I got this game to work
I burned the game to Philips brand DVD-R
My wii is ver4.1U
I had installed cios232 a while back to get rockband 1 and 2 to work
all i changed is updated softchip to r99
used Hermes and installed IOS 223-IOS 38 merge with 37
Set softchip to boot off of 223 and it didnt work then set it back to my old 232 and worked like a charm
also dont know if this might be a contributing factor
i loaded neogamma and restarted with hooks tried loading off the disc channel and installed whatever update it wanted me to
In any case its working 100% got online downloaded some songs from the music store
played some songs to see if there was lag or anything odd
plays perfect!!!

Installed that wad
Ran cIOS_installer v2.8D
Ran cIOS 222 and installed it as 36
Ran cIOS 223 and installed it as 37 merged
Launched game in uloader..... failed
Launched game in configurable.... failed
Launched game in GX.... failed

Srsly, what the hell ._.
Try the new Hermes 222/223 V4 and install 222 as 38 default and 223 as 38 merged 37.
Use Usbloader CFG 41 or later and set the ios to 223-mload.

You can get the V4 here: http://mods.elotrolado.net/~hermes/wii/uloader_v3.0B.rar

After a lot of messing around with cIOS installations, I managed to get GH5 working with the latest HERMES cIOS via uLoader and CFG Loader. The game ran fine for 10-15 mins, then hung, forcing me to do a hard power-down. Its happened twice so far, once in the menu, once during a song. I can confirm that I do not have the 'sunshine' rip that others were asking about... Is there a simple fix for this, or should I burn it instead?

EDIT: I burned it to a TDK DVD -R and I have not had any issues with stuttering or crashing. It works great! I will be happy to put up with the slightly slower load speeds to be confident its not going to crash. Now I'm off to buy a mic so my girlfriend can sing!

If I play the game of the retail disk will it update my wii or mess up the softmodding at all? My roommate bought the game and said he'd bring it in so we could play

Okay seriously, I am at wits end.
I have installed every type of Cios from hermes imaginable
I have Cios 38 rev 14
I have ATTEMPTED to get the Trucha bug solved [ downgrade ios15, merge 36 into 249, upgrade ios15], but it said my Ios36 was past some 30xx rev or whatever, so I skipped that process.
I have every USB loader I could try [including uLoader, USB Loader GX, CoverFloader, and Configurable USB Loader, ALL of which will not load GH5.
I think as of right now, I have Cios222 As 38 default
and Cios 223 as 37 merged with 36
System Firmware is 4.1u

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?! D=

Progress Log v1: After rechecking/redownloading Cios 223 37 merge 36, CFG Loader seems to be making the most progress. Rather than the IOS trying to reload, it just...hangs. I can reset the Wii still, but the Wiimote has no functionality.

Log v2: More tinkering, and now at last, I can get the green flashing screen from uLoader. Doesn't really feel like progress, BUT at least I don't just get the black screen and then kaput. USB Loader GX is also strange. I try using 223 and 222, and I get a black screen, followed by waiting, followed by a random restart and sending me back to the Wii Channels. 249 just freezes on the spot.

I'm amazed that you haven't quit yet lol. It seems like you're doing things right, although I'm not 100% sure since I just can't load the game @_@.

A friend of mine got cIOS223 up in the settings on USBLoader GX, how can I launch games in there using cIOS223, I can't see to get it up there. I'm quite confused. I've never done this before so bear with me.

I got it working the other day and have played a few songs with no crashes or anything. I was already on cIOS 249 rev 14 and I downloaded the latest Uloader (3.0b I believe) and installed the newest cIOS 222 installer from there. I ran the update for 222 with 37 and 38 merged. Works great now with CFG USB Loader. My full settings for this game are:

CFG Loader 42a
Wii 4.1u
cIOS 249 rev 14
game specific setting run 222-mload w/ 02 error fix on
running off a Fujistsu 80gb 2.5 HDD in USB 2.0 enclosure

Hope that helps someone!

I do actually have a quick question, being not so knowledgeable in Wii IOS's.
I understand a CIOS is the same as an IOS, Compareable to PSP's OFW and CFW [kinda sorta, in a way, but not at all]
Now, cIOS 249 Rev 14, Would having that eliminate the need to do the whole Trucha Bug Restorer? Because I know you need to merge 36 into 249, but if I put 249 rev 14, wouldn't that over-write the 36 merged 249?

All this is REALLLLLYYYY Confusing, but I'm trying to make sense of it all.
and I've been trying to set my Wii up based on others' success, so I'll try your setup next Caliban xD

Got it working finally on USB Loader GX whoo! I gave up for a couple days and a friend came over and wanted to play so I tried something different again.

Ok so I updated to CIOS38 Rev14 first of because I was on like rev12 I think, anyway then I installed the wad IOS56-64-v5146 from Technom8 on this thread. I'm not sure it helped or not it probably wasn't necessary since people have been able to get this working with out installing it. Then I followed this guide below that I put on this thread a few pages back. Which didn't work for me as well as others. See below the guide \/

I can confirm Cookie's method of getting it to work. No offense though, Cookie, but you should have just posted it here rather, which I'm going to do. Seems pointless to go sign up for another board when this one is just as good for posting.

