Carrianne Howard dreamed of designing video games, so she enrolled in a program at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, a for-profit college part-owned by Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Her bachelor’s degree in game art and design cost $70,000 in tuition and fees. After she graduated in December 2007, she found a job that paid $12 an hour recruiting employees for video game companies. She lost that job a year later when her department was shuttered.

These days, Howard, 26, makes her living in a way that doesn’t require a college diploma: by stripping at the Lido Cabaret, a topless club in Cocoa Beach, Florida. “I didn’t know what else to do,” she says. “I’ve got a worthless degree. It’s like I didn’t attend school at all

That's why you don't go for 'degrees' that actually have the word Game in them, she should have gone for a computer science degree, then not only would she have been qualified to design games, she would be qualified for a lot of other jobs and wouldn't have gotten stuck stripping.

That sucks, she just fucked up her life. I'm sure that there would be plenty of other opportunities if she tried harder...

Yep. That's what I plan to do. Just hope I get the ATAR (that's 90+ btw).

What a sad ending... albeit slightly tragic-comic.

(Of course, I just went for general computer science, since I want to aid others, not just make games. Sure, making games is an aid, but I am thinking more widely.)

I wonder how many new visits Lido Cabaret will get now that this news is out?

This is exactly what I did. I enrolled at my college as a game design/development major but when I went to register for my classes, I signed up for classes so I can get a Computer Science degree because I could still develop games AND I'd have something to back me up in case it doesn't go well for me. Cause with a CS degree, you can pretty much do anything that is related to computers.

Tough, that what happens when you have a few college students who thinks its easy to get a job. That's why getting something like a editor, engineering, computers, electronics is a wise investment
