Apple iPad Jailbroken 24 Hours After Launch

Nice that it has been jbed already for those 'lucky' enough to have one. It should help the iPhone/iPod Touch to keep current with hacks to the new OSes so it's also good news for those owners.
Now to digress and reply to OT posts...
The iPad is way too expensive for what you get in comparison to other portable computers (netbooks, laptops). There is only 256M of RAM and a 1G CPU. Their reasoning behind this is that users will only be running one app at a time (most often just because they are forced to by Apple's design). I'm don't know about others but I find it highly annoying to have to close apps and open another and repeat the process. There is a program to patch the system and allow jbed iPxs to keep apps running in the background but then you face the problem of limited RAM and slow speed. They could have uped the RAM and CPU for a few bucks more in manufacturing per unit but they just want a good bottom line like always. To put it in perspective you can get a loaded laptop with a 2.xG dual core CPU, 3G RAM, DVD burner, etc for the same price or even a hundred dollars cheaper or better specs than that depending on the brand and be able to do actual computing on it.
Also have you seen how awkward it is to type on? You really have to use the hunt and peck method or else contort your body so you are able to touch the virtual keys all the time keeping your hands hovering over the home row so you don't accidentally type in extra characters. To add to this emulation will be better in terms of speed and compatibility because of the increase in RAM and CPU power but will suck even more when it comes to controls. NES and GB/C are bad enough to control on the smaller iPhone screen because of the lack of any real feeling of the controls but imagine this coupled with the awkwardness of the much larger screen. A PSP is much better suited for emulation (despite a few SNES games that need speed hacks and/or frameskips).

NOVA sucks. Its so hard I got stuck in one off the places in the game and don't know where to go. Anyways my iPod Touch could barely emulate the GBA its so slow and some games don't even work like Golden Sun. Mario Tennis, etc.

The iPad itself, going a little off topic here, just doesn't seem worth it. It doesn't have enough features to be a netbook killer. It's too pricey to be an eBook reader killer. It's too bulky to be a media player killer. It's just a grey area of all the categories. In the end it seems to be a slightly more powerful iPhone or iPod Touch. I'm not too knowledgeable about more recent Apple products, but it's just my two cents.

Ah, this kind of makes me rethink its uselessness. Perhaps this would be a worthy investment after all.
i preordered te 16gb and im liking it. i was already a big fan of the iphone os so i knew i would like this. its a fun little toy for me . I am mostly using it as a internet browser and a comic reader and digital picture frame. Comic reading is pretty damn sweet with this using comic mobi i think. sure its a really weak computer running iphone os but everyone knew that before buying it. My mom and sister love it. Its also surpsingly easy to type on. i cant wait for the jailbreak to happen so we can get some cool homebrew apps like the iphone.
funny thing is i was a big time apple hater before my g/f got us iphones. i still hate their lockdown type model but you cant really beat their user interface.
the one thing i have to give them credit for us allowing us to transfer any epub file. not just ones you purchase from them,. this is something the kindle doesnt allow.

3.1.3 doesn't add much usefulness -- minor bug fixes and more anti-jailbreaking measures. As far as I have seen there aren't any apps that require 3.1.3 (or even 3.1.2 for that matter). So just use 3.1.2 JB.