From Cookie's original post at WarezBB:

This is My Guide to Getting Guitar Hero 5 to load up useing Usb loader gx

Install this wad via wad manager

http://rapidshare.com/files/272838683/IOS5...-v5146.wad.html

its required to play!

Download Hermes IOS

http://gwht.wikidot.com/hermes-ios222-223

Im assumeing you already have Usb Loader Gx (latest Build)
and the Hombrew Channel installed

1. step load up Hommebrew Channel
2. start the cIOS 222 Installer
3. Read the warning message and push A
4. Select IOS249 to perform the install and press A
5. Select to Install Custom IOS 222
6. The Select IOS merged with IOS60 & 36
7. Let it Install and Reboot.
8. Open Up Homebrew Channel (may Restart in homebrew Channel
9. tart the cIOS 222 Installer
10. Read the warning message and push A
11. Select IOS249 to perform the install and press A
12. Select to Install Custom IOS 223
13. The Select IOS merged with IOS60 & 36
14. Install it
Now When you done installing it Open Usb Loader gx
now find Guitar Hero 5 and and Go to settings and select ios 223 and activate fix 002 and press b and then click on the disk and it should work.

Note that this is not mine, but Cookie238's guide, he/she deserves the credit.

Did all this and still getting a black screen on 4.1U and the latest USB Loader GX.

Ok so after that guide didn't work I tried this...

Use the Hermes CIOS 222/223 installer again and... install Hermes cIOS 223 with IOS37 merged with IOS36.

So in other words, when you start this installer select 223 instead of 249 and then select 223 with IOS37 merged with IOS36.
Then load USB Loader GX, use IOS 223 turn on 002 fix, and Disable the IOS reload option save and... run the game.

Try exactly that folks it should work for sure at least with USBLoader GX. Hopefully this helps guys/girls.

Okay, I'm a complete moron. I just noticed in the latest version of USB Loader GX, when you click the game it gives you a settings option. I'm aware of what to do in there (I'd like to confirm it).

So, I've just restored my NAND to start fresh.

Atm my specs:
4.1U
cIOS-38 Rev14

Now, I'd like to gather some information from other 4.1U users, as to how they got it working. Which options should I use when I load the cIOS222/223 installers.

Which version would I use? And most importantly, I'd like to confirm me knowing what I'm doing with the settings, but if someone could tell me which to use, that'd be great.

I'm thinking, Force NTSC and 002 Fix set to on. Other than that, I wouldn't know what's best.

Thanks in advance.

^Followed your steps, NO luck once again. I'm done with this for tonight.
I've gone so far to even download a whole new copy of the game, for fear I had a corrupt ISO.
no amount of Hermes could save my sanity at this late hour, suppose there's always tomorrow after work.
Let's hope there's some more steps to follow.

At this point, I'm about ready to just throw in the towel and Virginize my Wii, and start from scratch xD

Yankee, I wouldn't completely listen to me seeing as I've had no luck, but from what I've gathered, you need to load the game with Game-specific settings that follow as such; IOS 223, possibly even 222, Anti Error 002, and ios reboot block. That's what I've gathered from all my reading these past few days. Hope it helps

Ok I followed the advice of everyone here and used

4.1U
cIOS-38 Rev14 as 249 (not used though, black screen)
Hermes cIOS v4, 223 as 38 merged 37
USB Loader GX latest version at time of this post, set to use cIOS 223 and Anti Error 002 on by default

and it works fine, except the USB mic doesn't work. I guess this is expected for now?

I'll repeat part of my post as this part may solve your problems:

My settings for USB Loader GX 1.0 rev 717 on this game only (not my global settings) are as follows:

Video Mode: Force NTSC
VIDTV Patch: Off
Game Language: English
Ocarina: Off
IOS: 223 (222 and 249 will flash the green screen then give the black screen, so maybe those can work with different settings?)
Parental Control: 0(Everyone)
Error 002 Fix: On
Patch Country Strings: Off
Alternate DOL: Off
DOL from disc: Off
Block IOS Reload: On

For me it seemed little things no one here is talking of made a difference for me such as Video Mode and Game Language.

I had tried MANY different mixes of options, and nothing worked.

Now, I have the EXACT same settings as above, and GH5 works perfectly. (for whatever reason, this combination of Game Load settings is the right mix.)

4.1U (wanin's updater)
cIOS rev14
USB Loader GX r719
Hermes 222/223 (with merged 36/37)

I'm determined to get this stupid thing to work ._.

EDIT: Jesus, it still doesn't work XD

Hey, I just wanted to pass along to everyone a great value I found last night...
My g/f and I were out frantically looking for a Microphone for GH5 at 8:00 last night, all we could find were Logitech headsets for around $30. This seemed like it was going to be our best bet, until we hit WalMart. They were selling a game called "Nickelodeon Naked Brothers Band", which included a Logitech USB microphone for $15 (CDN). We promptly bought it, and it works great for Guitar Hero 5, and Metallica. I haven't even broken the seal on the included game, but I thought that anyone who may be looking for a cheap microphone, this would be their best bet.

Turn it up to 11 and Rock On!
