Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice’s family from her and left her terribly burned—and her mind terribly scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, struggling to come to terms with her demons by slipping into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release--yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.

In Alice: Madness Returns, Alice is released from the asylum to a London psychiatrist’s care. As nightmarish hallucinations continue to haunt her and invade her reality, she seeks to understand her torment in order to recover herself. Her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear and neuroses prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Her relocation to London seems only to add to their number and intensity.

Perhaps she’ll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the “real” world can’t provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge.

Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?

Fuck, I need to get this game on my PC. It's old enough so it should meet my PC's requirements. The first one looks damn amazing. I'd buy this game for my Xbox, no doubt about that.
+1 Thats my stance right now. I need to get myself a copy. Its too bad I'm shit when it comes to PC controls. Maybe it can work with my pc controller?

Use JoyToKey if it doesn't bind on its own. I play most of my games with it these days!

fuck it looks like the wii version which was pretty good but supercharged!!
looks like it'll give my gtx 295 a workout too ME WANTEE!

If there was a wii version of this I completely missed it and I want it now. I'm pretty sure though that you're thinking of the Alice game that came out for the Tim Burton movie. This has nothing to do with that. The original game that this is a sequel to came out around 2000 or 2001 and if you've never played it, you should get your hands on a copy it's absolutely amazing.

The first one was good, as an ACTION title. The visuals were stunning, the audio was very fitting, and the gameplay was decent. The story was definitely there, especially if you read the accompanying "journal" that came with the game. I bought this one when it came out, and I almost NEVER do that.

HOWEVER, there was a LOT of missed potential. The fact that it was based in Lewis Caroll's Alice was basically SCREAMING for it to have logic puzzles in it, but alas there were none to be found (except one area where you had to figure out the order in which to pull a set of 3 levers, which was painfully easy.) The gameplay was VERY linear, as there were not multiple areas to explore. I would have liked to have seen an inventory of abstract and weird objects as well, that would have multiple effects in multiple situations, thus adding a LOT of replayability. I would have liked to have also seen multiple endings based on something like score, or objects gathered, or time, or something else.

On the plus side, the character design was very appropriate, with many of the classic characters from the stories being twisted into mutations that reflected Alice's inner torment. The enemies had some decent AI, and the the weapons were a lot of fun to experiment with in different ways. The challenge was definitely there as well. Some of the bosses (the Jabberwock in particular,) took multiple tries and refining strategy to overcome.

Overall the first one was a fun and entertaining game, but it could have been so much more. Even still, I have replayed it twice because of the wonderful environments, creepy audio, and fun weapons. After reading this topic I will probably replay it yet again. It is DEFINITELY worth having in one's collection. I am looking forward to the sequel, and certainly hope it addresses what the first one was lacking.

Yeah the first one was pretty much a Quake game with a disturbed Alice theme and story.

Well that is from 2001 so you shouldn't expect it to look as good, but for it's time the graphics were good, and the art was awesome. I thought the overall atmosphere of the game was great. A sequel may have a hard time matching up to that.
