I don't know why they haven't completely blocked DS piracy on the DSi.
'Cause they can't block DS flash carts without blocking actual DS games.

Thats the thing, they could if they tried. Just forcing the flash carts to use an icon from a real game was a bit of a cop out.

The 3DS should be very attractive for hackers. 3D + a good video chip with build-in features like anti-aliasing etc. Meaning that there could be some awesome portable homebrew on it. At least a good GBA emulator, and some 3D gimmicks. Combine the C/GPU power with an SD slot, and a portable media center homebrew (Moonshell 3D?) will be on it's way.

In my vision, the 3DS is way more attractive to be hacked, than the DSi, which only has a little more RAM and CPU power. I give it a small year before the first code is being ran. After that the cat and mouse games will begin..

For me it's as simple as this:

I have a GBA, DS Lite and a Wii so: I can play every game for Gameboy, GBA, DS, Wii, Wiiware, Gamecube, Nintendo 64, Neo Geo, and via emulators also NES, Super Nintendo, Megadrive, PC Engine + many many more.

So when the 3DS comes out and appears to be unhackable, I simply WON'T buy one. I have to many games I haven't played or finished as it is. Why the heck do I want to buy games all of a sudden just because it has better graphics and 3D???? IT doesn't change the fact that there's still a shitload of magnificant games out there that I even haven't touched yet.

Off course this is the result of only wanting to play for free. You could see it as a curse, but I see it as a way to focus on what I already have, which is awesome!

So if they manage to hack the 3DS in order to play free games on it, I will IMMEDIATELY buy one. If that's not the case, I'm out, but still happy with what I've got.
That post and others after, basically you appear to be a video gaming mix of ocd and adhd using any excuse under the sun to try and qualify why you're a filching thieving twat who gets all crybaby when he can't steal shit you should be paying for (at least in some cases.) I can't stand people who go 100% in or 100% out with stuff like this, just criminally assholish to the end. If someone loves the hardware enough, buy a few games to show some appreciation, or you end up with a situation kind of where the PSP has fallen into where people won't make games because more copies are jacked than bought.

All I know is with the 3DS since Nintendo is in total la-la land with the console end of things, I'd love to see this sucker stay locked down hard for the foreseeable future much like DSiware has been among other little things.

notice Nintendo hasn't released any more updates that actually ADD FEATURES.

like more camera options and shit....

shows what the real purpose was for firmware updates........

Hmmm... A lot of people are nintendo fanboys here on gbatemp, but it seems like a lot of you wont support nintendo, and would only buy the 3ds when hacked. Seems like a dickish move to me. Also it's because of people like you that Nintendo makes their AP stronger to keep you guys out. I mean what is a thousand people not buying the 3ds compared to millions. Also, not buying the 3ds until its hacked won't get it hacked faster, like what I keep repeating in this thread. If you'll only buy the 3ds when hacked, then hack it yourself. I mean your waiting anyways, why not do something while waiting.

Yeah, the hackers don't make money off of you buying a 3DS.

Hacking and pirating are new to me, within the past 4 years. I've spent the majority of my life sacrificing allowances, and waiting until birthdays to get the next great game. I pirate now, out of convenience and laziness, not due to the fact that I can't afford the games. When I hear these spoiled fucktards complain that they can't get games for free, it makes me sick. This is why I almost hope that Nintendo does combat piracy, because honestly, piracy has cheapened the experience of being a gamer for me.

Pretty soon games (which legitimate people with real jobs who dedicate their live to creating these experiences) become passable, convenient, of no monetary importance to a pirate. I download shovelware just to have a laugh, but then feel bad when I sell a crappy game to a customer at work (for real money). Listening to these people argue over something that shouldn't be free in the first place, is simply disappointing.

I'm a firm supporter of homebrew, and the creative environment it provides for enthusiastic coders, and future developers. I'm 100% supportive of emulation as preservation, since emulators allow us to relive games that may never be released again in the future. There's nothing worse than thinking about a great game that will die as a memory, and never have the chance to be shared, or "live on" forever.

