<i>Hello, have you ever been mad because you can't hack your wii? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/hate2.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hateit:" border="0" alt="hate2.gif" /> Never been able to find any good guides? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":unsure:" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" /> Then this guide will help. All my friends wanted to know how to hack a Wii so I made this tutorial for the newbies who can't or have problems hacking their Wii. I hope there steps help you become an advanced Wii hacker!</i> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yaywii.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yaywii:" border="0" alt="yaywii.gif" />

<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":blink:" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> Things you may need to know:</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<i>• System Menu — The Wii’s “operating system”, though it really isn’t an operating system per se. The System Menu is the GUI where you can access all of the different channels on your console, including the Disc Channel and the Wii Shop Channel.
• Virgin Wii — A Wii that has never been hacked or tweaked in any unofficial way.
• IOS — Probably stands for Input/Output System. You can think of an IOS as a mix between a patch, a driver, and a plug-in. There are dozens of them already installed on your Wii. They are identified by their number (ie, IOS31 or IOS60), and they all serve a unique specialized function. For example, IOS53 enables the Nintendo 64 expansion pack, and this IOS is required to be installed to run the Virtual Console version of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
• cIOS — Stands for Custom Input/Output System. This is a custom IOS that has been developed by a hacker, and is essential to running a lot of homebrew software on your Wii. When you install a cIOS, it typically installs itself on the Wii as IOS249, well outside of the range Nintendo uses for releasing patches and updates. Coincidentally, one of the first things that Nintendo’s repair guys check for on bricked consoles sent in is if IOS249 is installed. If it is, they void your warranty.
• cIOSCORP — I have no clue what the -CORP suffix stands for (nor why we need such elaborate abbreviations), but what cIOSCORP does is simple: it allows you to load backed up Wii and Gamecube games from the Wii’s disc channel instead of having to use a custom loader. cIOSCORP is really a massive massive patch that turns every IOS on your Wii into a cIOS. This a very complex procedure, but fortunately we have a simple installer that will do all of the work for us.
• mIOS — The mIOS is a special IOS that runs automatically when a Gamecube game is loaded. Think of it as your Wii’s “Gamecube driver.” At some point in the guide, I will have you install a custom mIOS so your Wii will be capable of loading backed up Gamecube games.
• .wad — WAD files are kind of like a .zip file or .rar file for the Wii. These files install some kind of content onto your console, which could be anything from a custom IOS to a Virtual Console game.
• Homebrew Channel — A custom channel that you will install that enables you to launch homebrew applications, such as the WAD Installer.</i>

<i>• You will be able to play any backed up Wii game from a copied DVD-R, USB drive, or SD/SDHC card.
• You will be able to play any backed up Gamecube game from a copied DVD-R.
• You will be able to install any WiiWare or Virtual Console release for free.
• You’ll be able to play imported games from other regions.
• You will be able to run homebrew software, such as emulators, to play classic games for systems that the Virtual Console doesn’t even support like the GameBoy Advance.
• It’s free — most of the things you will need are common household accessories. You don’t have to spend money on a modchip and then worry about trying to install the thing.</i>

<i>Unless each step is followed perfectly, you will likely kill, or brick your console. After the process is over, if you make some sort of mistake like doing a firmware update, you run the risk of bricking your console.</i>

<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yaywii.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":yaywii:" border="0" alt="yaywii.gif" /> Requirements:</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<i>• A Wii.
• An SD Card (SDHC Cards will work with wii menu version 4.1 or higher)
• An SD/SDHC Card Reader.
• A computer</i>

<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lecture.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":teach:" border="0" alt="lecture.gif" /> Step One, Getting Ready:</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<i>OK, first of all we need bannerbomb. Go to <a href="http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/" target="_blank">http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/</a> and select your Wii menu version. If you do not know your Wii menu version go to options (the little picture with tools on the wii menu)> settings. You will see your Wii menu version at the upper right corner. Once you have selected your Wii menu version Download the bannerbomb thing on step two on their website that is abd6a_v200.zip for 4.2 and aad1f_v108.zip for 4.1 and below. Once you have downloaded the appropiate bannerbomb for your wii put the "aktn" folder in private> wii> title. If you don't have those folder(s) make the folder(s). Once you have put it in the "title" folder you need to get the HackMii Installer. If you do not bannerbomb will be totally useless. Download the HackMii Installer at <a href="http://bootmii.org/download" target="_blank">http://bootmii.org/download</a> Once you have done that open the folder you have downloaded take the boot.dol/boot.elf and put it on the root of your SD Card. Don't worry if its an .elf file or a .dol file. If one of them don't work try the other. Once you have done that Go to the SD Card menu (for Wii menu version 4.1 or up) or go to options> settings> Channels> SD Card. Then you will get a message that looks like this:</i>
<img src="http://r3dux.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/WiiHack1.JPG" border="0" class="linked-image" />

<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lecture.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":teach:" border="0" alt="lecture.gif" /> Step Two, The Installer:</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<i>Once the message has popped up press OK. It will take you to the installer. Once you are in the installer you have three options:
1. Install the Homebrew Channel
2. Install DVDX
3. Install BootMii
If you do not want you Wii to get bricked (just in case) install BootMii. If you want to play DVD backups install DVDX. Also if you want to hack your wii install the Homebrew Channel. Once you have installed everything you need you are ready for step Three.</i>

