Focus Home Interactive was pretty secretive out at Gamescom, but it looks like they've confirmed that Firebrand Games is indeed working on Trackmania 2 for DS. You can expect 150 new tracks, all the functionality of the first game, and new locations such as 'Coast' and 'Snow Island'.

I loved the first game. IIRC I had atleast a silver on every track. I'm actually a pretty big TM fan. I still play Trackmania Nations on almost a daily basis. For the game to a successful sequel to the first, it needs:
-Online level sharing
-Online multi-player
-LEADERBOARDS DEAR GOD LEADERBOARDS

Trackmania isn't really the same w/o online.

OMFG! As soon as I saw the thread I started shouting "YES YES YES YES YES YES" then I got up from my chair and started spinning around myself while screaming "YES YES YES YES" furiously.

You think that's bad? You should have seen me when GTA IV PC was announced.

Man, TMDS was AWESOME! Can't wait to see what they pull off in this one (online online online online ONLINE PLZ)

I should really play the first one I guess, I'm still unsure if I've played it or not. Maybe it came out when my DS was broke.

Couldn't agree more! I remember they said somewhere in an interview they would add online in the sequel if the first one sold enough.
So probably they'll add it now!
And yeah, Trackmania without online is pretty stupid IMHO.
Just not the same.

The first Trackmania DS is the best racer on the DS. So this is good news even if they don't add online. But if it actually had online it will be the bomb.

Please no use of Friend codes would be great (no obligatorily use at least). And 16 players online? Very nice!
Same for level sharing online.
This is exactly the thing more Wiigames need to do. Great online support. First Boom Blox with the great level editor and sharing online and now this.
Also 4-player split-screen? Just keeps getting better!
I have another source though that says the GC controller is usable. Would be great too, I can play with 3 then.

God I hope Naboo can pull this off!

Yes! I hope The include online play, that would be so cool!

EDITD: found this on the internet, and it looks like wi-fi is included!:

Perhaps the most significant new feature to TMDS2 is the addition of Nintendo WiFi support for track sharing and playing online. The lack of this was the biggest criticism of the original Trackmania DS which has put many players off, so Firebrand have made a wise move by listening to their critics. It is not currently known quite how this online mode will be implemented or how many players will be able to race simultaneously, but at least players of the game should be able to play people on the same table as them or across the globe.

Trackmania DS 2 will be coming to Europe in Q2 2010, and hopefully close to then in Australia.
