Ok I understand, sorry I thought you had installed an IOS after the black screening which I though was odd.

No your pretty fooked from where you are then.

No chip will autoboot for you, I'm 99% sure of this if you can't get the recovery menu.

You'll need to send it to Nintendo.

Actually I found a guy locally with an infectus and if I can find the nand backup I made I should be ok. He's offered to flash it for me if I can find it.

If I can't find my nand backup does anyone know if the bad nand could be read with infectus then use betwiin to convert a working nand to work with my system? I don't know if this will work as I'm not sure if infectus will retreive the keys.bin or if it's even needed with infectus.

I don't think you can get the keys by dumping the nand with an infectus. You'll have to find your bootmii nand dump and get them from there. If your nand dump is new enough you'll have a seperate keys.bin along with it. If that's all you can find then Betwiin would help. just search your entire HDD for nand.bin if it's lost on the PC.

And to everyone trying to scare people out of sending this type of brick into Nintendo, Team Twiizers seem pretty convinced that Nintendo can't tell what's on your nand on a non repairable brick like this. Otherwise why do they just swap out the motherboard instead of re-flashing the nand with a clean FS? If they had in situ nand programmers and a way to get the consoles encryption key out of the OTP memory on the Hollywood chipset without been able to load up the system menu they would do that because it would be much cheaper than replacing the motherboard. This would also be the case if they had a database of per console keys used + the in situ nand programmer, but it doesn't seem like they do. If they did have that they wouldn't need to use the wii itself to get everything on the nand at the factory.

That information is really helpful and I really feel relieved now. I'm going to turn in my Wii to the store I bought it from tomorrow and they will send it to Nintendo. I hope they don't charge me too much for the repair since the warranty expired a couple of months ago. Anyway I will tell them that it got bricked while installing the 4.2 firmware, also will Nintendo transfer the save files or the Virtual Console games and the Wii points I have on my console?

Just sent mine away to the big N. Guess I'll find out in a couple of days weather or not they are going to fix it.

I did that too, but I went to the retailer I bought it from and they will send it to Nintendo.

Turns out they replaced it. Still at work so haven't had a chance to see what system menu or dvd drive it has with it but the serial number is still in the LU60 range.

Thanks for all your help.

The system menu can't run without it's IOS. What you're wanting to do is sort of like trying to run games on a pc with no OS (well not really, but enough for arguments sake).
without a kernel is a better comparison
