Hacking EZ4 question- having too many games in one directory can cause errors?

i just found out that 79 files is the max limit to keep in a single directory. otherwise if you have more than that, then some games won't run. i know you can create another directory to add further additional games. but for savefiles, do i just create another save directory called SAVER2? will some of my games be able to detect it?

you can have about 50 games per folder. this avoids the EZ4 crashing from overloading the listing memory table. This isn't a PC, large listings take an overhead in memory space, which is limited on gba hardware.

As for the saver folder, you will have to randomly remove what saves you don't plan to use.

Lametta, you store games onto a memory card (e.g. microSD, miniSD) and not onto the flashcard itself.

so you could only have 1 save directory which can hold a max of 77 savefiles? there's no other workaround for this? just want to make sure.

but yeah, i realize if you keep too many games in one directory (like at least 50 or 60), then there's a slight lag when you go into the directory before your game files finally show up. which really isn't much of a problem for me.

so no matter how many folders you make.. the limit is 77 savefiles aka 77 games?
because without the saving option a game it's useless...

you don't need a save file for every game since not all of them require saving. or maybe if you're not interested in saving on a particular game, then that can work too. but 77 savefiles is the max for the EZ4. you can store more games if you want, but just know that only 77 of them will be saving.

There is a bug in the file menu listing that prevents properly listing more than 79 files. However, it is quite possible to have a directory with over 79 files. Just don't ever try viewing the saver directory on your GBA, and you'll be fine. Just don't be surprised that it might take quite a long while for saving to happen (for me, it averages around 25 seconds).

If you really don't want to have a save file created for a game, don't patch the game with the ez4_client*. Simply leaving off the .sav file and then running a game that does save will result in an undeletable zero-byte file being created**.

*It might be possible to mark a game as having a 0kbit save to cause it not to save. I haven't tried that out, though.

**Under Linux, fsck.vfat can fix that. Under Windows, chkdsk might fix that, although I've heard many people say they've had to reformat their card to get rid of the file.
