you can sync them while the system is in preloader. just use the red button on the wii by the SD slot and press the red button on the wii remote under the battery cover. Also read a use manual before F***ing with your friends stuff.

ok as for a way that works does the system have IOS 254 installed? check by scrolling through the possible boot IOS's for system menu in preloader settings. if it does set that to the system menu IOS and try to boot system menu. it should instead boot bootmii if you have the bootmii files on the SD card. from here you can simply find the precompiled version of Cboot2 or compile your own and use that to reinstall the latest system menu and an unpatched version of an IOS for use with the hackmii installer.

First of all I know how to sync a remote. I already tried that and if you do a search you will find that there are lots of people who also can't seem to sync in preloader. Either that's a bug on some systems, or just a feature they didnt include. I have no idea. I just know it wont work for me.

The version of preloader that is installed doesn't let me set the system menu IOS. I already tried looking at that.
I know I've done it before in version .29 but I dont think it exists in .28 unless its hidden well.

EDIT: IF THE WII YOU HAVE IS A VIRGIN 4.2, FORGET WHAT I SAID AND DON'T DOWNGRADE. That means a Wii from this year is no good.

I had a topic about this earlier, have you check mine?

I still didn't fix the issue, I was able to downgrade to 3.2 and use Preloader but it still wouldn't let me install any WADS or CIOS or run anything homebrew related if you can believe that.

If you were like me, all you need to do is delete a couple IOS using AnyTitleDeleter and then run dop-ios to bring download and patch the following IOS: IOS55, IOS70, and do IOS36. If you can patch them to the old versions, try running CIOS36 Rev 14 and it should work.

The titles you need to delete BTW beforehand are:

IOS249
IOS250
IOS222
IOS223
~Not completely sure, look around for someone who can tell you which IOS are useless

You ~CAN~ and should install Bootmii if at all possible before doing this.

And to get the HomeBrew channel to install, use an old version if you can. That's what worked for me, look into my topic. If it still doesn't work use Bannerbomb and run AnyTitleRegion and downgrade to 3.2, then try it again.

You'll continue to get 1035 errors for anything WAD related until you GET rid of the IOS I mentioned earlier.

The behavior you posted is near identical to what my Wii was doing when I tried doing a save 4.2 install then just upgraded officially to 4.2.

I got the wii to finally boot into the wii system menu!!! At first I thought I completely bricked it because it would only load a black screen and no preloader menu, but it just took a min to startup I guess.

What I did was found a wadmanager that worked with the gamecube controller. Then I found a post where someone was trying to downgrade from 4.2
They mentioned installing CIOSv9.wad followed by IOS60.wad.. then the System Menu Wad for 4.1 NTSC.
I did that and now it boots!!

Now I can sync the wiimote and hopefully install HBC again.
