Well MapleStory DS was just dumped.

As far as existing title go you're pretty much stuck with Castlevania.

Hehehe, funny you should mention something like this. I made a project like this for my computer science class a few years back (you can pretty much blame this project alone as to why I stopped writing programs...) Naturally, it wasn't for the DS, and it was only half finished by the time the course ended, but it was still a pretty neat idea. Gain experience by killing enemies mario-style, invest points into how high you can jump, the strength of your jump attacks, running speed, etc.

It all sounds so good in my head...and then I get frustrated, lazy, and bored working with it.

Sounds like a hybrid of Mario and Luigi right there...

Umm...not sure what you mean by that? A hybrid of Mario and Luigi would be...an italian plumber of medium-large height in a brown suit?

Or do you mean the game series
rolleyes.gif
? Then a hybrid of it and what?

But yeah, like those games but with no separate battle system (like super paper mario)

If Castlevania is considered an RPG, then Halo and Gran Turismo should be considered ones too.

Because you "roleplay" Master chief and Speed Racer's older brother, Racer X, in a "game"

In Castlevania you gain levels that improve your skills, collect items such as armor and weapons or boosts like potions, and generally your character improves in stats and equipment as you progress. That sounds like a RPG to me. An ARPG/platformer hybrid is the most appropriate title. And yes, this usually only applies to the later Castlevanias.

Additional argument: You play as Master Chief or "roleplay"

I don't think that's really a reasonable argument concerning Castlevaina does have the RPG elements when Halo is just a First-Person shooter through and through

I Think he is looking for something like the sega master system classic Wonder Boy in Monsterland. You earn coins to buy better boots (jump higher) and shields and by the points have the hart count. I have just been playing this with the S8DS emulator.

And you aren't cute at all. Maybe trollish cute.

Agreed. He/she's arguing a moot point, really. In all of the Castlevania games for DS you have stats that get increased, different equipment, armor, "spells," and when you level up you gain additional HP and mana...it has enough RPG elements to fall comfortably into the RPG category, though Iga considers it an action-adventure.

In any case, sidetracking the thread with one person's off-topic ranting has all the characteristics of trolling.

Right now Castlevania is about as close to what the TC seems to be looking for, at least in English.

Play them, enjoy them, and then pray for a Maple Story DS localization/fan translation.
