Link how to

okay so if i use this link and do what is says it should work on my wiikey v1 at 4.1u

next question is a 256 sd card big enough ?
format to Fat 32 correct is hbc region free ?

okay getting down to my main question

so how do you remove the hbc channel if say a wiikey update comes out to play nsmb or i just really want to ?

is hbc installed always even when i remove sd card or gecko whatever from link

or

is it always safe to update the wii to any new firmware with the hbc installed ?

what if i let the system update to (say 5.0 once it's available), will having the hbc channel brick my system ? seems like it did something in past reading others posts

what happens if my wii updates ? (ex. new games or would if a nintendo update will it brick system or will i need to check out info for every game backup) i wont make it update thou just wanna know

can anyone explain this guide better to me ? i have ntsc wii wiikey v1 4.1u - i have my own backup of nsmb that i personally made

i don't wanna brick my wii or have it ruined in the future

thanks for help its so hard figuring out info considering so may chips and softmod tools i dont want to mess with things like cios neogamma ect..

I'm still having trouble understanding... You want to install HBC without any other hacking tools like cIOS? Yes.

The HBC will stay if you remove the SD card, and if you launch it there just won't be any apps in it.

HBC is ALWAYS there, unless you install an old version then update to 4.2

Also, don't you have it if you have cIOS, etc?

so if hbc is installed and always there
if i update my wii can nintendo brick it because its there - on say a future updates above 4.2 i have 4.1 don't plan on updating til i get a disc update prompt for say 5.0 or whatever retail disc happens to supply new update doubt any will install 4.2 because of issues

Yes, just follow that guide, BUT when it says you should see 5 options, install the HBC and then ALSO install Bootmii as boot2 if you can. Bootmii is brick protection.

bootmii

bootmii says
Warning!
This homebrew makes permanent changes to your Wii's flash memory (NAND) and should be used with caution.

all i wanna do is play nsmb on my wiikey v1
wish they would make an update they did for wiikey2

so this guide will install the hbc and gecko and work correct anyone verify ?

HBC will not brick your Wii. I would say it's as safe to install HBC as it is any of Nintendo's channels. If you choose to remove the HBC in the future it is as easy as removing any other channel. Like anything installed on the Wii, it will leave traces even if it is removed. Nintendo will never release any update that would intentionally brick your Wii. There is no need to install anything but HBC if your only goal is to be able to run a backup of NSMBW from disc or SD card. Do not install BootMii.

If you are that paranoid you should probably just go and buy a retail copy of NSMBW.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