I will buy a 3DS immediately, and I will purchase actual games that are worth the price of admission, and I will be happy. If flashcarts come along, great, I'll buy them. I never expected flashcarts when I bought my original DS, and I'm prepared to do the same for the 3DS.

if someone will not buy the 3DS because it's not hacked your a ***** idiot and will be waiting along time for it. Nintendo has been killed by piracy for years now. If anyone says piracy doesnt affect the sales of games you either stupid or kidding yourself. I expect this to have serious protection on it, and like someone says it can be hacked, but that doesnt mean it will play backups. Which i dont see happening for 3-4years.

nintendo just needs to give up on beating piracy...it'll never happen. maybe, instead of wasting money creating new anti-piracy measures, they should invest in third-party support. I thought, at least, with the ds and especially the wii, that there would be a lot of support due to their popularity. however, my ds and wii collect dust for months at a time as I wait for another decent release. whatever happened to nintendo's seal of approval for games on their systems??? it's 95% shovelware these days!

It probably a lot of good game for ds and wii , you are just using a made up excuse of 95% shovelware , to say every game should be pirated and to say they should make it easier for hackers and piracy.

I understand u might not have money for good games or games at all , but there no need to bash (about
rolleyes.gif
) every ds/wii game to shovelware.

Going to buy a 3DS ASAP. While it would be nice to see it hacked I could care less whether or not piracy is possible. Although I would like some sort of softmod.

*homebrew hobbyist*

I only bother with piracy for
A - old games that emulators offer fancy features for, like Chrono Cross (save states have saved my cheating ass many a time)
B - old games that just aren't available otherwise. EEEEEARTHBOUND
C - translated/unavailable in America games. Gotta appreciate the effort in fan translations and I'm not bothering to import (Tingle's Balloon Fight is fun, and you unlock creepy pictures of Tingle with which to scare people)
D - combinations of the above. EEEEEARTHBOUND 2 - better known as Mother 3

Also, 5% of 1000+ DS games is still 50 games.

And + something or other to dsfanatic5 and like posts since.

I used to do the whole jack a game thing back when it was the 32MB Bung GBC copier and I had earlier on a pair of GBA copiers too, but the thing is sure I pounded the hell out of the GBC one, GBA not so much, mostly was emulation, and that probably is why I didn't get a DS one let alone won't for 3DS. I may not be a kid, but I am on a tight enough budget I can get like a game or two a month maybe so I pick wisely, carefully, used non-gamestop(local guy got GOW3 2wks after launch for $40), and sometimes wait for pricedrops or when someone does something nuts when it's new like how Fry's did Uncharted 2 fof $49 ($11 off.)

As someone who used to work in the gaming industry back throughout 2001-2002 for two years I've seen it all from the hypocrites on sites like this who avoid hardware until it's hacked, to turds working on the inside who warez other companies games to steal ideas or just get a freebie. I've outright lost interest other than the random DS download to fire up in no$gba to see if it's something I'd buy or not, that's all, and PC stuff I gave up on some time ago. The fact is jacking games no matter how much you want to convince yourself it hurts no-one, is bullshit. I left the industry being laid off as a end of the year holiday pink slip present due to low sales due to piracy and a lull between game releases being over staffed. Yeah, perhaps that comes off a bit like baggage, dont' give a fuck, as it happened so I get a little cranky at assholes stealing everything other than the hardware itself.

The thing is with the 3DS I know they're going to go more hardcore in the hardware to block people. I imagine given I was told that, the knowledge had to be built from using the DSI and DSIware as a test bed to locking out douchebags. They used to do some steady firmware upgrades, they've stopped, but also do we see anyone getting successful hacks of DSIware games? I don't pay huge attention, so perhaps someone got a way to copy them, but do we see it warezed and running off copier cards and shit yet or emulated...nope. If this was their testbed, likely the 3DS is going to go all the more hardcore and deeper in size and length of the encryption keys being used to keep people out and moer power to them. 3DS doesn't need to end up being gang raped like the PSP continues to be as we don't need another high potential system snuffed out by more game copies being stolen than sold.
