Hi all,

I've started playing Castlevania last month with SotN on the PSP, have been completely overwhelmed by the wonderful gamedesign and I was shocked about my own ignorance, because I've never tried any Castlevania besides the SNES one, which sucked hard IMHO.

Now I've finished SotN, the 3 GBA games and the first 2 DS games and I almost don't dare to touch part 3, because I've got the bad feeling, that this could be the last high class 2D game we will ever see, because we will never see a console again, which will be as underpowered as the DS so devs can justify producing high class 2D titles for it.

So here's my question: Is there a 4th Castlevania for DS in the works? I can't find any info about it.

And BTW: Does there exist another game which is like Metroid and Castlevania?

Last time I check it did something like 220,000 copeis worldwide. Dunno if it came to Europe though.

Might not be a lot to some but its more than most DS games and it probably made more than enough profit for Konami.

Blasphemy! Castlevania IV was IMO a masterpiece!!!

But you are right. The Metroidvania games were just amazing. I started with Harmony but by far the best Metroidvania are SotN and A/DoS! I was pretty disappointed with Ecclesia but still enjoyable. Just not on par with the best...

If you played all Castlevania games how about playing Metroid (if you haven`t already...)!

It was released in PAL regions in early 2009. I'm not sure how well it did over here though. VGChartz has the game with at least 240,000 copies sold, but it hasn't been tracked for a while i don't think, and that's also not including europe numbers, so it may have actually done at least 300,000 or so already which is very good.

You should also play Rondo of Blood if you haven't (or the PSP remake). It's not quite the same design as Symphony of the Night, but it's very much worth playing. Dracula X for the SNES was kind of a poor port of it, doesn't really do it justice.

I'm not that sure, but I remember Konami said Order of Ecclesia would be the last Castlevania for the DS.

Yes, I've skipped directly to GameFaqs and looked for the SotN secret. I don't like pure action games. But visually Rondo PSP would be great. A true Castletroid with Rondo's graphics would be a wonderful PSP game.

According to Gamespot Megaman ZX and ZX Advent are Metrovania games, never played a Mega Man for longer than 10 minutes, perhaps this one will change that.

And the maps (in both ZX games) are just confusing. Still good games but with much more emphesis on action and very little on exploration.

QUOTE(Roman_42 @ Oct 17 2009, 06:52 PM) I've played all Metroids, but IMHO they've killed the game with the move to 1st person 3D.
I always felt like Prime is a SuperMetroid in 3D

I love them both but SuperMetroid was IMO the best in the series, since it`s IMO a perfect game (like arguably for example aLttP or Sonic2 were)

I recommend checking out Surge: Hive... It is a total Metroid rip-off but still very well made. The game is confusing at the beginning but it grew on me and I really liked it. I would compare it to Fusion! (but you need to have a good d-pad, since the game is isometric

Dont forgot Castlevania: Lords of Shadow for PS3/360 for 2010...

According to that wiki link, it will be a 3rd person realtime 3d game running in 30fps.

I think this game will have an annoying camera and typical 3D inaccuracy in terms of controls. This is OK for many games, but IMHO not for Castlevania, where precise control is everything.

IMHO there's only one way to do a modern Castlevania and that's 2,5D. Pure 2D sidescrolling gameplay presented in 60fps 3D graphics, controlled via a good old d-pad. The camera should only move for little cutscenes like dying bosses, special treasures, new areas and story sequences.

@Mo
Thanks, I'll try the game, and will avoid Megaman ZX.

@geminisama
Spiderman seems nice, I'll give it a try, too. Thanks.

BTW: According to some Castlevania fan site the GBA games Shaman King 1 and 2 are like Metrovania.
