Hacking ORDERED AN IEDGE CARD..TURNED OUT TO BE FAKE!

Yep I failed quite hard on this one, looking now it seems smack-you-round-the-face obvious they are not a good place to order

has been a while since I checked out the 'scene' so some of the obvious signs were lost on me completly ^^ Also does nt help they were recently featured on a popular uk deals website with regards to the acekard, which I saw and thought they must be legit. Later when I posted a reply warning people against ordering from r4i I got my account banned for spamming

Still, hopefully it will get sorted out and we can move on and put it down to experience. Ive ordered a new iedge from gbatemp, as soon as it arrives ill be putting a preorder on the scds2

If this darn volcano stops farting gas into the air that is ^^

Take a step back and think about what you have purchased.. a "grey market" device which allows homebrew and retail game code to be played on a DS. Flashcarts are 100% legal, Nintendo lost a recent court case in France. It's how some people use them which is illegal, not the flashcarts themselves.

It's no different from a CD/DVD writer which almost every PC has, you can use them to burn copyrighted material.
It's no different from a Tape recorder...

QUOTEI understand you want to protect your consumer rights but doesn't this kind of device negate these very rights, due to its "dodgy" nature. By pursuing this legal avenue, you could be opening a whole can of worms for yourself. Remember these people have your address... think about it..

A business selling these are going to be in 10 times the amount of trouble as a customer buying them because 1) they have money 2) they sell them for profit.

Thanks for all the info all, I have the same problem as most of you except my fake iedge took exactly 1 month to get to me, I ordered it when r4i.co.uk was having a sale got an email a few days later claiming they had run out of stock so I would have to ait for more, gotta wonder ever they had a lot of complaints or alot of people have fake cards and dont no it, the card eventuall got sent out 5 days later and didnt arrive after alot of unhelpful emails I got one back saying a replacements cant be sent out till 15 days after the original dispatch date, it was already 16 days but they cant seem to count had to wait 17th day to avoid an arguement over the phone.

I have now recieved the replacement card I knew there was something wrong as soon as I opened it, Ive only seen pictures but the writing on the card looked a little to dull to me, I put it into my dsi and instantly knew there was a spring im sure I noticed online that the iedge has no spring mechanism, and the iedge icon that showed up on the dsi screen showed have had a game icon on it they are suppose to down unflashed, I just assumed they pre flashed it for me.

I then went about trying to update the boot strap but kept getting a error message about the OS files being missing, I already had the official ones on my pc so I tried those same problem so went online to youtube and looked at the process of flashing the card but ok seemed easy enough I was doing it right but didnt check for a flashing L.E.D oh wait mines missing, I then went to the R4i.co.uk website and got the OS from there after which the card started and I got a message on the top screen showing me the link to http://www.edgei-ds.cn/ the fake site.

I have since contacted them over the phone was treated very rudely am told that no flash cards have official websites anymore nintendo shut them all down and am also told that my research on that is wrong and she was basically implying that im an idiot without actually saying the words, she also stated that there were two colours of the cards both come from the same company and factory in china and she conveniently had them both infront of her, I wonder does she have all the stock infront of her incase of calls like mine.

I was instructed not to get the firmware from the address on the box but to get it from R4i.co.uk, I believe that the person was the same one I spoke to when both 4 previous times I called in for help about the original miss iedge card which I believe is abit weird so am left wondering are they working in a small office with one phone with boxes of fake flash cards scattered all over the floors.

During the call about the card being fake the woman explained I could send the card in to be tested to see if its faulty apparently she has them both and they work fine, my arguement aint if the card works its that its a fake.

My call didnt end in the best of ways I explained that she has been trained to lie and she said she is going to end the call now so I hung up the phone on her, I was quite annoyed I had to wait a month for a fake card.

After reader all the posts on here about this issue I have now in the process of a dispute over Paypal I original ordered the iEdge because of the bootscrap method of flashing it means it should be compatible with any firmware upgrades nintendo ever do for the DSi and im not excepting a fake.

I got another edge card at the weekend. Hallelujah a real one!! Got it from www.consolemax.co.uk I emailed them beforehand and got a very quick response from a chap who said he knew all about the fake site and software and they screened their deliveries to make sure they did not sell any fakes.

Mine was white, with an LED and it works beautifully.

Differences between the 2 in the end:

Real card GUI is so much nicer

Real card you can download skins

Real card is much better build quality

However....

Both cards seem to play all the ROMs I have thrown at them except Bowsers inside story (random freezing as the forum says!)

I am going to stick with both for the time being. I will let you know as software updates.

The cards are not quite the same the main difference for me is the fact the real Iedge cart can be flashed with a new bootstrap to combat against future DSi and DSiXL updates its been awhile since the last firmware upgrade and v1.5 will likely disable the cards like v1.4 did obviously I cant say for sure no info has yet been released but we all know its coming the fake Iedge could be permanently disabled on all upgraded DSi systems at which point we would have to invest into yet another card while the official Iedge may come up with a new bootstrap software which could work in a matter or hour or days no extra cost to us.

lol , however paypal don't care about not as described items if bought on private website.
it's easier maybe if you call your credit card compay and ask a chargeback, so this seller will lost money and chargeback fees too ! 10/15 $ lost again

It took a few days but I got an email response from R4i.co.uk, take a look at what they said.

