Hey guys, sorry in advance, I'm not terribly good with hacking my Wii!

Over the years I've followed a few guides, mainly to get the more recent games running, and also to get Wiiware/VC games to install and run, both from my SD card and the Home Menu. I wasn't smart enough to keep track of what IOS's I installed, nor what guides I followed, I again apologize.

To the point now, I've noticed with a few VC/Wiiware games (run on both SD and Wii Home), retail, and backup games (run through USB Loader GX), that gameplay is sometimes laggy. From games such as Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers, and even Metal Slug 2. The lag is sometimes unbearable, generally when a lot is happening on screen.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance!

Will do! Does the Cios have anything to do with Wiiware/VC games? (Sorry, I don't mean to question you, I'm just trying to learn more

I ran one not too long ago, though. Most of the games which are laggy are quite old.

That's what I did, the 2nd poster suggested cIOSx 19, and I installed it with base as 57.

Already using a CRT television, and the lag is persistant on other TVs. Keep the ideas coming!

Maybe your GPU is giving up? If its an old wii i heard that you get can graphical anomolies perhaps this lag is first sign of it?

That may be the case, yeah...although, it's strange. Games like Monster Hunter, Super Mario Galaxy 2, etc...they don't lag at all. Odd. After some research I've noticed that IOS and cIOS's don't relate to lag, just whether a game will work or not at all. Maybe my Wii is dying. Shame, because I don't know how to remove the modchip and virgin-ize my Wii for warranty.

Completely off topic, but I want to ask a quick question and save making another topic...if I chose to purchase another Wii, and softmod it (my current Wii has a modchip), is there any disadvantage in terms of playing off a USB Harddrive? Like, performance?

Oh and USB loaders are much faster than even retail discs.
Faster, even with a softmod done? So, in effect, modchips are useless if you use a USB Loader?

Is it difficult to open the Wii up to dust it out?

I wouldn't say they are useless, but I prefer the softmod route.

It's just a guess and you need a special screwdriver to open up your Wii so I'd wait to see if anyone else thinks it's feasible before bothering.

Another idea, seeing as your using a modchip try running the game through the disc channel or using GeckoOS. It might be the chip interfering with the cIOS somehow.

That's true, I'll try GeckoOS, good idea! And yeah, you need the Tri-Wing Screwdriver or something, I think? But I'll leave that until later.

if ur running games from an sd card the card is prolly heating up to much or its a slow sd card
Games are laggy when running from the Wii Home Channel too, as well as retail games running from the Disc Channel.

Metal Slug 2 is a laggy game anyway. That's why they created Metal Slug X..it addresses the lag issues in part 2.
Interesting. I'll try Metal Slug X and see if I get similar lag.
