I have asked some of the game shops what the 3Ds will sell for in Australia, the reply $350Au they also said it won't sell or as one person said(crash and burn) because it will be too expensive, they said it should be $250Au not $350

my local gamestops here in the US, said it will cost $250. which is about 286 of your currency. I suspect there right, as seeing Nintendo said they will make a profit off each unit sold.

I would take that as speculation for now. Nintendo's always prided themselves on making affordable systems while being able to turn a profit. I don't think they'd shoot themselves in the foot by making it too expensive... but who knows.

I will remain optimistic for the time being.

I wouldn't even buy it at $250... don't get me wrong, it looks like it will be badass, but I am content to wait until they have made their profit and the price drops below $200 (preferably below $150)

Of course, our current economy makes this even worse - the US dollar seems more worthless every day...

The people in your local game shop have no more clue what it will cost or how it will sell than anyone else. In fact Australians probably have the least idea of all because going on Nintendo's past form we'll be driving flying cars by the time it's released there.

While the Canadian dollar rises and systems here cost more than in America. They're robbing US. ($160 for a DS Lite!?)

That's an estimate, they haven't announced anything. And I doubt it'll be more than wii. My speculation is it'll be $200 maximum, and DSi will be dropped to $150 and 3DS will be sold at $180-$190 (as DSi was)

DS Lite's are like $120 here.. If they were that expensive, no one would buy them, because DSi's are $170.

From what I've seen, video game prices, including hardware, cost more in Australia than the usual places like Japan, NA, etc.

But in Russia, you are too expensive

Well, the DSi XL is $190, and people didn't complain about that price, so if it is $250, what's the big deal with spending $60 more? That's how much 2 DS games cost. I'm not worried about the price, since I'm going to pre-order it with Christmas money (Or get it with Christmas money if it comes out before then).

I believe for the 1st time in history, Nintendo will sell a current-gen handheld for more than they're selling their current-gen console.

Well calling the Wii current-gen at the time that the 3DS is released (as it will mark the beginning of the 8th-gen) is kinda silly, but besides that, your sentence doesn't have much of an impact. Nintendo has only been in the business for like...40 years...that's not much of history xD.

I have plenty of cold cash set aside for the 3DS, and I'll pay whatever Nintendo asks. I'm going out on a limb, but I'll go ahead and predict a price of $229.99 right now. Nintendo knows that consumers will scoff at $250, but remember that the DS Lite costs $129.99, and it only makes sense that they would reach somewhere between the original cost of the Wii, and it's current price point. I mean, look at the fact that the 3DS has better graphics than the Wii, and it contains more technology and hardware to boot. I'll buy it, and buy games long until flashcarts become available.

I've spent most of my life realizing that gaming is an expensive hobby. I have 35 DS games, and even though flashcarts came along, I refuse to sell my collection. Flashcarts have become a great way of testing games, but sometimes I feel bad when I don't buy a game because it's conveniently available on my SuperCard (Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Bullshit, etc.)

I'm a GBAtemper, like you, but I almost hope that Nintendo combats the anit-piracy that plagued the current DS models. Honestly, everythihg I pirated was crap that I wouldn't have bought anyways, and for the few games that were great, I felt guilty for not buying in the first place. I have no problem paying good money for games that are worthwhile, I do it on Xbox 360 and PS3. If the 3DS delivers a great experience, then I'll gladly throw my money at it.

But if flashcarts become available at some point, I'll join the ranks of you again, and probably continue where I left off It's hard when things seem free, but then again, is anything in life really free? (Hint: No, it's not, and never will be).

I would be surprised if it were less than $350 on release, so I agree it will be in that ballpark, if not more. This is Au$tralia after all

I am curious to buy it but won't pay a cent over 250 Australian dollars so I will wait a year or so for the usual price drop after demand has died down (and more games and colours and bundles are released).

I have more than enough games to keep me busy on the DS. A Playstation 3 is $499 here, so $350 for a DS is ridiculous, IMO (I know they are different products with different priced games but they both provide entertainment...)

I am really eager to see 3D gaming, though! I am not too excited Nintendo will release a more comfortable design just looking at what they released at E3 though (things could change but I doubt they will change too much...)

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
