No, you didn't understand me, I don't want to launch the game through disk channel, I want to see the picture of the game there because I see nothing, like no game mounted there.

without darkcorp or mod chip, u can't see the banner of w/e disc u have inserted in the wii from the disc channel

This is really strange because my Wii is not hardmodded and I haven't installed Darkcorp and I see the picture of every game I mount in the disk channel (backup or original). Om my friend's Wii I see only the original ones.

If your system menu IOS is patched, you see the images, else you don't
DARKCORP patches every system menu IOS, so that explains that

So that's the problem. But I have installed that system menu patched wad from latest version of Nus Autodownloader before updating the wii offline with Nus, I even installed again after the update, still no image in disk channel. It might be a bad patched system menu wad? If so, where do I find one tested for 4.2 E? Thank you for your support by the way.

not true, i just double checked because I thought I was mistaken, but i have a patched IOS70 on 4.2U wii and I can't see banners of backup discs in the disc channel (tried patched IOS70 from NUSAD and the one included in this guide)

However, i also confirmed that this method works:
to just SEE the banners of backup disc games in the disc channel, go to the priiloader settings, and tell it use IOS249 for the system menu IOS (cios 249 must be installed)

as i said earlier, if u want to actually play backup discs from the disc channel u need to install darkcorp

edit: it works in darkcorp without changing the system menu IOS to 249 because DarkCorp includes a different kind of patched IOS70 (= IOS60 v6174 with rev13 DIP + ES_Identify Patch)

Maybe your wii is broken then

There might be something else that's needed then, but you definitely don't need DARKCORP to see the banners

Or patch your games to use IOS249, and set priiloader to use IOS249

But I see the disk banners without priiloader installed, are you sure that isn't a problem with that system menu patched wad?

lol, nah my wii isn't broken, and neither is the other 3 or 4 I've confirmed this on

check out the edit in my last post, but basically i think it all comes down to how the system menu IOS is patched. The darkcorp IOS70 = IOS60 v6174 with rev13 DIP + ES_Identify Patch

but the simplistic mod and nus auto downloader just patches the system menu IOS with ES, FS and NP patched

to be honest, i think what u want to do is pointless... why do u want to see what game is in the wii from the disc channel if u can't load it? So u can know what disc is inserted then start neogamma?

Most people either want to play from disc channel, or not. u r choosing the middle ground option... very weird if u ask me.

anyways, to get this accomplished, there are 2 ways (afaik)
1) get the IOS70 from darkcorp and install it, or IOS60 if u are on 4.1 or 4.0
2) install priiloader and cIOS249, and change priiloader settings to use IOS249 to launch the system menu

fyi, if u don't have bootmii as boot2 (but only as IOS), u should REALLY install priiloader for brick protection, if u have bootmii as boot2, it is optional

Thank you, I'll get that IOS from Darkcorp because I need to see what disk is in the drive. And by the way, Darkorp doesn't work on all games because there are games (Trauma Team for example) that can't be forced on pal 50 (that's my Pal Wii system setting) and those games don't work with Darkcorp. But soon I'll buy WD My Passport Essential and I'll say bye bye disc loading :-)

that's what the region free hack in priiloader is for.

and yeah you do need a cIOS patched system menu IOS to see game banners.

if the other IOSs aren't patched, say hello to the 002 error for me

Yep, you are right! But with the IOS 70 patched wad from Nus Auto Downloader I can't see game banner so I was looking for an alternative. I saw that Drakorp doesn't have IOS 70, it uses IOS 60 patched and installs it as IOS 70, so I have a difficulty in finding a good IOS 70 patched wad to see the game banners.

@mayu, the one from darkcorp is safe to install even though its just IOS60 patched and installs to slot 70

wanin's ciosx installer can use IOS60 or 70 as a base wad. I haven't tested this, but i think if u were to install cIOS249 rev19 using IOS70 as a base, then u bluedump it and pack IOS249 into a wad, then on your pc using showmiiwads (or another tool) change the slot to 70 and install it on your wii using wad manager. It should work... but make sure u have brick protection in place because, as I said earlier, I haven't tested this, but in theory it should work fine. (note, u should be able to do the same using IOS60 if your SM IOS is IOS60... ie. for 4.0 and 4.1 wii's)

yeah, the cIOS part is what enables the banner to be read. thats why when the system menu IOS is set IOS 249, you can see the banner.
hermes IOS are not primarly made for disc loading, so the banner cant be seen, but can be used in backup loaders.

the patched IOS70 in the guide isn't a cIOS, so it can't read banners.
DARKCORP is a collection of cIOS that patches all the original IOS and can read banners from any system menu and play most if not all games.

Last time I did any soft-mod was around May 2009. I started as noob but was able to do what I wanted--to play Wii games from backup DVDs. Also at the time the USB loader was the cutting edge so the last thing I managed to do was to load our popular games from a 16G USB key.

Fast forward to today, I noticed this forum is lot neater--only 3 stickies at the top. So instead of asking in a separate topic, I just want to get some general direction. Sorry for being a noob again.

My system version is 3.2. I have the HBC installed through the twilight hack, and am using cIOS_36_rev10. I should have also bannerbomb installed. Right now my Wii can't play store-bought new games, such as Wii-fit-Plus. I think it may have something to do with the update/brick prevention in the softmod.

So really the main question is, is following the guide on this thread going to be the right solution to update my Wii and maintain the soft-mod functions such as play games off a USB key (or HD)?
