The best week for DS owners in May but to be honest, thats not saying much. For the Wii there is a new heavy hitter from Nintendo and a couple of Wii only EA titles that might actually be good. There are also quite a few others that look worthy of your <strike>DVD-r </strike> cash.

The Japanese releases are coming back too! Japan has some sort of thing where not much comes out in May...can't remember why but there is a slow trickle of titles heading their way including a cool looking Wii RPG from Nintendo.

These dates are what retailers say is out unless stated otherwise, sometimes they make dates up for pre-ordering purposes. These dates could also be "shipping dates" which usually means that that's the date when games get shipped to stores so a game could either be in stores on that day or after. Some games may get delayed some others not listed may appear but at the moment of posting these are correct. Also just because a game is released in stores it doesn't mean that they'll appear on our internets but NA titles usually appear on our 'nets Wednesday night UK time. I love you like a something loves something.<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

*Copy & paste from the last thread* I've finally come to accept publishers rehashing old games but still charging the same price as a all new game, I mean it happens with movies, books, comics & music so why not video games? Anyway here comes another port of an oldie but goldie PC strategy title.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Jagged Alliance is an explosive fusion of role-playing game and turn-based tactical combat, allowing players to become fully immersed in their characters. A new generation of gamers will be charged with liberating the Island of Metavira through the nonlinear gameplay that made the 1994 original so popular amongst gamers.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
They may have aged a fair bit but I still enjoy the old JA games and if this is the sort of game you are after than you could do much worse.

Atlus publishes yet another Japanese game that people want.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->While exploring the thought-to-be-long-abandoned palace of the Ancient Demon King, the young thief Anise stumbles upon a startling discovery: the palace isn't abandoned at all, and it's crawling with demons, no less! Equally startling is the deadly booby trap she triggers in the process of opening a locked door. She barely outruns the giant boulder bearing down on her, escaping the palace only to fall into a surging river, unconscious.

The fairy Kukri, imprisoned for centuries in the chamber Anise inadvertently unlocked, rescues her and takes her to the Castle of Albyon. Anise awakens in the presence of the King, whose son is being held by demons in the very palace Anise narrowly escaped from. Recent events have unshakably convinced the King that this thief is descended from the Legendary Hero of Albyon, he who slew the Ancient Demon King centuries ago, and so he commands her thusly: free the Prince from the vile demons... or be tried and convicted as a thief and locked away for life. Not much of a choice, one way or the other...

Over 150 levels of increasing complexity push your central processing unit (i.e., your brain) to its limits. When you've completed the stages provided, wipe your well-earned tears of joy away and jump into the powerful level creator to design your own devilishly tough maps, placing enemies, constructing moving platforms, and even setting custom victory conditions.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I might get this for the level creator, apparently you can share maps via WFC too which is nice. For those who care about reviews, Famitsu gave it 28/40 & Nintendo Power gave it 6.0/10. How come most Atlus games get average scores? Sometimes reviewers have been right about their games and sometimes totally wrong so give it a try if it sounds like something you want to play.

Based on the book, Lateral Thinking Puzzles by Paul Sloane and Des MacHales, this is the latest title from Level-5 (Layton, Dragon Quest IX & Inazuma Eleven among others). Its part of their "casual brand" Atamania and its a mind bending puzzle book style title. Japan has scored this game very highly so if we ever see it in English (still waiting for Inazuma Eleven) then it may be a game worth looking forward to.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Dawn of Discovery takes place in the year 1404, when King George's land is suffering from severe droughts and brutal famine. Aware of his people's distress, the king calls on his two sons, William and Edward, to acquire new territories in order to produce enough goods to satisfy the needs of his empire's inhabitants. Whereas Edward suggests aggressive means to collect the precious resources, his brother William offers a peaceful solution, proposing to explore new and unsettled lands in the south of the kingdom. With his Father's blessing, William heads south to the mysterious Orient and returns with valuable new technologies such as the water pump that allows dry lands to be cultivated in order to produce enough food for the people. But there are still many unmet needs within the king's empire, and players are tasked with the mission of fulfilling those needs while both expanding and sustaining the vast society.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Punch-Out fans have been waiting since 1994 for this game and though I wasn't fussed about it at first but the more I read and saw of it the more I anticipated the game. For those with a Balance Board, prepare to dust it off as this game uses it. Wanna play old school? You can use the Classic Controller instead or simply just tilt the Wiimote on its side to go NES style. This is a title to buy if you like it, prove to Nintendo that we want more of these and less Wii Music games.

What a shit cover. I guess the excellent first game did well enough for a sequel only less then a year since the first came out.
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->The Boom Blox fun continues with Boom Blox Bash Party, featuring richer multiplayer action and more than 400 new levels that will have players of all ages gaming together and solving action-packed puzzles under water, in zero gravity, and beyond! The game showcases new block types, including: virus and conveyor blox, new blox shapes, such as: cylinders and wedges, and new tools that will make for even more destructive fun. Players now can also sling, launch, and blow the competition away with new cannon, paint ball and slingshot tools.

