First of all, all you people who say it's illegal because the author didn't give permission need to seriously crawl back into what ever hole you came out from.

All these apps are licensed under the GNU. As long as credit is given in the zip, or the app itself still has the authors name displayed when run, it's 100% perfectly legal.

So, suck it long, and suck it hard Trebek. I'll take The Penis Mightier for $200

I know sometimes i write in the wrong tone, but that?

Under which license is the HBC.wad? Do you have a source that confirms it's something you are allowed to pack into every package you want?

No, the HBC was never and probably will never licensed under the "GNU" (you probably wanted to say GNU GPL here. it's not licensed under that one either)

This means that he is not allowed to include a HBC.wad and it would be great if icefire would remove it. Thanks.

I believe this is basically saying it's okay to redistribute as long as it's not for commercial;

QUOTE said:
The Homebrew Channel and the Twilight Hack are strictly distributed as a free download from this website. Any
kind of sale, bundling, or redistribution in association with commercial activity is strictly
forbidden and a violation of copyright. - http://hbc.hackmii.com/scam/

EDIT:
QUOTE said:
Now, neither the Twilight Hack nor the Homebrew Channel (among others) are distributed under the GPL, GFDL, or any other GNU licenses
QUOTE
Therefore, redistribution, and especially sale, are forbidden. While we’re okay with free internet distribution by other parties (mirrors), any kind of sale is obviously crossing the line (and that includes any sale of a “guide” with “bundled” software).

What will happen on LU64+ wii's?
Will it just fail or perhaps even brick?
It will fail.
Installing the HBC via WAD will give you the middle finger, and will make updates useless (if there'll be one).

Untrue. I used a .wad package (beta 8) to install last night. It game me the middle finger but was able to upgrade, and was fine after that.

I can't say much to the validity of this method.... I have a launch-day Wii, upgraded with Waninkoko's 4.0 process, and then (like an idiot) deleted my HBC. So all I had to do was use a downgrader and a Wad Manager and I was back in action again. But at least I can say that an improperly installed HBC channel can be updated.

if you had updated with wanins updater you could have done that without downgrading

SERIOUSLY

STOP talking about legal stuff here! we know that we're here because we hack our Wii and thats already ILLEGAL. read the world again ILLEGAL!!!!!! ~ thats why Nintendo try to keep update their firmware. READ again one more time! its ILLEGAL.

WE hack our wii because :

1. We want to play pirated game.
2. We want to play free VC game.
3. We want to make our wii special.

So instead of flamming people that try to make guide, show us that YOU also can be bother to write a BETTER (or WORST) guide for us to follow.

appreciate what other people try to do for community and stop being arrogant people that talk about LEGAL or ILLEGAL stuff!!!!!.. if they made mistake then try to PM them NICELY and stop talking about nonsense of LEGAL stuff ( i bet you're not a lawyer, or maybe you from FBI LOL)

man i lost respect of wiipower, i thought he's the legend poster or coder but suddenly talking about legal stuff, all people here are no different with pirated. and JUSt admit it that you do ILLEGAL stuff TOO!
