Don't get your hopes up. It will probably be over $200. The DSi/XL is already $170-190. Since this DS will have a 3D screen, and probably more features, the price will of course go up.

Anyways, any prototype screenshots of this thing yet? I really want to see it.
Yeah, it'll be $250+ at launch.

Hell, if leaked photos were out this topic would be 30+ pages!

They're supposed to have a playable demo sometime in June, according to a post on Kotaku. I look forward to seeing what they have to offer.

I was just thinking of getting a DSi, but now that this has been announced, I'll have to wait.

Nintendo is releasing a new handheld every year now....wtf??? I think they're really screwing themselves on that, they should've just stuck with the ds lite until the 3DS was ready to release.

The DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL weren't "new"... so nope, they're not doing that.

Nope. If you look at the GBA Releases part of GBAtemp, you'll notice that Rhythm Tengoku is #2467, while the latest is #2818.

actually yeah they were "new" they all had different designs and the dsi touted larger screens, a higher powered processor and more built in ram along with the cameras and the sd slot, where as the dsi XL touted larger screens than the dsi even

Hardly any software has ever come out that made use of the DSi's greater power, and none of that which did was ever a major release. If it's not being utilized, the enhanced abilities may well have never been included. The Lite, DSi and XL are all slight redesigns of 5+ year-old hardware. They're only released because there are still people out there who don't have a DS at all, and Nintendo wants to keep the price of their consoles relatively consistent. The cost of manufacturing the original DS Phat at this point would probably be so low that they wouldn't be able to charge more than $60 for it at retail.

The 3DS is a next-gen (eg. new) handheld. All the redesigns of the DS were re-releases of old hardware; so not new. Just updated. Nobody forced you to buy any of them, so don't complain.

LOL at that IGN article. I love it if people make graphics where "by miracle" one light ray goes to the left eye and another to the right eye. This is so bullshit it hurts. The basic question is "WHY?". Why should one light ray (which is indistinguishable from another light ray next to it) go "by miracle" to one eye only and not the other. It's basic physics that what one eye sees the other sees at the same time. That is unless you bend light left/right. But in this case you are "not view angle independent".

Lets not pretend that the DSi/XL are "new" consoles. They are just updates/upgrades, just like the DSlite. Just like the Gameboy Pocket and the Gameboy Color was to the Gameboy, just like the GBA SP and the GBA Micro was to the GBA. Its the same damn thing. its an update. not a brand spankin new console. Nintendo has been doing this shit for years. Quit acting like its just this generation that started the trend.

Nobody's listening to you anymore. Full-sized televisions that achieve 3-D without glasses have already been showcased, and the 3DS is stated as using similar technologies. If it were all as impossible as you say, none of this stuff would exist. Can you stop trolling now? Amateur-level knowledge of science qualifies you for absolutely no comment on the possibility of this technology... and considering the fact it already exists, you're talking out of your ass.

By the way...WRONG.

What one eye sees, the other sees at A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT ANGLE. You, sir fail at both physics and anatomy. Good day to you.

LOL. True - the finger trick where you stare at your finger with one eye closed, and then switch open/closed eyes.
Anyway... bit early to say... but what are we expecting this to look like?
I'm assuming that it'll have two screens and a microphone given that it has backwards compatibility.
Lol how about the OS? A 3D OS would be pretty cool.

I dunno. the Gamecube OS was pretty badass. If we saw something similar for the 3DS' OS, that would be awesome.

You know I was actually contemplating getting a DSI XL more then likely not but still considering but now I'm definitely going wait out the year and get a Nintendo 3DS I can't wait for E3 to see what it and the games will look like.

Still I think the DSi XL is a good purchase because :

1 - Not only there will be at least a year for the 3DS to come out and God knows how long for it to be creacked...
2 - There is very little chance that the 3DS screen will be equal or bigger then the XL ( it's actually rumored to be smaller ) , therefore the XL will still be arguably the best way to play regular DS and DSWare games for years to come.

I preordered mines, I'll get it on Sunday ! And I don't regret it one bit !

I think you mean "at most" a year. Nintendo has said the 3DS will be released in the fiscal year ending March 2011. That means the end of March 2011 is the very latest it could come out, but it's much more likely this will be out before Christmas.

Sure, if you're 65+

I'll take my DS Lite over the DSi or XL, thanks.

I have a feeling that if the new DS relies heavily on a always-on 3G network, then it will be next to, if not completely impossible to crack, or if it is cracked, will be extremely gimped as far as most features go.

Well seeing as I only bought the ds lite and I'm completely happy with it I'm not complaining, just stating my opinion on the matter! I just think it's stupid to have even released the dsi, I can see the argument for the XL but a 1 year life span on the original dsi is just pointless and retarded if I'm being perfectly honest.

Out of curiosity, why would an always-on 3G network make it harder to crack?

Because if the hardware, and the games require the 3G connection to work, they will most likley send/recieve an auth code every so often. If the console or software is altered in any way, the auth code is malformed and use of the DS is disabled.
