Alright so Heres my story.

Was on 3.2u updated to 4.0u with waninkokos + preloader + ios60 installer

Months lather:

Updated to 4.2u with waninkoko updater. HBC got messed up, ios files were being stubborn etc etc sooooooooo

Deleted 249ios with wadmanager
ran waninkoko cios installer
ran ios downgrader
used anyregion changer to go back to 3.2u

Now my problem: I want to go back to 4.0u so I can play SDcard games/channels but:
Waninkoko 4.0 updater runs fine but when it says Finished press any key to restart it reboots to a black screen. I force off and on and the screen past bootmii is always blank. Luckily I made a NAND backup just before hand to be safe

. I also tried reinstalling preloader + ios60+patching (it doesnt work for some reason it stops after downloading)

Anyone know why it wont update to 4.0 without blackscreen/bricking? or how to do it properly?

use the new dop-ios mod v8 works a charm went from 4.0e to 3.2e and then up-to 4.2e you can check your IOS's and then choose what system menu to install remember to select the correct region

wanni's 4.0 updater was installing a stubb IOS60 that's why you got a black screen on boot lucky you had bootmii boot2 or you would have been screwed

dop-ios mod rarely successfully installs a ios when i select it D:.

Is there a list you know of which ones i need to update? and Which ios is best to load from, i've been using 36

EDIT: Just used DOP-IOS mod to install system menu 4.0u from 3.2u and got black screen. Restoring NAND as we speak. Any idea whats up? should o do incrimental like 3.2 -> 3.4 etc?

Alright so now heres what I did.

Ran cios updater 1.5
ran firmware updater 4.2
downgraded ios 30
reinstalled HBC to fix flip

and now my wii is at 4.2 and fine i dont need 4.0 i guess.. But heres my problem now xD

I have a wiikeyv1 on my d2b wii with all the regionfree settings on and I have pal games that I used regionfrii and video mode patcher on and they worked great but now the pal games will NOT read from the disc menu! They load through neogamma fine though. Anyone know how to fix it so they read from the disc channel again. Oh also in neogamma it says im using cios rev8 and it suggests rev14 is that a problem?

Wow.

Look at the modify any wii guide before you do anything else.

First Waninkokos updater to 4.2 is utter trash.

You're better off doing a manual installation.

First install Waninkokos cIOS36Rev14.

Run DOP IOS MODv8 and choose IOS249.

Install an IOS60v6174 with sig hash check (NOT 6400 which is what Waninkokos was installing. It's a stub IOS and you're lucky you had bootmii as boot2.) Then install a System Menuv449(which is system menu 4.1) for NTSC-U. 450 for Europe. 480 for NTSC-J.

That should make your system menu work.

Now go back to DOP IOS Mod and install every new IOS with no Hash check. (But make sure you don't TOUCH IOS60)

After you are done just install IOS70 with hash check and if you want to go on 4.2 make sure you have HBC 1.0.6 before you install the system menu 4.2 of your region via DOP IOS MOD.

This should update every IOS and allow you to be on 4.1 while being able to run wads off the SD card menu.

Do not mess around with Cios Downgrader. That is so outdated, and so is waninkokos updaters. BTW his 4.2 updater is trash because it fake signs everything. Never UPDATE via nintendo because your boot2 will be overwritten.

EDIT: Once you decide what system menu you want, I recommend installing preloader and enabling your system menus Hacks. (Mainly block disc updates)

Im already on 4.2 so should I restore to 3.2u with my nand backup?

Before I used 4.2 updater I tried installing ios60v6174 via dop ios (showed stub installed so i hit minus and it started downloading).. it downloads the 14 or 15 contents then stops and doesnt do anything else.

What I did:

Restored to 3.2u
Opened DOP IOS mod installed ios60
Installed system menu 4.1
Installed preloader .29 which patched ios60
installed updated versions of most ios and es_whatever to ios36 to use preloader hacks (they blackscreened me without it)

Now my system menu boots up fine but will say "system files are corrupted refer to manual blah blah"

Do the official update or zextor's safe updater.

Then, if you must, downgrade to 4.1 (due to region free on the Wiikey) using xzxero's guide. Which is bascially Get SM 4.1 and latest non-stub IOS60 (using NUS downloader) and install using WAD manager.

Heres what it does

say ios 53 I hit install latest
hit A to install
hit A to sig hash check
Downloading content
1/15 ... done
2/15 ... done
etc
then it goes
15/15 .... done

and nothing else comes up on the screen. I can download and install anything normally but if i try to sig hash check it, it chils after 15/15

Also anyone know why having the hex edited mario bros wii causes a "system files corrupt" error, is it due to unpatched ios? The error comes up only when I have the hex edited disc in my system (from the main menu), the normal one boots fine but gets the AP disc error of course.

EDIT: Also the cios i have is waninkoko's cios38rev14 or w/e it is.
EDIT2: I removed preloader and the system menu is fine now
