hey,

i have just switched my wii after a long time and noticed, it says to update homebrew, would it be safe to update? would it modify my wii.

i had in hacked in september with xzxero guide (which i must say again and thank you was very easy to follow). I am an extreme noob, and i do read alot and try very hard to understand all the formats etc..., but since the last time i posted, there are over 100 pages to catchup. i have just read this topic about an update aswell

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=188378

would i have to go through this update or would it also be included in the guide i installed in september.

my wii is 4.2 and i used trucha bug, i have noticed the guide has also been updated?

basically:

is it safe to update my wii with the new homebrew?
since september do i need to follow the new guide from begining?
and do i install cI0SCORP v3.5?
from what i read from the link above, you can dowload games and play them in ur wii if i install cIOSCORP, :unsure

thanks for all the support
Yes. The HBC update is specifically for 4.2. No you don't need to follow the guide from the beginning if you did everything with 4.2 already. cISOcorp v3.5 is optional. If installed it allows you to play backups through the Disc Channel. Personally, I don't think it's worth it because I feel like I read more people have problems with it than success.

thank you very much, i shall leave installing cISOcorp v3.5 i do not want more problems. just one or two more silly questions, just to reassure me that i am in the right track, the guide already has the preloader i do not need to install it? am i right? and once i have done the guide (which I have in september) i do need to install the usb loader? and what else would i need to add?

hey lads,
is the "modify 4.2" optional after "update to 4.2" section?

moreover, what additional steps are needed in order to run the modified nsmbwii image?

thanks

Definitely NOT optional.....you MUST go through the Modify 4.2 steps in order to actually softmod your Wii.

You're welcome. No need to bow. lol. Preloader is optional but highly recommended. If you have Bootmii installed as Boot2 you don't really need it but if it's installed as IOS you need Preloader as it'll provide protection from a System Menu brick. It's better than nothing. Also with Preloader you can enable System Menu hacks. The ones I've enabled are Disable HAXX,DVDX,RZDx Checks, Block Disc Updates, Block Online Updates, Remove NoCopy Save File Protection, and Auto-Press A at Health Screen. In the settings you can autoboot to the System Menu so you won't have to see Preloader every time you start up your Wii. To get to Preloader with autoboot on, just hold the Reset button why powering up. I used to have Replace Health Screen with Backmenu enabled but turned it off to see the picture in the DarkWii theme. USB loaders are also optional. Install it if you decide to run games off an external hard drive. If you follow the guide you would already have IOS 202 installed which enables USB 2.0.

I have a Wii ver.4.2u and have done all the "modify" steps and I'm up to installing the preloader .30, which didn't work. So I tried installing .29 and then update but i get a message "su(1-0) current ios(70) has the fakesign bug." I've tried instructions from another post by downloading preloader .29 and putting the hacks.ini in the root directory of the SD card with the same result. Are there any other options I can try?

If i do the Update to 4.2 part of the guides, do i have to do any of the others after that? Or will installing homebrew etc, replace my older homebrew channels etc? What i want to know is, will i have to install homebrew channel after the update, if i already had the channel?

I take it, they are new aswell, so i'd have to update.

You should've started with "Update to 4.2". It specifically says "Follow this if you're not on 4.2 yet." Honestly your wording is a little confusing. What do you mean by you did all the steps to update the SD card? And then you said you went to take the card to put all the files from Modify. Are you saying you didn't even do any installations?

my bad, i did update to 4.2 ( first step, everything installed) exit the WAD manager , then i take out the card from the Wii and put it to my pc to load the Modify 4.2 files on the SD card when i put it back on the Wii i get a black screen (i think i pressed the power button), i rebooted a couple of times pressing the power button also with the Wiimote but my screen doesnt change, stays black

you were supposed to install

IOS70-64-v6687.wad
& System Menu-NUS-v481.wad [NTSC-J = v480; PAL = v482]

first.

Thanks for the tip earlier, however, running into issues now..

put the files from modify.zip and when going into sd channel mode in the settings, the system hangs and i have to force it off. i followed the first steps through (installing all those ios and all that), and system is ok.
any ideas?
by the way, isn't it redundant to install bootmii/hbc in the update step, and again in the modify step?

thanks

Just curious. What would happen if the two files are not first installed (e.g. installed just after the 25 IOS files) ? and why ?

Besides, is it necessary to reboot just after the installation of the two files ?

Thanks.

your going to the wrong spot.
you reinstall HBC so it wont become upside down.

possible brick because you are updating your current system menu IOS [30, 50 or 60] to a stub IOS
which is an auto full brick if your on that system menu version.

installing IOS70 then the system menu 4.2 assures that you wont brick
no its not neccessary to reboot, just install them first.

I am sorry, but would you please explain the meaning of a stub IOS ?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the reminder.

However, reinstalling bootmii should be redundant, right ?

Thanks.

Hey, what's going on. I need some help on my friends Wii. I upgraded that Wii a few centuries ago, 3.2U. I never installed any of those new fancy updates or anything because it got a little complicated, all it has is the HBC, preloader, and a few other things I can't remember (the CD not the usb loader). Just came here to realize there's some nice guides that make it simple enough to the point that even I can understand it. I'm wondering though, if I update the old ass Wii to 4.2 will everything be cleaned out, the old HBC and preloader and such. Just wondering in case I need to remove anything or do anything difficult. I'm a little confused about the 4.2 to 4.1, do I just follow all the steps straight through until I reach utilities or do I have to install anything in a certain order (do I do the 4.2 updates, installations, and modifications THEN downgrade)? I wanna keep it region free because that's basically what we game, Japanese.

first.
Setting up the SD Card
1st download the precompiled link update.zip for your region by emailing [email protected]
Extract the "update.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii.

Installing The Homebrew Channel & Bootmii
Run bannerbomb by going to the Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf
This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX [optional], & Bootmii as IOS & boot2 if possible.

Updating your Wii
Run WAD Manager 1.5 from The Homebrew Channel.
When it opens choose IOS36. (it is probably already set to that)
Press A to leave NAND emulator disabled.
Press A to open from SD slot.
Scroll down the list to find & install:

IOS70-64-v6687.wad
& System Menu-NUS-v481.wad [NTSC-J = v480; PAL = v482]

Then proceed to install the remaining 25 IOS files & Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad
You can then erase everything from the update.zip & setup everything from the modify.zip
I did all the above steps , but when i take the card out of the Wii to put the MODIFY 4.2 , thats when i got the black screen. Is my Wii full bricked???

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
