I followed this tut with the online mode and everything went well. I did have to install IOS60 prior to FW updater 4.1. All of my backup launchers and VC/WiiWARE games work but my shop channel and photo channel just go to a black screen and lock up the wii. I also tried the news channel but it needed wiiconnect24 on which is bad bad bad, right? I was able to use the Internet channel just fine so it's not like all of my internet requiring apps don't work. Anyone else have this problem?

My photo channel works fine but my shop channel doesn't (see a few posts back). Mine goes to a black screen too but it doesn't lock up the Wii, it goes back to the system menu instead.

I also enabled region-free SD card channels. I'm thinking that hack may possibly be interfering. I'll try disabling it when I get home, unless you can in the meantime

I have succesfully update from 3.4e to 4.1e offline mode and i have a couple of questions:

1) I have BootMii installed as boot2, can i skip the preloader installation?

I did. Just replace preloader with StartPatch v4.1. It'll add the fixes and you don't have to use the intrusive preloader!

I don't think it's the region-free SD card channels hack interfering because I set the hack after I had tried accessing the shop channel. But to be sure, I disabled the hack and the shop channel will still load to the system menu.

Note that you need cIOS rev 12 or higher for StartPatch 4.1

Hmm, yeah. I don't really use the shop channel anyways, but it would be nice to have everything in working order. I'm thinking of using my nand backup and going to 4.0 then 4.1. I don't know though :/ i'd rather just have this one work!

Same here but yea like you said, it would be nice to have everything in working order. I think I need IOS61 for the shop channel since Dop-IOS reports that it's missing from my system, but I'm not too sure. I also might drop Preloader and try out StartPatch since the region free hacks (GC and SD channels) I needed don't appear to work for me.

I was thinking the same, i really want to play my mr. driller wiiware! I'll have to do more reading on the cIOS versions though, I think someone said 14 doesn't have error 002 fixes which i need for wii sports. And I think that 11-13 have random issues with backup loaders.

You don't have to drop preloader for startpatch, just don't enable the same hacks. I think trying to use nandcleaner or whatever would be a hassle instead of installing them side by side. And interestingly, wiibrew's description for why not preloader is that it avoids the disc spinning forever, which is fixed in preloader 0.29... so I am thinking if preloader's hacks.ini uses same memory patch that startpatch does for region free channels there really is no need for startpatch

Begging for help here.

When I do step #3
3) Install the Homebrew Channel and install BootMii as boot2 if possible or as an IOS if boot2 is not available.

The homebrew channel says press 1 to continue. When I press 1 it does nothing.

How do I get it to install the HBC?

*EDIT had to use a game cube controller for it to work

Can anyone please help? I am running on 3.3U and already have HBC installed using the twilight hack. Should I reinstall HBC according to the directions or just skip it and go ahead and install bootmii? Thanks

Install the HBC through it as well, it is a more recent version than you have as the twilight hack most likely did not install version 1.0.3 on your Wii.

My Wii has two broken buttons (Power and Reset, I use Wii-Mote's Power Button and Eject Button to turn it on), will it work without pressing these buttons?
Won't it brick if I suddenly shut off?

I had 3.2U with twilight hack. I know it doesn't load the most recent homebrew channel when you first run it but I don't think a lot of people realize the homebrew channel will tell you if there's an update. (at least it did for me so I was current.) Also, I had already but bootmii on boot2 and ran my NAND backup (DO THIS FIRST IF YOU HAVEN"T ALREADY). I also still had starfall on.

So I just skipped those steps and went on with the trucha restorer, ios downgrader, downgrade to 3.2 (even though I was on 3.2), cios rev14, dop ios, 4.0 updater, dopios, 4.1 updater, dopios (I know that's a lot of dopios but did it just in case). Then I installed startpatch.

I followed the guide and installing WADs works however loading games from USB does not work.
Do you have to install cIOS_usb2.wad ?

Okay so I did all of this today and everything worked, but then I decided to put in a Wii disc to play a game, but that doesn't work now.

Problems:
- If I put in a disc while it's on [i.e. it isn't booted with the disc in it] it will freeze on the system menu. (this doesn't bother me as much as the second problem)
- If I boot it with the disc in it, then it will not freeze the system menu, it shows what game it is on the disc channel, and then I hit the "Start" button and it will proceed to try to play the game. After a few spins of reading the disc and a black screen, it returns to the system menu.
- I found out that it plays Gamecube discs but not Wii discs...

Any solutions are greatly appreciated.

Edit:
May be due to this.

If you want to load games from the disc channel you must install CIOSCORP

2) Install the CIOSCORP WADs

3) Install CIOS60BF.wad
Will try and see if that works.

No cIOS rev9 and above should have it built in. Did you format your drive to WBFS?

I used dop to install IOS 61 and my shop channel is working again

My photo channel is also working. I enabled region free channels patch 1 and 2 in preloader and my Japanese mr driller just black screens. I used free the wads on it with no luck either. Anyone have Japanese wiiware on a US console working?

Another question:
I have EA Grand Slam Tennis that ask me to install the 3.4e firmware.
How can i skip this? Only with the preloader?
Why it ask me to update if now i have 4.1E?
