hermes v4 and v5 as well as all wanins cios v17-20, all resulting in same freeze.

note: i did not remove the update partition when using wbfs_file manually, so my R3OE01.wbf1 file is a few hundred megs bigger than the ones created with previously mentioned wbfs managers, however i believe the problem is with older wbfs_file.exe. already spent lots of time trying to fix this so its possible the update partition was the problem, but im of the opinion it was the outdated wbfs_file.exe. maybe someone else who has this problem and uses this fix can confirm.

hope this saves someone of going through all the trouble i did

+ confirmed

thx you so much for figuring out the problem

I added this info to the 1st post. Maybe there's a 4GB file restriction somewhere in that bad wbfs_file.exe.

1. Did it freeze for you at the Baby's Cry Cutscene? If it freezed on other cutscene, please describe it here.
2. Which filesystem did you use? Or did you use a disc?
3. Which cIOS did you try? Please only post the cIOS your loader actually used. There's no point in writing about Hermes and Waninkoko in CFG for example, if you have both installed, but don't tell CFG correctly to use the one or the other.
4. Which loader did you use? Which revision?
5. Which release did you use?
6. Did you remove the update partition manually? If yes, how?
7. Please describe the issue: Does it with the picture on screen? Black screen? "An error occurred"?

1. No, other one: You just had a fight with a giant beast, then you chase that beast, then you come in sector 3.
2. FAT32
3. rev20-57
4. USB Loader GX. Latest beta
5. Wii-ind
6. No
7. In sector 3 you talk with the boss, then the sound goes away, cutscene is finished, but I can't move anymore -> freeze.

If you want to check if your copy of Metroid is ok, using WiiScrubber extract the movie "dm03to04.sfd" (this is the baby's cry cutscene) and play it using VLC and if the movie freezes and doesnt play until the end then the copy you have is more than likely bad.
I tried this on the WiiTard release and the movie froze at the exact same point as it does in the game, the movie plays fine when tested using a working copy.

How far into the game is Ridley's scene?

1. Not during the Ridley scene but during the battle itself. It freezes and there is an annoying buzzing sound.

2. USB- NTSC, Fat32, and WBFS

3. Every possible combination of Hermes v4 v5 and Ciosx rev19 and 20, my wii is also fully updated to 4.3 with all clean ios's.

4. Wiiflow 2.1, Cfgusb 58

5. XB3, bioshock, other_m.rar

6. Tried with and without the update partition.

As you can probably guess, I am effin fed up of watching that extra long unskippable cutscene. I quit!!! This game is not working for me.

hmm what i actually did to bypass this was i found a completed gamesave and copied it to my system so that it allowed me to bypass that troublesome babys cry movie. and continue onto the first part of the game! so far so good. using wiitards release. dont want to get another release which could take another 2-3 days on slow DSL. well hope this helps someone... though its not a real solution. thought i should share.

Could you elaborate a little bit and go through the steps that you used to fix this? I used the program to convert the ISO to a WBFS file and copy it to the HD and still got the freeze.

usbloadergx r938 with ios222 rev4 on fat32hdd
proper-bioshock release converted with wbfs_file v2.9, default options i.e. ">wbfs_file.exe bs-met.iso"
manually moved the R3OE01.wbfs and R3OE01.wbf1 files to my /wbfs folder on hdd
success

Ok.. I have got a problem here...
The game did not freeze. When i was playing it it stops and shows me that "The game disc could not be read"
I eject the disc and insert again. Then the game continues.
Maybe it's my drive or not?

I was repeatedly getting the freeze on the Baby's Cry cutscene as well. UNTIL I installed the latest cios249 (rev17) that I found here:

http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-g...-installer.html

Once that was installed I re-ripped my retail disc (yeah, I own it) and finally got past the cutscene (yay!) Not sure if that's the issue for anyone else, but if you're using a rip generated on a system with a cios249 prior to rev17 (e.g. rev14) that's probably causing the freeze.

For reference, I used WiiFlow 1.1 to rip the disc and to play it (selecting ios222 in the game menu when playing). I also installed ios56 per the suggestion here:

http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-games/66261-me...rking-here.html

but I don't think that particular ios was related to the cutscene freeze (it still froze after the ios56 install prior to re-ripping). Hope this helps!

It's a known issue that cIOS rev14 doesn't read everyhting correctly from DL discs. So if you dump OR play the game with that, you get some error.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, I don't know what version of that cIOS I have. what is the newest one, anyway?

The latest NeoGamma or CFG will tell you that. You probably want cIOS56 rev20 for now if you don't use wifi or the nand emu.