Please can you confirm where the ‘REAL’ company as you wish you call it have bought there iEdge cards from? I can confirm that they are purchased from a company in China, this company sells white and black iEdge cards, both cards work the same, if they work any different please can you tell me how they do as I would be very interested? We sell both the white and the black iEdge cards and both were perfectly and both are purchased from the same company in China, the same place the ‘REAL’ iEdge company buy them from. I can assure you this card is not fake, if this card was fake, then FAKE CARD would appear when you inserted the iEdge card into the DSi. If your card is not working then we can help you to get this working as the card is not faulty. If you think this card is faulty, please send this back to us via the returns form below we can test it once we have received it back, if the card is faulty then we can refund for this ( but cannot refund with a PayPal dispute open)if the item is found to work perfectly then it will be sent back to you with the software on for you. (Paypal disputes must also be closed for this also to happen) Please also be advised that 99% of all cards returned to us as faulty, are found to be in perfect working order when tested.

I can confirm that yes we have the stock here in Jersey.

I dont recall telling them the card dont work, what I said was it was fake and as for closing the dispute so they can refund the card they must deal with a lot of stupid people if that usual works, looks like ill go through with the dispute just wanted to check something with you lot, I know the official Iedge card site states the card is legal because it doesnt ship with any sort of firmware and you got to install that yourself so was just wondering are cards such as the fake Iedge that was sent by R4i.co.uk illegal or are they just illegal once and if you add roms to them?

I dont know nor care were the official Iedge team get there cards from, the fact remains you are selling a clone/fake of the original one and a poor quality one at that. Im unsure weather your staff are just ignorant about the products you sell or are just all trained to lie about them either way all these fake products you are selling lost you customers and you have just lost another permanently not to mention your email is exactly the same as someone elses you sent and the same as that phone call I made before your staff decided she wanted to put down the phone have they said that so many times they are starting to believe it or memorize it.

Your card is missing Fully upgrade-able bootstrap to combat future DSi firmware updates which in this case can be flashed onto the card before it boots up although the site for the fake card states it has the same feature it diffinately doesnt its also missing the L.E.D and probably more features not to mention the horrid looking GUI on the cards you sell,I was adviced by your staff not to even go to the site and to get the updates from your site probably so I didnt relise it was fake and again would cost me money when I relised the card wouldnt work with a dsi upgrade when one comes out and have to purchase another.

The origial is also sent out with no firmware installed there by making it 100% legal im not to sure about legality of your cards at the moment im looking into that, I am also aware of a court trial in france were Nintendo tried to have all the official site for flash cards closed down and well as any sellers selling the products they lost the sites are all still up, A member of your staff very rudely told me Nintendo had forced them all to close and that there were no official sites for any of these cards anymore, more lies your not a very trust worthy company.

Im just left wondering why would fake card say on screen if the card was fake, its suppose to trick people into thinking its real you think they are going to program it to say fake card my point was it aint a fake card it aint faulty it aint an IEDGE card it was made to look like an IEDGE card.

They is no point sending it back to see if it boots up it will that doesnt make it an Iedge card.

makes me laugh they tried to get me to close my dispute.

I think it is good to use.
the main point is the movies(the DPG format)can play directly, moreover,it supports to display lyrics when play music.

No its a cheap fake that uses a firmware with just moonshell build in, that it.
By using this u will miss out on a lot stuff the real iEdge has. Alone for the support of new firmwares with fixes you should get a real iEdge. Not to mention all the other stuff u miss out.

Just a quick update regarding my refund from R4i.co.uk - I got it just a few days ago, in full. Took awhile but it got sorted. For e, case closed but for those wanting a genuine card, use the recommended suppliers on this site.

Congratz on your refund Joe2001, a polite email didnt work for me the moment they heard the word fake they got rude and very defensive both on the phone and via email they even tried to trick me into closing my paypal dispute claiming they cant do a refund till that is closed im about ready to exculate it but will wait a few days first to see if they give in.

As for those claiming a fake/clone card if fine, well its not I paid for a Iedge card but only recieved a cheap fake that has a Iedge sticker on it I ordered a Iedge from another site got it within two days and can instantly see the difference in quality I didnt ask for a clone I didnt pay for a clone not to mention the intrerface and the lack of bootstrap makes the one sold by R4i.co.uk inferior in every way.

We are not the only ones with this problem if you look online you will find a number of people who have purchased this card from the same site and are not happy about it and with so many complaints they must know they are selling fakes, a company that disonist can not be allowed profit from such disonist behaviour.

No one on this thread has complained or even mentioned the movie playback. They are selling fakes that are different to the product we ordered.

I hope anyone who has any joy getting a refund will keep us updated, I am still waiting for mine to arrive ..

, Joe2001 how long did the whole process take between you starting the dispute with R4i.co.uk and getting your refund was also wondering how many times they emailed you and if you had to can contact them before any of the messages they sent you, Its only been two days since the last message from them they havent replied to my last email yet they might later today but from how helpful they were being during my last message I think they are hoping I just forgetting about it.

About two weeks. Like I said on a previous post, I was polite & never use that live chat stuff. They were ok with me, dunno why, maybe coz Ive have quite a bit off stiff from them. Their e-mails to me were polite to a degree, but straight forward though reply times were about 2 - 3 days.

The fake Iedge was the 3rd product ive had from them, I didnt expect to be treated so rudely and lied to.

@friarhat, they gave me the option to send it back to be tested for faults they also said they tested both the white and black Iedge cards they have and both are the same and work the same meaning both are fake, they will likely test your card and say it works perfect but I wish you good luck on getting a refund hopefully they wont be as rude to you as they were to me.

Ive got a promise of a refund in an email and am returning under Distance selling law. I originally tried arguing the fact it was fake but like you was spoken to very rudely. Therefore ive made no mention of the fact its fake in emails just simply outlining my rights to cancel and that if they dont comply I will report them to trading standards. That seemed to do the trick, they have been fairly polite since my change of tactic

Another interesting thing I noticed when looking at what they sent me, the micro SD claimed class 4 on the packet but the logo on the card said class 2. Very dodgy ^^

anyway finger's crossed, touch wood etc.

The wait for my iedge from gbatemp shop is unbearable!
