today i installed cioscorp and cios60BF on my 4.0E .
but now i cant run custom channels from sd-menu (which i think is because cios60 doesnt seem to be patched).
is there a way to have both, copies through disc-channel and custom channels on sd-card-menu?
CIOS60BF is what allows you to run wiiware/vc from the sd menu. try reinstalling cios60 and reinstalling preloader without any hacks enabled

QUOTE(WiiVirgin @ Jun 28 2009, 07:24 AM) Followed the OFFLINE guild completely, but when I try to install 'Preloaderv0.29' I get the followed error on a black screen:
Failed to BOOT, current IOS(36) has the fakesign bug fixed
that question is answered in the FAQ

OK here is my problem. I was at system Menu 3.2U and I followed the online directions. Everything installed great and I was at system Menu 4.0. I powered off the wii to make adjustments to pre-loader 2.9. I held the reset button and pre-loader did not start and the Wii went directly to the regular menu. I started Homebrew from the system menu and loaded in pre-loader. When I reset the Wii I get the pre-loader menu and I made all the necessary adjustments but when I went to load the Wii system Menu I get a black screen with just 4.0U on the bottom right of the screen. I went back to pre-loader and reinstalled everything from System menu 3.2 to the 4.0 upgrade and again pre-loader does not function. when I tried to reinstall pre-loader it I get the black screen again. Everything works fine in system menu 4.0 but I can not launch out of area games and I am no longer protected from bricking. What am I missing. Is there a way to install pre-loader once System 4.0 is installed without getting a blank screen. The FAQ's do not address this issue:

Will this work with Starfall? Preloader 0.28?

No. You MUST use Preloader 0.29. Starfall hacks wont work on 4.0. Use the latest preloader hacks.ini

Do original discs work with/without CIOSCORP?

Yes. CIOSCORP and CIOS60 only affect Backup Discs

How do I fix the error when installing preloader "current IOS(36) has the fakesign bug fixed"?

Install "IOS36-64-v1042.wad" which can be found on a disc or using the Offline Pack

How do I uninstall preloader?

Downgrade with cIOS Downgrader and run Waninkokos Updater again

Thanks

Last night, I installed UsbLoader GX, then tried it with several different brands and sizes USB mem sticks
Tomorrow i'm going to buy my self a WD 640GB externa HDD
I am really going to like to be able to store my discs somewhere else and free up some space

try running nandclean to remove any previous traces of preloader and then install preloader 0.29 again with the latest hacks.ini on your SD card.
make sure in the options that IOS version is set to 60 and dont turn on any hacks yet.

For some reason, with using this guide, my Wii can only read backup US Wii and GCN games from the disk channel. I was wondering if there was a way to fix that so it can read JPN and PAL games.

I don't understand. I have HBC installed and I'm on firmware 4.0. I did the CMDVDX35.dol thing, the next step is using WAD Manager to downgrade. But I constantly keep getting ERROR (RET: -1035) or something. What's the problem?

2) Downgrade system IOS files using IOS Downgrader

This might have been answered already but I was too lazy to read the other 70+ pages. Which IOS system file should I downgrade to in that program if I'm going to use the online upgrading method?

Hi! My dad wants me to take these hacks off because he doesnt want me to ruin anything D;

Right now, I am at the end of step 4

Reading earlier posts (Page 71)

You guys recommended Uninstalling Preloader (which I dont have), then IOS downgrading, then cIOS downgrading, then deleting ios above 200, then upgrading to nintendo's official 4.0

However, my cios downgrader keeps crashing and resseting, I read that you need a cIOS to make it work, would it be safe to run through steps 1-3 on offline? (Install cIOS, IOS downgrade, cIOS downgrade)

Thanks alot!

In the step that you're supposed to install the older IOS35 wad? You're sure the CMDVDX35 ran successfully and everything is in the correct folders on your sd card?

IOS downgrader shouldn't have any options to it if I recall, It just downgrades all of your IOS's to a state that's like 3.2. cIOS downgrader however lets you downgrade(or upgrade in some cases) to any firmware, in that one you're supposed to choose FW 3.2.

What firmware are you on now to begin with? IOS downgrader is just supposed to go through and downgrade any IOS's that need to be downgraded and if there's nothing left to downgrade or install it will just restart.

Make sure there's nothing plugged in in the usb ports gc ports or gc memory card ports on your system and that your internet connection isn't crashing while it's using it to download what it needs. If it's crashing while downloading something I'm inclined to believe it's just a problem with your internet crapping out on it, and you could just try again and make sure nothing else is using too much of your bandwidth or something.

What firmware are you on now? If you never got to a point of installing any cIOS on your system then you most likely haven't done much in terms of hacking your console anyways. If you don't have preloader installed yet then you obviously don't need to uninstall it.

