For me, I'll say repair the Lite and wait for 3DS.

Buying a DSi XL then later 3DS is going to be costly. Considering the price for 3DS are likely to be over $200.

I was just wondering if you decided yet and if my photos helped you.
Yeah, your photos was very helpful, thank you!

That's why I'm in this situation:
- If I repair my DS Lite, I wouldn't really want to play games on it because the DSi is better.
- But I wouldn't want to, if the DSi XL is superior to than that
- But if the DSi XL is pixelated and maybe too big (but I don't think I can't handle it - yes I'm going to use it on-the-go) then it's not so good and then,
- The 3DS would be the best, but it's still haven't released yet so I would have to wait, and also, I wouldn't really play old DS games on it, when I could play awesome 3DS games on it!

So there you have it... any ideas?

I use my dsi ll on the go all the time its not impossible but its way more awkward to carry then say a ds lite. For me the dsi ll is the only way to go. On a side note i dropped my dsi ll yesterday on concrete like a 5 ft drop not even a scratch on it! maybe I just got lucky but the thing seems sturdy

I guess you should wait for 3DS. My Ds lite still works, but it's almost unplayable... just for games that use mostly touch screen. My D-pad sunk like titanic... and i'm very happy that 3DS is going to have an analogic. I'll buy it for sure.

Personally, I think you should wait for the 3DS. Not only are the DSi lines expensive, but you have the hassle of updates, and a lack of the slot 2. The Supercard DSTWO remedies this situation however. In the DSi line, there is DLC via DSi Ware, but quite a bit of it is a cash in, especially with games that are basically just a split up version of an original DS game. Coming from a standpoint of a tight wallet, I would repair your DS lite they will not charge you for a new one. If all else fails, check your local [?] (whatever you have where you live), or an internet site (that deals in used or refurbished game consoles) and try to get it cheaper. The 3DS is shaping up to be a beast of a console, and from what we have deduced it will be substantially more expensive than the DS.

No one even knows if ANY of the flash carts will work on a 3DS at this point in time. And if they happen to NOT work... if it will be possible to make new ones that do. Hell, DSi specific features in games don't even work with current carts let alone a game with 3D features on a system that isn't even out yet. Not to mention that the security on the 3DS is supposedly greatly improved.

To my eyes and to those of everyone who has played my DSi XL, there is absolutely ZERO noticeable increase of pixelation on the XL. But from what I've heard you have to hold the 3DS in a certain exact distance from your eyes AND at a quite precise angle or else you'll lose the 3D effect.

Get an XL/LL now and just forget about the 3DS for a few years or more.

I'm in this same boat. I've had my DSLite for nearly 4 years now. After seeing the DSi XL at a Dragon Quest event, I immediately became jealous and wanted one. Of course I'd have to invest in a SCDS2 not just for compatibility but for the GBA emulator. I would love to take Mother 3 on the go.

I have my DSi with my Acekard, set up with the NESDS and the Lameboy emulators. It is AMAZING! Most of my Nintendo handheld gaming library is stored and playable on one little microSD card with a brighter screen and everything. (The exception is my GBA library, which I refuse to pack away in the basement until the SuperCardDSTwo team makes their emulator work with about 98% accuracy of the games I love to play.)

With that said, after my Acekard, my DSi became an integral gaming system in my life and it was one of the greatest consoles I've ever purchased. Right now, the flash cart scene is very much unknown when it comes to the 3DS since we don't have a system yet to start developing for.

Also, the DSi is just a million times better when it comes to everything (except the potential software updates that block flash carts). It has two cameras of course, a music player, an image editor, it can send pics to facebook, and it can do a whole host of things. I also have the super mario calculator which is really adorable and some games off the DSi's version of the Wiiware channel.

It's worth getting a DSi or XL at this point in time. The 3DS from what it seems isn't merely just a DS upgrade - it's the next gen in handheld consoles I think.

if you don't upgrade now your ds lite/phat mabe worth 20 pounds (so really it won't be a huge discount)
What do you mean?

