if sony do bring out,as expected a umdless psp, any idea what that will mean for games? Will they still do them as umds? if not, do you think the downloaded games will be filled with some drm meaning that us with older psps wont get any more backups from internet?

Nobody knows for sure but if Sony release a new PSP it will most probs be without UMD drive, but for those new games Sony will probs need to still sell the UMD for the older PSPs.
No because UMDs will still be sold and if they aren't digital downloads will be cracked. Digital downloads will probably be the same price as UMD so UMD will probably keep going.

No, they don't. The old PSPs can play ISOs just fine, in fact, it was Sony that put in the perfect ISO loader to the old models. The reason Sony would continue to sell UMDs are for the people who simply don't have an adequate internet connection and there are few of those.

Yeah I Don't think there will be a mad rush to download a large 1.5 - 2gb game direct to PSP or try with one of those crappy 3G dongle internet sticks with a whopping 7kb download speed that seem to be the craze lately!? .. (no ideas why they are pretty crappy for everyday internet use and cost a fortune anyhow!)

Well it was a smart move for Sony to pick Patapon 2 to test out user acceptance, as it was only ~300MB and a lot of people actually preferred the DL version in Japan (I'm guessing the price difference played a big role).
In general, Sony's been offering DL versions for cheaper than tangible versions for both PS3 and PSP.
As long as the next Sony handheld is region free, I don't care if they sell tangible versions or not, or whether it's hackable or not.

And if that's Sony's aim, to only appeal to the tech savvy, then they'll never achieve the sales they want, and completely fail to make a dent in the DS's dominance. Unless they take into account the casual, instead of going even more niche, then they really are losing the plot!

sod that, that would mean downloading the game to the MS which in turn will result in more money being shelled out on more MS's as the likely hood of transferring games to the PC will be hassle
