Speaking with Cave's Makato Asada at Tokyo Game Show, we inquired about the developer's upcoming shoot-em-up release Mushihime-sama Futari for the Xbox 360, wondering if the title would be mercifully region-free and therefore import friendly. He had good news.

"We had a lot of good feedback from overseas users," Asada told Kotaku, happy with the strong response to the insect-themed, vertically-scrolling shmup. "So for this time, as a test, we're going to make the game region free so that overseas users can play it." Previous Cave games for the Xbox 360 like Do Don Pachi Daioujou Black Label Extra and Death Smiles have been limited to Japan only. So, why the change?

"By making Mushihime-sama Futari region-free, what we're doing is measuring the amount of overseas users," Asada explained. And if you care about your Cave shooters, it's probably a good idea to import a copy. Or two.

"This will have a direct impact on whether Espgaluda II and other titles will be localized for America," Asada warned us. "So it's probably a good idea to pick it up!"

The Japanese release of Mushihime-sama Futari is planned for November 26. We got a chance to play the home port at Tokyo Game Show this week, with our impressions right here.

We'll have more news on the future of Cave from our interview with Makato Asada later this week.

I'm sure a lot of you have never heard of this game. I don't really blame you, it's not exactly a title that rolls off the tongue. It's mostly known for this:

Seriously, if I had any money I'd probably get this to encourage the whole import-friendly thing. But with my current situation $70+ for importing a game like this is just out of the question.

This looks insane, but I think I'll stick with Raiden Fighters.

Edit: The ship's hitbox must be really small, otherwise there's no way you could dodge those attacks.

I know what you mean. I've got a handful of 360 games I'm not playing anymore tho so I might flog them to put towards it. Are we allowed to sell DVDs in the For Sale section here?

If they're the actual retail discs and not backups, yeah of course.

And for those that don't know, that boss battle linked in the video is considered the hardest shmup boss in history. I've never seen a video of someone actually beating it without continuing. I really don't think it's possible. I wonder if anyone will...

It's not that bad, I can survive that easily, maybe you should play a good Shmup such as Touhou for practice and you'll do fine.

I've played one of the games from the Touhou Project (I think it was called Embodiment of Scarlet Devil or something like that) and thought it was pretty good. I'm looking forward to giving this one a try as well, but I need to get a 360 first

that's a great joke my friend

Don't be like that

Touhou is great for beginners. You wouldn't want to start someone off on Cave, now would you?

That is some serious bullet hell. [insert usual rant about region locking], not sure why they would even consider region locking this sort of game though (not as though "parallel" markets is a problem for this whole genre).

Also anyone else reminded of panzer dragoon from the boxart?

Mushihime-sama Futari is one of the Bullet Hell shmups that I haven't played yet. I really need to get this one when it comes out. I already have a Japanese X360 in my possession and already have DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label EXTRA, Ketsui ~ Kizuna Jigoku Tachi ~, DeathSmiles, Shooting Love. 200X and Shikigami no Shiro III for it. I will definitely be waiting for this title to be released!

Raiden Fighters Aces and Raiden IV Kick ass!

You just convinced me I want a Japanese Xbox 360, was thinking of getting an NTSC console but I think a Japaneese one would be more worthwhile now.

Any good places to import one to the UK apart from Play-Asia?
