Hi all I'm a bit new to this, have tried to get games running of a WD WBFS-partitioned HDD with a number of loaders on a 3.2E Wii. The drive is recognised as well as the games on it, when I go to load them I hear the HDD click into gear trying to load them but the screen either goes black or doesn't swtich to the game (depending on the loader). Anyone have any idea what could be wrong? Could it be the 3.2E thing? If so how would I update to a better version? Thanks.

Is this a self powered drive.

Maybe it doesnt get enough power from the Wii?

Do you have a dual head cable you could try, that is, a cable with 2 heads you can plug into the Wii's 2 usb ports. This gives more power to the drive.

If its externally powered, maybe try another USB Cable.

Maybe you need to use the right ios the specific game, or even maybe you need to update your cios to rev 19.

Depends on what games your trying to run, I'm sure you could help yourself if you mentioned some.

It is a self powered hdd, a WD Elements 1.5tb with a 300gb WBFS partition (that it recognises fine).

In terms of games I'm trying to run, just what I've got on the HDD at the moment- Zelda, Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros, one or two more, and it does the same for each.

Anyway thanks for the tips, I'll give it another try, if anyone else has any other ideas what it could be please let me know.

The system menu doesn't matter, i still have 3.2 and everything works. Also IOS do not matter for 99% of games, there's just one Rugby game that requires you to have the correct IOS installed(but it's not used...).

What exactly do you get in NeoGamma? Does it get a read error, freezes within NeoGamma or freezes after NeoGamma? (i'm asking about NeoGamma, because i don't know the error handling of the other loaders)

Ok so after a bit more trying around I've gotten them to work fine off a USB stick, but the HDD still doesn't want to work so that's obviously where the problem is. With that in mind, is there anything I could do to get it working? I looked at a compatibility list and the WD 1.5tb I'm using is supposed to work (though it said it was tested on a 4.1E system, if that makes a difference which I doubt it would). I guess the dual head USB thing CSI mentioned might be worth a shot, if I can find one.

WiiPower - in NeoGamma it doesn't seem to properly register the HDD, in all the other programs it does. It gives the option to mount the drive, I click and it does nothing. On USB stick it works fine though.

300gb WBFS thats useing Fat32 or NTFS before you formatted if its NTFS it will show games but wont play them

Would have been NTFS I guess, so I reformat with Fat32 then WBFS? Might give that a shot.

Ok just a quick update (this is more for other newbie's who may find themselves in the same situation). I tried to get the WBFS thing working for a while (formatted to fat32 then wbfs again) and tried a bunch of other stuff but the games just wouldn't run. In the end I left it on fat32, followed the instructions on this site to install hermes v4, and it works like a charm now. Not sure why the USB stick I had worked fine with WBFS and the HDD doesn't, but it works in some form now and that's all that matters.