Also. I'm wondering about this viewing angle thing. I know my DS Lite had a VERY BAD viewing angle. I literally had to adjust the screen to play games, which had an effect on the touch screen (it was too bright - viewing angle issue) and it was so annoying and all...

I'm wondering... does the DSi have a better viewing angle or a completely good one, like the DSi XL? I heard that with the DSi XL, they fixed the viewing angles. So that would be one more reason for me to get it.

It is true. With the 3DS released the value of DS Lite and DSi will probably decrease. DSiXL will probably decrease but I doubt it since it is still considered new. In my opinion I would gladly upgrade to a XL that way I can enjoy my DSTWO in a bigger screen and movies. At the moment I have a DSi and I have not been able to sell it yet. If anybody is interested I will sell it for 145 bucks.

Includes:
DSi
Screen Protector
Soft Skin
Stylus'
R4i Gold
160 if you want it w/Acekard2i

Yes I advertised.

Upgrade while you can because the 3DS will not be 100% when it comes out as in people need to bypass its anti piracy in order for flashcarts to work so that causes more waiting.

Yes. If you want to upgrade do it now. The only reason I bought a DSi was because the 3DS announcement caused the price of what I was gonna pay for a brand new DS Lite (£100), so instead I decided to upgrade to a DSi and I am loving it.

I still prefer the original DSi to the XL mainly cause of the size. I have had my eyes on a yellow XL, but I will most likely buy another DSi (White this time) if I have more disposable income in the future or if the price drops to around £60 - 70.

Hm, I dunno... mixed opinions here.

I think I will wait till September 29 (3DS Announcement from Nintendo) and see what's what.

I don't really want to go back to Lite now... whenever I remember back the days, while they was cool, I also remember how bad the viewing angle was and this time, when I get back to the DS Gaming, I don't want to miss any detail and I hate bad viewing angles more than anything. So, for anything, I would get the DSi XL just because of that. The other features, like the big screens, are an added plus!

hello um when i first got a ds i got a ds fat . . .
nds.gif
. . . i was late i mean i got a warranty and tried to get it replaced at the game store i got it from and to my surprise got a used ds lite in exchange
grog.gif
because they no longer refurbished the ds fat . . . 2 ds lites later "cheap shoulders"
hate2.gif
. . . i traded it on in for a dsi
yaynds.gif
when dsi xl came out i thought i can trade up again . . . and so i did just that
unsure.gif
i think i was more happy with the dsi just because there is not a lot of dsixl accessory's at the game shops "i know i can go to this site or that one but idk theirs nothing like talkin to real people in real places you know" it is fun to show to your less fortunate friends but after that its just bulky you ask me get a dsi bigger slightly better lit screens than a lite

and not trying to piss on any parade but i think you can get a used dsi cheaper than 150 usd now and if he is posting here i mean look at the thread location "GBAtemp.net > Nintendo DS Discussions > NDS - Flashcarts and Accessories > DSi/DSi XL or wait for the 3DS? " i think he has one

Next time please organize what you write. It hurts my eyes to read what you are saying.

IMO, 150 for a used DSi (even XL) is still expensive.

Oh damn, really. Thank you for pointing out that. I will try and get this thread moved to the NDS - Console and Game Discussions category.

My bad.

having had a dslite for a while and recently purchasing an XL, here's my take. I like the XL a lot. Bigger screens for the win. I don't think there's much of a pixelation problem. I could never play the dslite as much as I wanted because it was so tiny I'd get cramps in my hands for playing extended periods. Not a problem with the xl. I prefer to play in the XL, bottom line. Here's the only thing. That mother is pretty huge by comparison. So, takes more pocket space, a little more cumbersome to hold up for long periods. Not a big deal, but an fyi. It still wins over the lite. And waiting for the 3ds (while looking awesome) might be a long wait.
