So, I'm asking for a DSi for my birthday.

I'd like to play roms obviously, as well as have it be the best one for compatibility (idk if you can do DSiWare yet, I haven't looked into it just yet).

I'd also like it to be under $20, and available on DX if possible.

Thanks! No cards can run in DSi mode, so that means all the DSi cards are running in NDS mode, without the "i" features.

Sounds like you might want to get an AceKard 2i.
One of the best, if not THE best for compatibility, and it's only $13.

It's a touch over $20, but... M3i Zero is also a good choice
And has some extras that you can't get on the AceKard.

I don't care if its a crappy clone. DX has Acekards for $12.
You should... Clone flashcards hurt the real flashcard makers.
And when they get hurt, they stop developing/updating their firmware.
When they stop developing/updating their firmware, you lose out.

Buy a REAL card... If not for them, then for yourself.

@Oisterboy: They pretty much all play roms. You're looking for one that is DSi compatible and that won't be locked out w/ a future firmware update.
All the flashcarts now have pretty much 100% compatibility.
I don't think any yet have support for DSiWare.

Your best bet is to go with the Acekard 2i. You can pick it up for $25. I have no idea what DX is. DealExtreme maybe?

Yeah... DX = DealExtreme

To order from DealExtreme you need to use a certain link:
http://www.dealextreme.com/feedbacks/Brows...ws.dx/sku.18728

Just click the Add to Cart button there.
You can't view the item itself since they were sent a DMCA notice that would close their PayPal accounts if they didn't stop listing certain flashcards. Even though they're not listed, you can still buy from them.

However, if you don't like the way that's set up, you can buy from GameKool or 0shippingzone:
http://www.gamekool.com/acekard-2i-c-14.html
http://0shippingzone.com/acekard-acekard-p-319.html

@Oisterboy: As far as I know, the CycloDS does not work on the DSi. I don't think there are any carts right now that can emulate DSiWare.

I've heard some reports that sellers have been selling faulty Acekard 2's (esp. 0shippingzone), so I'm thinking of buying an Acekard 2i instead. Is one better than the other, or is the 2i just a slightly upgraded, DSi compatible version?

CycloDS doesn't have a DSi version of their card...
And NO cards, even "i" versions of cards, work in DSi mode. They all use NDS mode.

The problem is that there has been bad batches of AceKard2 I believe, but I've heard that sites like 0shippingzone and DealExtreme are very good about exchanging them.
For the most part, AK2.1 and AK2i are the same card... but it seems like the 2i doesn't suffer from the bad batch that the 2.1 does so it's recommended to spend the extra ~$3USD and get the 2i.

@Splych Thanks man, I got it up and running
smile.gif
First I had to get a DSL so I could update the firmware of my acekard 2i. So maybe next time, you should warn people planing to use the DSi XLthat some acekards need to be updated first using an older DS. But thanks for the help, Im now running my favourite
games thanks to this forum

(Sorry I just saw this thread so I already posted this elsewhere)

Okay, I've read lots of threads/faqs/guides/reviews and I still can't decide which card I should buy. Plus it looks like some info is 2 years old, some isn't, so it's hard to get a clear picture of what options I have. unsure.gif
Here are the features I want to have on my card:

- 100%ds roms compatibility (of course rolleyes.gif )
- homebrew compatibility (I've heard there's Lode runner !!!)
- Real time save
- multimedia (movies !)
- possibility to play GBA games (only possible by adding a slot 2 card if I understood correctly ?).

Would be nice to have :

-slow motion
-sleep support (I haven't seen it anywhere... might be a silly question but is it supported ? I tend to use it a lot on my DS)
-cheap would be great but I don't think i'll have that rolleyes.gif

So I was thinking about getting a CycloDS, and then, someday, some expansion pack for GBA games (by the way, which one ? ). But I'm not sure I have the most up to date info about what's available now...
Thanks for the help !

which would be better, edge or acekard, getting pretty much for pokemon and i need to upgrade my r4

Both are good if you want to play Pokemon

both are updated, and have great compatibility. It seems you just want things to be easy and simple, so EDGE is the way to go here. If you like a more complex interface then i'd go for Acekard, and thus you can benefit from AKAIO...yet again depends what you want, yet bottom line is that Pokemon, and any other future games will most probably work and recieve support from the team

@whitepanda: Go with the Acekard 2i. Support, updates, pretty cheap, DSi compatible etc etc. As far as I've heard the bad batches are only for the Acekard 2 (the previous model). Even if you do get a busted one by some fluke, your store of choice should be pretty good about exchanging. If they aren't, I would consider buying somewhere else.

@Matalien: It depends if have a DSi or not. The EDGE/iEDGE is an excellent alternative to the CycloDS, and the iEDGE works on the DSi. It has most of the features of the CycloDS, and it cheaper (think of it as a budget version). If you want a seamless DS/GBA experience (and do not have a DSi), the M3 DS Real Perfect bundle may be for you. It comes with the GBA pack you need, and the support is built right into the firmware. If you have a DSi, the M3i Zero is the alternative to the M3 DS Real.
If you want to play GBA games, you'll need a Slot-2 device (the EZ-Flash 3-in-1 Expansion pack is excellent), and some homebrew to load GBA games from your microSD to Slot-2. Any of those are cheaper than the CycloDS. Virtually every cart supports Moonshell, a homebrew program for playing media. You'll have to find/convert movies to .dpg for them to work.
I'm not sure which flash cards have sleep support- but if you're using them for something else, like Moonshell or playing games, you could just use sleep mode in that, no?

DX takes usually 2-3 weeks to get to you. You can't buy it off DX either anymore. No the bypass doesn't work anymore either.

Try the other places such as 0SZ and Gamekool for some cheapish prices.

Hey, Phat DS owner. Want to know best cart to buy if I'm just interested in DS roms (good compatiblity for these is obviously something I want) and I want something cheap. What should I get?

And if I'm interested in GBA support what should I get? Though I'm mainly interested in DS, I want to know my options.

Alright I'm looking for nothing specific just a reliable card that supports all games and has fairly good homebrew support. Personally right now I am using an R4 and as you all know... its terrible.
hate2.gif

Thanks

NOTE: I'm using a DS lite so will an AceKard 2i work or not?

The AceKard2i will work. But you see, people say that the R4 sucks today, but isn't really that way...try to put YSmenu + DSTT v1.17a12 and watch the compatibility go very high and also have good homebrew support.

Ok so now my question is where to buy one? It seems like all of the stores I used to buy from dont have flash carts anymore.

The problem is when I got it I wasn't very educated and I got a fake one.
