Ok we got a GBA emulator that doesn't work well.Yeah, because obviously 80% compatibility means it doesn't work well. Have you seen SNemulDS's compatibility list? (It has about 50-60% compatibility)

Now we have a PDF reader that doesn't work.Since when is a 30sec to 1min wait 'not working'? You can't expect the first version of a PDF reader to be optimized for EVERY SINGLE PDF FILE.

Next will we get a movie player that's all half assed?
Trust me, it won't be half-assed. The iPlayer's movie player isn't half-assed, and they'll probably port it to the DSTWO just like what they did with the GBA emulator.QUOTE(Pliskron @ Jul 9 2010, 12:33 PM)
I don't see why SC doesn't concentrate on getting one feature right before moving on to the next. Instead we get a ton of half baked features that they may never fix.
It's because everyone's so impatient, so they're just trying to meet the demand by releasing it sooner (even though it's mostly half-assed).

^ Totally agree with that

Look at one of the most popular Homebrew ever made - Moonshell

THAT went through 2 major code overhauls, with Version 2 going through 32 different releases...
... and it STILL has some 'quirks' to it which will never get fix

& there's people expecting the first early versions of the various DS2 software etc to work first time ???
Come on - give the Supercard Team a break... Please

On a side note though - I wonder what IS the difference between the DSTwo '*.plg' files and the normal '*.nds' plugins ??
Compression,Encryption, Different loaders - or possibly 'plg' files use DSTwo processor while 'nds' use DS processor ??

Guess we won't know until the SDK comes out

Not a complaint here but an observation. The Vertical Layout (when using anything other than PDFs) in iReader is only able to use the lower screen for a page unlike with DSLibris which can use both upper and lower screens for for left and right hand pages. Also the horizontal layout only uses the lower screen instead of scrolling between both screens currently.

Edit: nvm I didn't realize they hid the settin in the screen display calling it double screens.

it works alright, it's just that it takes a while to turn a page, i find if you use small pdf files it loads it ok.
Hm...wondered about that, but I couldn't find anything to resize all the images in a PDF at once (that was definitely free).

Why does every single friggin plugin sc team makes have the brightness on lv3.
I'm not one of those fullbrightness 1hr battery life people dammit.

I would rather play it on lv1 brightness with no sound so that I could play a day or two (or more) without recharging the stupid thing.

About how long does it take each page to load?

Depends - on a 450k text only (with plain picture background) it takes about 25 second to go from page to page.
A 1.5M picture and text pdf takes about 45 secs, and a full 4M picture only (I mean, the text IS the picture) takes so long I gave up and killed it.

I'm pretty sure I saw a option to change the brightness somewhere in the iReader (didn't pay too much attention as I use a DSi).

Oh, that's a shame. I have PDFs that get to about 200 MB point, so it'd be close to impossible to read them I suppose.

Just tested this with a novel in PDF format. It wouldn't be practical reading the book using iReader. The page turning is sluggish and also there are problems with the text itself such as missing letters and lines overlapping each other.

I may be being stupid but I couldn't find the settings or any bookmark functions. That's probably just me though!

(EDIT: Found all the settings and options - including bookmarks. These only seem to be available for plain text files and not PDFs. The plain text support seems far more functional than the PDF stuff. However some characters, apostrophes in particular, are displayed as what look like Chinese symbols. Moonshell displays the same .txt files perfectly).

Apologies for bumping this but has anyone found a way to solve the character problems. Capital Ts and apostrophes are displayed as what look like Chinese characters to me. Makes it pretty annoying to use for ebooks.

Cheers.

You can try something risky. Edit the fonts.zip file and remove all the GBKxx files. GBK is a Chinese encoding protocol so it's probably that the text rendering is using the Chinese font rather than the ascii one. 'Perhaps' by removing the GBK font it will default to ASC and then you won't get the weird characters. Or it could crash horribly as well

I discovered tonight that .txt files with UTF-8 encoding don't seem to have the problem with Chinese characters showing up. I opened the .txt file I was having problems with in notepad and saved a new version with UTF-8. That one is nice and readable in iReader on DSTWO.
