...
Yeah... I'm dumping all my NES roms from my wii, but... I can't find them where the rom is located.
All of the other virtual console roms are located in 00000005.app, but that doesn't seem to be the case for the NES.

And no, I will not pirate them, I refuse.

LMAO! why do you think people will ask you for your r0mz? dont flatter yourself. anybody can go right now to any of 1,000 torrent sites and get a torrent with 20,000 roms. and you think somehow you have something that is not in that collection?

i still can't find a rom version of the mb2:lost levels wad
It's called "Super Mario Bros. 2 (J) [!]". The "J" is very important there. Another way would be "Super Mario Allstars (U)" for the SNES, as it contained SMB2J as "Lost Levels".

It's for my own personal use >.<
Think about, if I refuse to pirate them, what makes you think I'll do something even more illegal than that?

you got it wrong...
what makes you think people would ask you for a rom? in the time it took me to type this, i could have downloaded a torrent of several thousand roms. these are professional, efficient pirates you are talking to, they dont waste their time with 1 game at a time.

YOU got it wrong. OP insinuated that getting the ROMs from a torrent is NOT what they want to do. There was nothing about "oh hey when I manage to extract this ROM for my personal use, I'll offer it to you all".

VC NES roms are embedded in the 00000001.app which is the main .dol file
Since someone actually answered my question, how exactly do I open up 00000001.app?
Do I need a different tool or a plugin or something?

There are various "U8 Tools" that can do that. I'd recommend Howard C's.

Well then it's definitly not 00000001.app. Would have surprised me, if it worked. You should try 00000005.app and/or the biggest of the .app files.

You seem to have a minor reading problem...actually "minor" would be putting it pretty lightly. Not once did he say anything other than he wants them for personal use as he doesn't want to pirate. Personally I'd think it'd be easier just to suck it up and jump off the fucking high horse if I were him but that's just my opinion.

I don't know how to but I don't see why not. All of the 'inject' VC wads out there were made by injecting a regular rom (that you use in any emulator) into the .wad file in the right place. The people who do that should have to trouble taking a rom out.

Waninkiko released a WAD dumper some time ago.
You can use WAD Tools and U8 Tools to get the rom files from the wad, the only trouble I'm having is with NES roms and the romc file in newer N64 VC releases.

the 00000001.app cant be 'extracted' as its a .dol file (wii executable) not an archive. If you really want the rom your best bet is to open the 00000001.app up in a hex editor and search for it and cut it out manually. Try searching for the iNES header to show you where the rom starts (ie. search for NES in ASCII)

oh, and also most 00000001.app will now be LZ77 compressed so you will have to decompress first.

heres a little lz77 tester/extractor i made up using the wwcxtool from wwpacker, its pretty much just a .bat file packed into the .exe

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2910362/LZ77%20tester.exe

I will try and see what i can do to make some sort of cutter to use with something like vgmtoolbox

EDIT: ok seem to have got something worked out here

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2910362/vgmtoolbox_bin_r590a.rar

1 - decompress 00000001.app with LZ77 Tester.exe
2 - open VGMToolbox.exe
3 - Navigate to Misc. Tools>Extraction Tools>Generic>Advanced Cutter/Offset Finder
4 - In presets dropdown box select Nintendo Wii VC - NES ROMS and press 'load' button
5 - Drag your 00000001.app into the field where it says 'Drag and Drop files to search here'
6 - rom should be be cut and put in a folder

also if your NES VC happen to be Famicom Disk System i will need to edit the .xml, but thats only for JPN VC anyway.
