As most of you know, I have been on here since Feb 2008..

I have mostly been involved in DS cheats and general help.. Well, now its my turn to ask for your help!!

I am a complete newbie to the wii.. In fact, I havent even got mine yet.. Im getting it in a few weeks and am going to hack it in some way as to play 'backups'.

What I am wondering is: What is the easiest, simplest, most convenient and safest way to hack a wii?

I am sure there have been thousands of threads regarding these sorts of matter, but I really want some personal responses..

So, WHat should i do? Softmod, USB loader, SD loader, Solder, Solderless??

I know it all comes down to the serial number of my wii, which I havent got yet but I just want to get a general idea of what to do?

The things you can do are very confusing, with people telling you to chip, people telling you to softmod, people telling you to use a USB loader??

I would really appreciate it if I could get some firsthand knowledge on what is best to do with my wii? And if its a certain thing, which chip, or USB loader or softmod?

I wouldnt ask but I dont want to risk doing the wrong thing and stuffing my wii up... If I get flamed, its worth that then bricking my wii or buying the wrong thing..

Thanks Guys..

I have thought long and hard about it, but I have another few questions

Does softmodding restrict anything?
Can you use burnt backups of the game, on dvd?
Is there a major difference between softmodding and chipping, apart from the price..??

Thanks

hardmod will let you play backups from the main system disc channel.

This can be accomplished in a few ways with pure softmod. If you plan on usb loading then there is no need to hardmod at all so you should rule that out.

The stickies are good but i can give you a real quick guide without the steps for each point just the main points the way i do it.

1: Upgrade your wii to 4.1 through the built-in nintendo updater.
2: use bannerbomb and hackmii to get the homebrew channel making sure to install bootmii to boot2 if available or IOS if not.
3: If you could install bootmii to boot2 then make a backup of your nand.
4: Use "Trucha Bug Restorer" to get a patched ios36.
5: Install cios38rev14.
6: Install preloader by either
a: use wadmanager to install a ios60patched.wad
b: use dopios to manually patch ios60
c: then install preloader and get a hacks.ini for your wii's region, load preloader and choose your hacks.
7: Now have a play, install your usbloader, maybe neogamma for disc loading and any other homebrew you want.

All these things can be found with videos on youtube and in depth in the stickies of this forum.
Good luck!

Lee.

You can read through my guide while you're waiting to get your Wii (in my sig/in the stickies/in tj_cool's guide). If you're able to read through and understand all of that, you will actually know what you're doing when following any other guides if you so choose.

I would suggest reading through it, then using another shorter guide as more of a checklist of what you should be doing.

If you still need some real time help when you're doing it or something you can try to catch me in the irc channel in my sig if I'm there or just add an 88 to my sn here and IM me through AIM.

Alrighty, finally got my wii...

Im thinking of softmodding my wii as it has the latest Serial Number on it...

Im at FW 4.2..

Just wondering, which guide is the best to use? Are there any problems softmodding? Any risks?? Anything I should be wary of.. I need to know all this before I do it.. It costs too much to be wrecking it in a minute..

The only problem is there are tonnes of guides out there telling you to do this and to do that.. And I dont know which guide to follow.. I dont particularly want to stuff around with the software on my wii and want to know if theres a way to reset the wii if something goes wrong?

What I need is confirmation that you can do it easily and it doesnt ruin anything??

For something who's been here longer than I, you're asking really based already answered a million times questions. I know post counts don't matter, but ya know? But if you have any questions that a guide can't answer I'll help ya out.
The WII console is hard to understand, but also it's the easiest to read as there are soooo many guides. I didnt want to flame u on ur post.
Preloader
Bootmii
USB loader_GX
Update to 4.2 Safely
IMG BURN - burning software
These things if you use right, will fix everything.

Its not that I cant read through the guides.. Its the fact there are so many and I want to pick the right one.. We're not all made of money and I just wanted to make sure that I wasnt going to harm my console..

Its also the fact that I wanted some firsthand knowledge of what to do.. Im precarious when it comes to things like this.. I dont just do something without making sure its 120% safe

You said Upgrade to 4.1. What if you're past that Upgrade? Will this still work?

Use xzxero's guide: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901

It is very simple and works 100%.
USB Loaders are part of the softmod, so the only question is do you wanna spend money for a modchip or just softmod your wii for free.
One very important thing is that you don't downgrade your Wii < 3.4 and you have to check, if you have a new disc drive which isn't able to read burned discs. In this case you should think about a modchip or just use Usb loaders, which are the better choice for playing.

Okay, I know I'm going to sound like a newb, but...

Okay, first, how do you check to see if your Wii can or can't read burned discs? and second, how does the whole USB loader work? are you talking about an external USB hard drive or something like a USB flash drive? If these answers are somewhere on the site, I don't know; it's pretty big, I'm not very familiar with the place and my roomie said this place was the best to go to for answers. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