Also you seem confused between the guides. Steps 1-3 being installing cIOS running IOS downgrader and cIOS downgrader is the ONLINE guide not the offline guide. Is all you did on your Wii the first 4 steps of the OFFLINE guide up to just loading the boot.dol that was on your sd card and not doing anything after that? If so, you have done absolutely nothing to your Wii yet and should just delete everything off of your sd card and leave your Wii alone. Trying to run downgraders and stuff randomly without knowing what you've done already is what will make you ruin your Wii. Those steps were recommended for people that actually went through and finished everything in the guide.

Dang I'm sorry, I'm on the 4.0 you get from the Online guide. I followed the online guide not the offline guide.

My problem is that cIOS downgrader wont run, and from what I found out from other posts is that cIOS downgrader needs a cIOS to work.

Well if you really did properly follow the online guide then you already would have installed cIOS, AND have run cIOS downgrader once already. So either you skipped something or just have no idea what you've done so far.

Now I feel really stupid, I went back to cIOS Rev 13 and did step one again, and near the end it had an error (2011) And then said Installation finished.

I guess the first time I did it I overlooked that. Then I IOS downgrade, I watched this one and no errors. Then I overlooked the cIOS downgrade, it was resseting like it is now, but I figured it was because i was already on 3.2 (But now I realize it was because cIOS installation failed!) Then I did step 4, that went with no errors. step 5 had errors but when I was told that IOS60 was for wiiware/VC so I didnt really need it.

Now I feel like such an idiot, all I really did was IOS downgrade, and then update to the 4.0 mentioned in step 4 (online).

Where is my wii's standing right now? If it helps my Wii is LU70.

Just stop and don't do anything else to your Wii, being an LU70, it may even be an LU64+ type of Wii which should under no circumstances be downgraded in any IOS let alone all of them. Doing that could have bricked your Wii, but since it didn't you may have a normal type of Wii luckily. Right now at worst you have a normal 4.0 FW with some IOS's with vulnerabilities still left in them. You've not really installed anything foreign on it yet except the HBC i suppose. If you don't even want that on it, then run the hackmii installer through it and have that uninstall the homebrew channel then exit and next time there's a new firmware update from Nintendo you should be able to just normally update it from there and it will make all of your IOS's officially updated.

*sigh* Thanks, so the online version doesnt even work for 64 and 65 either? Thats why I started them because the offline meathod specifically stated that it wouldnt work on 64+, so I supposed it might work. Ah well the help here is pretty amazing.
Am I safe installing any updates from official legit disks? or should I avoid those until nintendo's next official update?

Hi, thanks for the guide, most of it was straight forward on a virgin Wii, the other that was on 3.2 was a bit more of a pain (upgrading to 4.0) but I got there in the end.
Anyway just one issue on the was a virgin Wii but now 4.0e...

All games work fine through NeoGamma v4 from SD within the Homebrew Channel, but I can't get backups to work from the Disk Channel, the guide said to "If you want to load games from the disc channel you must install CIOSCORP", so I installed all WADs that come with SoftMii v3, but can't get backups to work via Disk Channel (Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart etc).

The other Wii is working fine! I suppose I could just install all WADs again, but don't want to mess anything up, ideally is there 1 WAD that allows Disk Channel loading that I might have missed?
Other guides say to stay away from cIOSCORP stuff, does this mean these guys just use the NeoGamma or other loader to start backups?

Thanks

thanks for your reply,

found out the problem, didnt take out the sd before i ran the 4.0 updater, but now ive got a new problem:
as its downloading the ios's it always freezes at ios 55 package #16. I tried it 3 times and same thing every time.

do you know what im doing wrong?

and i started out on 3.1 so i assume thats why i didnt need the second step..

Thankyou so much for your help your a legend!

EDIT: it freezes at random places even though my internet is all good....it frozen twice at different shop channel packages...is it possible to just do it without the 4.0 updater? just leave it on 3.2?

Wait you took the sd card out after running the 4.0 updater? I didn't say to do that. I was unaware anything would work at all without an sd card in it since the app runs OFF of it. I just told you to take out anything else physically plugged into it in the USB ports or GC ports. Also you don't NEED to update to 4.0 if you don't want to. It's basically just to get the SD card menu and to have an up to date firmware. If you already have your cIOS properly installed you can already run backups through backup/usb loaders.

Edit:

Also to sagemiomo you should be able to update from discs fine if they ask. The only thing it should be doing is updating any IOS's on the disc it has that are newer than the ones you have I believe. And I don't think it would really do anything to the IOS60 on your Wii so it shouldn't brick you or anything. Everything that's on your Wii at the moment is still official Nintendo stuff so any sort of update from them shouldn't harm you in any way.