<!--sizeo:2--><span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo--><b> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/lecture.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":teach:" border="0" alt="lecture.gif" /> Step Three, The Homebrew Channel:</b><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec-->
<i>Ok, once you have downloaded the Homebrew Channel we need to get some apps for the Homebrew Channel. If you haven't created a folder named "apps" create it now. You can download the Homebrew Browser at <a href="http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps/Homebrew_Browser" target="_blank">http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps/Homebrew_Browser</a> The Homebrew Browser allows you to download apps such as Demos, Emulators, Games, Media, and even Utilities. </i>

<i>Q: After I softmod my Wii, will I be able to play online or use WiiConnect24?
A: Yes. Online play has absolutely no problems, and Nintendo can’t force you to update your firmware with WiiConnect24 — it’s optional.

Q: Will the Wii Shop channel and the games in it still work?
A: Yes, it may ask you to update and I HIGHLY ask you to NOT do.

Q: Will I still be able to update to the latest firmware?
A: Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it through ordinary means. You will have to use a special homebrew updater developed by Waninkoko which will stop Nintendo from overwriting all of your hacks and tweaks, possibly bricking your console in the process.

Q: I’ve already tried to do some Hacking work to my Wii with little success. Will I still be able to follow your guide?
A: Probably. I will provide a method to make your Wii a virgin again and remove most, if not all, of the hacks you have on it, but you’ll be doing that method at your own risk.

Q: I’ve updated my Wii to the latest firmware, 4.2. Will I still be able to follow your guide?
A: Yes.

Q: Do I absolutely have to have an SD card to hack my Wii, or can I do it with only a USB drive?
A: You will absolutely need an SD card because of the way that the Bannerbomb exploit works.</i>

Too simple. Not enough details... and not really needed. Also, just throwing in the PimpMyWii and IOS replacing/installing stuff is bad. And no real brick warning or explanation of how bootmii works and could save someone.

It seems that you wanted to help, and you proper credited. That's good.

But then again, it's just to simple, and we already have two guides which are nearly perfect. I'm sorry, but you're are too late. It's better that all the noobs gather in one topic that in more...for this reason, closing this would probably a good idea (though, again, I appreciate your effort though).

so I made this blog for the newbies
Seems like he googled it and directly copied it because this isnt a blog.
LOL sorry for doing that. It was my blog though. FIXED!
If you want to visit it the link is http://wiihacking101.blogspot.com/
We still have enough tutorials. Also, you didn't tell us about the risks.. Also, IOS doesnt improve, because fixing/replacing IOS doesn't make the wii faster.

Broken doesn't mean bricked. You didn't tell us about priiloader, about how bootmii must be installed (a little), about our warranty etc. Also this steps WON'T make us advanced wii hackers - just the people who use the software... - we wont be Team Twiizers with this tut, because we need devkitppc. DVDx also doesnt allow us to play DVD backups, you didnt tell us about D3-2/D4, homebrew channel DUH :@

i have a Wii on 2.0 and bannerbomb doesnt come up tried every zip
though im not that dumb.
but this guide will be sabotaged next wii update when bannerbomb v2 gets blocked again. Then there is only one way left for bannerbomb and that is savedata banner stack smash stuff. when thats sabotaged we will need IndiePwns in Europe unless comex releases StackSmash so we can make an unpatchable hack for the PAL Wii's (unless nintendo creates a wii with hypervisor, or a new disc image of SSBB, just like Microsoft)

Even if you say you're going to update it, you should at least put something meaningful in the post to start with. I said that I would update my guide too when i first posted it, but that didn't mean it wasn't already 13 pages worth of single spaced not formatted size 11 font text to begin with.

And any suggestions we make for you to update this will essentially just turn it into the simplistic mod in the stickies, and there's not really any reason to have two of those around on the same site. If you want to update your blog guide, take note from what is done in the modify any wii 4.2 and below guide.

Guys , give him a break , he was only trying to help out.

Im quite impressed that people are still writing how to guides on this - i got flooded with thanks and questions when i first wrote my simple how to guide on the original loader.

If people find it too hard then they can look up another guide. I do however agree that warnings should be placed on all guides because some people shouldnt even own a wii not to mind try to hack it.

Good job wiihacks101

Hey, I made this guide 10x better now!!!

Well the changes in your guide still don't change the fact that what you do in your guide will NOT let you do 4/6 of the advantages to hacking you list because all you say how to do is install the homebrew channel.

"If you want to play DVD backups install DVDX."

Change that as well. dvdx is not what you need to play backups. a cIOS is what you need. Personally I don't really see much use in dvdx at all if you are going to install cIOS's as in xzxero's guide. AFAIK having Hermes cIOS installed to IOS202 as it is in the guide should pretty much cover any functionality dvdx would, but I could be wrong on that. It's definitely something that is optional though.

Also the latest firmware is 4.2 not 4.1 in your faq.

how can you play backups with this guide if it doesn't cover cIOS installation?

all it does is install hbc.

edit: love the italics tho!
