Hi Moe,

Thanks for all the help so far. I got through your guide on getting the HBC and extras running, and had no problems following it. There were a couple of weird spots - for example, neither wiiGator nor softchip let me choose an cIOSxxx number. I'll burn a wii game later and see if they work or not...
After I installed everything, i replaced the boot.dol with the one in the Last Step After Finished Installation folder - I hope it's okay that i did that at the very end, and not right after installing HBC.

So, the next step is trying to get a usbloader running. I installed usbloader GX channel, and it installed, but it doesn't see the USB (Patriot 32Gb) that i formatted with WBSF Manager 3.0. I tried several different USB sticks, and nothing worked. I thought it might be because cIos36 was only rev7 from your package, but the gbatemp guide to installing rev 9 has a broken link, and I'm not sure I trust the one I torrented. And usbloader asks whether to search for USB through cIos249 or cIos222, but cIos249 was for wiiGator, wasn't it?

I'm very confused. Can you just point me in the right direction from here?

THank you,

Dirk

/me doesn't understand why people choose to dig up month old threads that include 6 month old guides...

Edit: By no means was my post intended as an insult to the author. It was a great guide back in it's day, and will still work on Wiis from the same time. It's one of the guides I checked out when hacking my Wii, actually. But since the guide has not been updated, it will cause newer Wiis to brick, and no one wants that. There are a few guides sticked at the top of the page that will work on any Wii, new or old, and has all new apps and whatnot in them as well. I was merely saying that when n00bs dig up old guides, they need to realize that older methods could quite possibly brick their new Wiis.

I didn't really dig it up - it was in a signature and seemed to have been recently updated. But it was super stupid of me not to go to the main forum and read the stickies first. Luckily it didn't brick my wii.

But now if I go to the wii - hacking forum's noob stickies, i guess they assume i'm starting with a virgin wii. I want to install bootmii, so how do i do that from where i am now? I doubt i can just run their program, because my wii is 3.2U now ( I downgraded from 3.4 using Big Moe's programs) And i think they want 4.1.

Sorry for not following the right directions from the start...

I managed to install and run usbloader gx. From a state of having installed Big Moe's stuff, i just had to install bootmii, and then install cios38 rev14 from waninkoko's site, to enable the usbloader gx channel i had already installed.

Cheers.

you should be fine with tutorial !!! all you have to do is just run the cIOS38_rev14 installer and after that go to the HBC and it will prompt you to update if you have an available internet connection and when you do it will ask you to install Bootmii as a boot2 and it will tell you if your system is compatible with it or not

Hi,

I installed V3 on a couple of Wii's a long while back. I was asked to update them to allow them to run a few newer games that were received as xmas presents. First I updated the version of Homebrew that was offered. Then I installed IOS236 and IOS249 using "GAF's Wii Homebrew Tutorial" and then used Waninkoko's 4.3B updater to update the firmware. Do I need to update anything else or install anything further? I will be putting a USBLoader on them also in the near future so I presume I need to install cIOS38_rev14, ultimate usb loader and CFG Loader but is that it?

A big thank you for all your work thus far.

Thanks,

Fangio

...look how old this thread is... Waninkoko's firmware 4.3B has A LOT OF errors, mistakes and can BRICK your wii. Please start to read the new stickies, cIOS38 r14 is very old, the latest one is r21!
