Windows 7 Ultimate with OEM SLP key and BIOS SLIC MOD

Same as the above poster. Best way to go about doing it instead of all these software loaders that could screw up your OS.

My laptop already had the required SLIC in the bios, so I just input a valid OEM key and cert.

IF your question is: If i pirate windows 7, will it work ?

Answer is yes. Guessing after the first service pack, we'll need a crack update, other than that it works perfectly.

In general however, its really simple to get a key, the method of walking into the store works fine, and also if you happen to be at some university they have the serial sticker sticked on, but the running OS would be XP (hence they never use it) you can try your luck and see if they work (this worked when i stole a Windows Vista Bussiness edition serial

Currently I'm using a pirated copy of Win 7 Ultimate, but seeing as I can get Win 7 Pro/Ultimate from my school for cheap I'm considering getting a legit copy as soon as my money pile allows it.

EXACTLY. I had to learn the hard way when all my drivers got wiped and viral attack from that OS disk. It was a NIGHTMARE. I had to borrow my friend's legit CD and reinstall Home Premium on my legit key...

Using the RC right now, but I have a legit RTM copy from MSDNAA. Too lazy to upgrade since I have to reinstall Vista, then install the RTM Windows 7. Bad Microsoft.

Am I the only one who was able to upgrade from RC to RTM? I keep seeing these posts that people can't...

On a quick side note, this is what google tells me: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3075/how-to...ws-7-rc-to-rtm/

I guess whoever did my pirated version was nice enough to pre-apply this fix.

I use a legit serial of Windows 7 Pro. However the only reason I do is because my school lets me in on MSDN Academic Alliance for free, therefor I get get windows 7 Pro and a bunch of other software for free.

Otherwise I would pirate it :D

Additionally, it is not very hard to do a couple registry edits that will allow you to upgrade from RC to RTM. I was able to go from Win7 ultimate RC to Win7 pro RTM with little effort.

Note: in order upgrade from one edition of windows to one that is a lesser edition, you must regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion and must change EditionID and ProductName to be

I'm using a pirated copy until a good deal exists. Everybody knows Microsoft prices Windows too high, particularly if you require features that should be standard like policy editing and currently only exist for the most expensive version.

If and when Ultimate is available for around $100, then I will buy.

Lol, agreed.

This is probably the only reason why I'm not buying it now. Wayyyy too expensive. My funds are already suffering. ):

All they can do is deactivate the copy. You get at least 30 days after that.

Besides, we all have a few livediscs and windows install discs lying around somewhere.

I'm a college student, so I was able to get Windows 7 Ultimate from my school for $20, and then I used the .edu Win741 deal to get Windows 7 Professional for $30. The "Windows is too expensive" argument doesn't really apply to me xD Ironically enough though, I spend 90% of my time on Ubuntu 9.10 or OS X.
