Hello, I got the rom for pokemon platinum and a R4 clone (R4i) but everytime I save something and try to load it it says that the sav file is corrupt. I have tried formatting the SD card and the sav files are already 1mb, every other game works fine

1) R4i is NOT a r4 clone. It is an Acekard clone.

2) he said "let it make its own save".... not telling you to use a 1mb save... or do you mean it saves as 1mb and you are using the default one created?

Yes, it already saves itself as 1 mb and I am using the default one.. gets corrupted and is 1mb without doing anything special

I had a similar problem with Pokemon Diamond on a R4 cartridge.
I was just saving my progress and mid way through the battery died. I booted the rom up after charging the DS and the game told me that the save had corrupted and that it would take me to the save point before that, luckily there wasn't too much difference. I kept saving the game but more often than not the save file would become corrupt and the game would take me back to the previous save so I had to double save all the time to kinda solve the problem (moving the sav file and renaming the rom and save didnt help either).
So the game should use the next/previous save point if the save is corrupt (and if there is a previous save), but I would just wipe the sav file from your SD card and start a new game.

I formatted my sd card and downloaded the rom again, ran the game, saved as soon as prof Rowan finished talking and before the first dialog with my rival and that seems to be the only working save file, everything beyond that is corrupted... seems like the file gets corrupted after it gets to a certain size?

So I tried copying the working sav file to the game and I could overwrite the sav file and ran it without a problem but when then they stopped working again.. my last working one is in Rowan's laboratory at 23 minutes into the game.

i think it should be firmware related
a firmware update might be your solution
the best of all don't get any cart with the name of r4....(since you have bought it just hope the team will fix it in future)

if you're that intent on playing it without sav corruption, why not just buy the original retail game from the store? Spending money on one retail game that you find that addicting to play is well spent. Use the R4 to play all the other crap.
