r u doing the 4.1 method or 4.2, are you holding reset when powering on the wii to access the preloader menu? Do so, then go to homebrew channel, from there you can reinstall your system menu wad or the IOS your sys menu is running on (all this depends on what version ur running).

I'm heading out 4 the night, good luck

I am on the 4.2U. I tried holding reset when powering on the Wii, but I get NOTHING. No video what so ever. My TV doesn't even recognize a signal what so ever.

I found large similarities between xzxero and amarokz guides - thanks to both for the effort.

At the end I used the amarokz guide up to the IOS222 and 223 installation: after that, instead of installing neogamma r7 that was returning me always error 2021 I installed successfully SoftchipR99. After that I read that, perhaps, Wad Manager version 1.5, instead of 1.4, would have installed Neogamma.

A doubt, in me, remains: if xzxero's steps 1a and 1b (Truchabug Restore with IOS15 downgrade and IOS36 Sig Hash re-installation) can be considered equivalent to amarokz's usage of cboot2 or not.

Or, putting it differently, is Truchabug Restore with IOS15 downgrade and IOS36 Sig Hash re-installation always needed?

sorry for re-posting
anyone could answer about the need of IOS15 downgrade and Signed IOS36 re-installation?

The whole ios15 ios36 procedure is only done to be able to install the rev14 (249) installer. If you can already do that without touching ios15 or ios36, then there's no need to touch them. Unless you want to install any other app that somehow requires a patched ios36.

If you already have 249, most install-apps allow to run from 249, so no patched ios36 will be needed if you already have 249. Or 222 even.

Just curious, how come there's no mention of installing IOS70 in the 3.x-4.1 guide when its needed?
cause its not needed
Why not? Since SM4.2 runs off IOS70.... getting confused here..
You answered your own question
4.2 needs IOS70, but its the 3.x-4.1 guide

Is it? I thought that tutorial (3.x-4.1) is a guide for 3.x-4.1 to upgrade to 4.2. Anyway, IOS70 is not mentioned in the 4.2 guide as well...

Nope, 3.x to 4.1 guide updates you to 4.1, not 4.2

I don't know why the 4.2 guide doesn't mention it...

Anyway, xzxero is helping me creating another guide (together with some other people)
the guide will be the biggest guide you've ever seen for Wii.
4.2 guide was already added a while ago
but I'm not going to release it yet (first we need to finish some stuff)

No, the guide does not upgrade your version at all. It says it does in the intro of the guide, but it doesn't. I already told the author that, but the didn't read my comment, or ignored it.

Anyway, if you are going to install preloader on 4.2, you will need a jodi-patched preloader (unless you somehow installed a very old version of the hbc) and you will need to es_identify-patch ios70 and indeed it does not say that in the guide.

Oh yes, my bad. It installs system menu 4.1. But if you are on 3.1 for example, you wont have ios60, so I wonder what happens if you install system menu 4.1 then...

Ok, my bad I overlooked the part where 4.2 does not have instructions to install the system menu but the 3.x-4.1 has... anyway looking forward to the updated guide soon.

wink.gif
)

Got to this part:

2] Run Any Title Deleter DB
Choose IOS 36 and press A.
Go to System Titles and press A.
Select IOS 222 and press A to delete.
Select IOS 223 and press A to delete.
Select IOS 249 and press A to delete.
Select IOS 250 and press A to delete.
___

And I have all the numbers except Select IOS 223. Please advise! Thank you.

Hi guys. Couple of questions and suggestions. I followed the new guide and it went smoothly except for a few times where I need to press b which were left out but all in all a smooth run through. It got a little sketchy when you say preloader is optional now and no guidance is given on what to do if you do want to install the option of preloader (I had to search the thread to find out about installing the modded ios70 wad). Also there is no wad manager in the precompiled newmod file which I think is a rather large oversight considering it is needed to install the modded ios70 wad to recover from the preloader install.
Here is my biggest question. I installed cioscorp 3.4 and it seems that the wii is not reading backups. I had no issue previously using 3.3 under system menu 4.1 guide. So the question is should I uninstall 3.4 and install 3.3 once again? Or is 3.3 even compatible with 4.2 system menu? Or should I just wait for cioscorp 3.5 which I hear will be out soon?

Thanks,

iamwally

Righty, I've complete all steps for 4.2 (except the optional ones). SOOOO... how do I actually play my backups now? I know they work because they work on the other Wii + D2 Pro. Originals play from the disc channel but not backups.

EDIT: I put NeoGamma in the apps folder and it plays backups
biggrin.gif
is this the right way to do it? haha

Hi xzxero,

Thank you very much for your helpful guide. Also, thank you gbatemp.net for having this site. I'd like to donate but cant cant find where or how to chip in for my supports.

I followed every step of yours and was able to load backup disc successfully on fw 4.0 with LU70+ serial. However, the HBC menu listing of all the /apps are seems to display up-side-down after the mod. I'm not sure what I did wrong but would like to know if you have a way of fixing this.

Thank you in advance,
JC

Upside-down Homebrew Menu FIX (hopefully you never need to use these instructions)
• Simply run dopIOS. Choose to install IOS61 v4890.
o IMPORTANT: When asked to "Apply sig hash check?" choose NO. Exit dopIOS.
• If your homebrew is still upside-down, go to homebrew channel and hit the home button, it will tell you in the top right corner what IOS homebrew is using (or the bottom right if Homebrew is upside-down). If it’s not using IOS61, run Hackmii installer and reinstall homebrew using IOS61, do so and your homebrew should now be right-side-up.
• If the hackmii installer returns a “no vulnerable IOS” message, run dopIOS. Choose to install IOS30 v1040. Exit dopIOS, run Hackmii installer, and now you should be able to reinstall homebrew using IOS61, do so and your homebrew should now be right-side-up.

I to would like to see info on how to install the optional preloader or starpatch that come in the pack. looking around for answers after that fact that my wii w/o bootmii as boot2 was abit unsettling. i appreciate having the ios70 in the pack and i feel that having the wad manager might be confusing, besides it isnt hard to find.

bottom line yes i agree there should be a guide for installing preloader on 4.2 if you are going to continue to include it in the pack.