The fun continues online as Boom Blox Bash Party enables players to download even more new levels via the Internet. With the press of a button, players will be able to grab, play and rate new levels from EA as well as levels created by members of the Boom Blox Bash Party community. Using the game's easy-to-use Create Mode, players now have the power to share the levels they built with friends, or submit their masterpiece to be shared with the world! The expanded Create Mode lets players build and create like never before, giving them access to the same tool set the EA development team used to create each and every level in the game.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
The "bash party" originally made me unsure about this game but after reading more and seeing the trailers I am keen to play this, plus it has more longevity due to the DLC and level creater. With the "party" in the title, expect it to sell a ton more than the first...ah clever EA!

Usually when EA rips a Nintendo game off it usually doesn't measure up as well, this time however their Wii Fit rip off looks to top that game in every way so much so that Nintendo are actually gonna push this title as well as Wii Fit!
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Developed in collaboration with fitness experts, including Bob Greene -- renowned exercise physiologist, author and Oprah's personal trainer -- EA Sports Active is a simple, fun and cost-effective way to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Suitable for the whole family, though designed specifically for women seeking an entertaining way to work out, EA Sports Active features a wide variety of interactive activities combined into a circuit that target both the upper and lower body as well as cardio, and supports two players to allow family or friends to get fit together. The game provides a new level of motivation with on-screen, real-time feedback on your workout such as calories burned, while also allowing you to adjust intensity levels.

The package includes two specially-designed leg straps that hold the Wii's Nunchuk controller to track lower body movements, as well as a resistance band to support a number of upper body strength training exercises. Players can run through the 30 Day Challenge, mode, where each circuit feels different and increases in intensity as fitness levels improve. Users can also create their own custom workouts that vary in activity, duration and intensity, and the Wii Balance Board will add functionality to many exercises.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I didnt like Wii Fit, got old fast and didn't give me any incentive to carry on "playing" it other than to get fit...thing is even Nintendo said that it wasn't meant to keep you fit and it wasn't as effective as walking for half an hour a day. All EA have to do with this title is to make it entertaining and to actually do its job right, just a shame that you'll probably need to get Wii Fit for the Balance Board AND this title for it to truly work.

It got some good scores in Japan all saying that its very good but nothing special. The game is said to be a spiritual successor to the decent DS game LostMagic. I know nothing else but Nintendo are said to show and tell more at E3 this year.

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Dawn of Discovery takes place in the year 1404, when King George’s land is suffering from severe droughts and brutal famine. Aware of his people’s distress, the king calls on his two sons, William and Edward, to acquire new territories in order to produce enough goods to satisfy the needs of his empire’s inhabitants. Whereas Edward suggests aggressive means to collect the precious resources, his brother William offers a peaceful solution, proposing to explore new and unsettled lands in the south of the kingdom. With his Father’s blessing, William heads south to the mysterious Orient and returns with valuable new technologies such as the water pump that allows dry lands to be cultivated in order to produce enough food for the people. But there are still many unmet needs within the king’s empire, and players are tasked with the mission of fulfilling those needs while both expanding and sustaining the vast society.

Wand of Magic looks exactly like LostMagic. Huh. Hopefully it doesn't have a plot that completely collapses at the end the way LostMagic did.

And if they're giving us Jagged Alliance, how about X-Com? Come on, people, it's not that hard!

Steal Princess is great for the first few levels and gets pretty terrible the further you go along. The controls need to be a lot more precise than they are, and as the puzzles get more complex they become less intuitive and more like a chore. It's a shame, because it could have been a great game. I'd say it deserves the average reviews.

I'm really hoping Jagged Alliance is good...one of my favorite games. If they released X-Com for DS, I'd buy two. No, three.

I'm really into strategy games at the moment so hopefully Jagged Alliance or Anon 1404 are good picks.
Thanks for the update, Hadrian!

X-Com would be a much more logical game for a portable system, too. It's much more heavily divided into separate little 'phases' than JA is, with comparatively less connection between them -- much better for a game you play in short bursts (or a game you play until 3 in the morning, but that's just because it's so addictive.)

New Anno games ftw! And Steal Princess looks good. Well, for Yugioh, the J version had multi language options anyway.....

So Jagged Alliance was pushed back? Reminds me of the 2 games to be published by grafitti.....

Meh...interested in Jagged Alliance and curious to see how I fare with the English version of Steal Princess. Not much else I care about, except for Swords & Soldiers, but it's not releasing for U.S., as far as we know. I do look forward to its release here, though. Punch-Out!? Totally meh about the whole thing, although I am morbidly excited to watch and read about people's disappointment with the game once they finally play it -- at least those who actually pay the $50 for it. Seems like it would have made a good WiiWare game, but file size alone does not justify the full retail price of that thing. But whatever...ride the nostalgia train if it takes you home.

I'm really hoping Jagged Alliance is good...one of my favorite games.

Agreed, excellent PC Games, including X-Com too. Released ahead of there time along with Civ 1.

Its a lot bigger than you think it is, I thought the same until I read more about it. They really have crammed a ton of stuff into the game and there is still a lot more they've yet to say about it.

Wait and see.
