Why would you not have upgraded to 4.1 like my guide says?

Before I try to waste time helping you get an obsolete SM to work.. can you tell me why you decided to stay on 3.2?

Either the part to upgrade to 4.1 wasn't there when I followed the guide for soft mod or I overlooked it due to being overly excited about finally able to mod the wii, I can't really recall. No reason for not doing it since I'm pretty much just trying to follow guides from the forum.

3-2 drives, but haven't received an answer yet. Has anyone tried this guide with one of these 'unmoddable' drives?

Just to clarify, Im not warning of a brick here I just want to confirm/deny that they are unmoddable. If they are indeed unmoddable do the guides need updating?

You did indeed receive several answers. A new drive will not affect softmodding in any way. The only thing that may be affected is that you will no longer be able to play burned games.

You have also been told that this didn't even seem like a legit claim and that it was probably just something made up by the modchip sellers to make money.

Probably and maybe isn't what I'm looking for. LU64 claims weren't legit originally and look at how many bricked Wiis we had. Just after confirmation that it does/doesn't work.

even if it's a new drive it won't stop making the wii unmoddable.
the worst it'll do is disable reading DVD-r

im on the step where i go to the HBC and load the pre loader installer... it just stays at the "please read this carefully screen".. iv pressed a/1 nothing happens.. do i load it and just wait longer? help please

Try it again. Don't press any buttons while you wait.. if nothing pops up still, try pressing 1 or 1+2.

same here. i have an lu64 serial number (got it today and at 3.4u). i followed every instruction. i pressed a because it woudn't get past the warning section in the Preloader file. after i did that, i waited a few seconds, it says "failed to get ROOT, current IOS(36) has the fakesign bug fixed"

i just want to be able to play backed up games.

this is how it is, i installed the homebrew channel. within it, theres Neo Gamma with the icon and it says Play Wii Games

and below that it says /apps/PreLoader/boot.dol and it says

please help oh and if i ever want to delete the homebrew channel and everything within it, how would I do that. thanks.

i get an error when i install hbc it says the current installeed boot1 prevents boot 2

and if i instaal bootmii i get error 1 i think it has failed to make a map file or something ihave version 4.1e

and i have exit the thing where you can install it says flushing log failed eroor 2 then it freezed

i have skipped the bootmii and moved on to the backuplauncher and chose the wad installation and if i try to install the wad r7 backup i get error 2011

i now did the that the r7 load from hbc but i got an error no cios installed and if i loaded wii play it did loaded does that depend on the dvd ?

You can delete HBC the same way you installed it.. there will be an uninstall option there.

I recommend you first go back and read the guide. Clearly, you have missed several steps. The HackMii installer works just fine.. you're just not able to install BootMii as boot2. It will still install HBC for you. You also didn't patch IOS36, which is why you're getting errors in the channel install.. and you didn't install a cIOS. That's pretty much 90% of the guide you missed........

if i use the ios patch does that mean it can brick the wii but to prevent i must install preloader but to do that i need to have it patched right?

how do you know you only need the backup launcher?
you should just go back and start over and stop thinking you know what you can/cannot skip.

no!! man nothing here will brick your wii if you use it how its supposed to.
you can still install bootmii as an IOS

thanks Deviyl. I uninstalled everything and I updated it to 4.1u now. i want to backup my NAND but I dont have a gamecube controller. O and i downloaded Bootmii as an IOS. is there an alternative to using the gamecube controller because I dont want to start modding and risk it. help is greatly appreciated.

i bought the wii sports pack with a controller and nunchuck. after the whole modification proces,, where do you guys go to download backed up games? i heard of piratebay. com and do i only have to download games in IOS format? thanks

i just installed the ios patch and everything went as it should though i have not bootmii and the nand just preloader but don't know wat it does

the only error i get is when i use the backuplauncher got error 1101 cannot read disc but i think it's damaged cause my computer can't read it either

In boot2, you can use the hardware buttons on the Wii itself to navigate. I'm not entirely sure we're at liberty to discuss pirating games here. None of this is intended for you to illegally obtain copyrighted games. =)

See what happens if you read? You were getting the PreLoader error because you didn't patch 36 like you would have had you read. Why didn't you at least install BootMii as IOS?

Your computer can't read a Wii disk one way or another.. what type of disk are you using?

i use tdk disc dvd+r
and a tdk dvd-r

i also patched ios 36

ans installed cios 249 rev 14

and i also couldn't install bootmii as an ios he couldn't create anything on the sd card

when he tried to create the map /bootmii it said

failed error (-2)

okay, i finished modding my wii using all the steps. i didnt backup my NAND though.

i have the following in the homebrew channel; cIOS38r14 installer, NeoGamma, Trucha Bug Restorer, and /apps/PreLoader/boot.dol

is there anything i can delete? because I tried downloading WAD manager and its not showing up on the homebrew channel so im guessing I have to delete one of the files already there to make space???
