I just plugged in my iPod Touch 2nd Gen, to be met by a screen telling me to use the newest update I need to pay £5.99.
Wait, what? I HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM TO UPDATE MY IPOD?
It's not even a good update FFS, but I'm severely irritated if this is Apple's strategy for all forthcoming updates

This is a new thing? I thought they'd already done that before. But iirc the firmware was free for the iPhone, but you had to pay to use it on the iPod Touch.

can i ask about if the ipod updates prices are incremental for each update even I have skipped versions., Say if i skipped this update and apply the next one, am i charged for the prices of 2 updates or 1?

only the small updates are free, you have to pay for the major updates

Well it's not really the same thing.... Win 7 is a whole new os, but the ipod touch updates are only updates not a new os.

isn't that for the 3.0 update? they did the same thing for the 2.0 update. but they don't charge for the updates inbetween(such as 2.10->2.2).
