I know 4x is the standard but it seems like some people use 12x or 8x and what not. What burning speed do you use for Wii backups?

It really all depends on your burner and media. Most folks will now tell you that burn speed doesn't matter, but with BOTH of my burners, both different, and on different PCs, I get the most consistent results with no read errors at 4x, and read errors almost every time at 16x. 8x is pretty reliable for me, but the Wii has a harder time reading the faster I burn, so I burn as slow as I can.

Realistically, though, I barely burn anything anymore (since USB Loader), unless it's for a friend, or one of those games that USB Loader won't run (Metroid Prime remake).

I hate discs.

It's well known that if you set the booktype to DVD-ROM you'll get DVD+R's to work.

IMGburn 1X speed. Haven't had any trouble yet.

Hmmm, I always though that you should burn Wii games at 1X. There are so many updates in the scene that I have lost track of any updates there are out there. I am guessing from the responses that its alright to burn higher than 1X now. Either way 1X has been fine for me. Any reason to burn faster?

I burned all my games at 8x except for SSBB, but the best speed varies from media to media and burner to burner.
If the discs have a high max speed, burning them at a low speed might do more bad than it does good.
Generally, try not burning at the max speed for the disc. My discs were 16x and I burned them at 8x.

to all of you that think that they burn a 1x or 2x using imgburn , most media don't support lower then 4x , yyou can select 1x 2 x , but it will be burn at 4x ,

4x is the best speed in order to don't kill your drive in your Wii

the slowest it is , the best it is for your drive inside your Wii

I have burned games at 4x, 2.4x and max speed. So far I have had none problems at all, and I use Memorex DVD-R's, with a almost-2-year old disc burner. Also, I don't get myself, why people say to burn at slow speeds, or to burn at high speeds. I see a lot of them saying max speed, or 4x, but I don't see the reason why, and proof. Just wondering.

the best is to use ImgBurn set at AWS (Auto Writting Speed), cause it will balance the writting process depending on your Media/Writter, that really IS the best option, as thebobinc said, some media don't go well with writting under 8X..!!

What a load of bullshit. Nowadays, faster is better, and it is already proven by many. Plus, your terminology is damn wrong. Speed of burning does not affect speed of reading. It's like, my typing speed is 44 words/minute and will that affect your reading speed? No.

EDIT: I use Auto all the time.

I can't burn anymore since both of my burners died a couple of months ago but I used to burn at 4X cause my burners used to have problems when burning at highers speeds.
