Hello Guys!

Today a friend asked me to mod his Wii, I said no problem.

But now he asked me also what would happen if his Wii stops working (not because of Homebrew, or maybe too?)

I made two scenarios:

1. Light Problems (DVD-Drive stops working...) -> HBC access is ok
-----> How would I remove Homebrew to leave no traces, also in case they use the new "Check Disk for Pre-Repair Process"

2. Big Problems (BT-Module broken / Full Brick) -> No Access
-----> Are they able to Check the system for Homebrew also in case of a fully bricked Wii? I´ve read here that they were able to do this (or was his Wii not even Fully Bricked -> SaveMiiFrii worked) and that NoE maybe does not do this check, maybe it was just luck that they didn´t used it?

I just want to give him the right answer, not that he´ll be standing with a 200€ bill in front of me and asking what to do

I would be very glad if someone could help me.

If you have scenario #1...you have 2 options:

* Fix it yourself. Pretty much all parts but the motherboard are replaceable by anyone with basic mechanical skills and patience. These parts include wi-fi module, Bluetooth module, DVD drive, and the case. Replacement parts are widely available online.

* You can make a bootmii backup, then use Comex NAND formatter, then officially update the wii. Note though that the comex formatter is prone to freezing/bricking. If it bricks during use, see scenario #2.

If #2 is the issue, just send it in. The check disk runs from the recovery menu. If the SM won't start at least to the recovery menu, there's no chance of them running the disc.

So I have now some answers for him.

Thats great.

I think he wants to get it repaired by the warranty, so I´ll not open the console.
So if he wants a new disc drive, simply uninstall "SysMenu+IOS" and they will not be able to check?
I would try to run comex formatter, if it works, great, if not, they´ll find also nothing. (Is this a Win=Win Situation?)

There is a proper way to run the nand formatter where it will not lock up and brick. Basically u need to only use the needed files and no extras. On the github page for the formatter it tells you what IOS's and files are needed, use those and only those. Then you have to throw in some game discs, preferably a game that does online play and allow it to update your wii and then you can do an online update and then send it in to nintendo.

I found somewhere a complete Guide how to use it. (Including precompiled Files and IOS)

But there are several Versions. One is on first Page (aka v1.1) and one on Page 8 (aka v2.0).
The most recent doesn´t say if it is EUR or US, do you think I can use that with the IOS listened on GitHub?
This Versions seem to have the advantage to backup and restore the real Serial Number, not a fake one.

I also got an Version compiled by Pune (Source from Github)

Which one could I (should I in case) use.

Just want to be prepared.

But I don´t know if it´s ok to use the NAND Formatter by Pune on a EUR Wii.

Since it uses System Menu for USA according to the readme.

the one that pune compiled is safe to use because it extracts the setting.txt file before the format and then puts it back in place after the format.

Cool, but does the Formatter require special naming of the Files? (Could I simply replace US SysMenu with the EUR one? I only got the .elf, no readme)

BTW The Formatter thingy sounds good, maybe I´ll try it on my Wii [secured by BootMii as boot2].
