Ok, this is insane. I think this was rumored jokingly a while back, but it's......real?

Apparently this news was accidentally announced on a GDC slide on Harmonix's release schedule.

I'm really speechless. I'm halfway between "wut?" and "why?". Really, do we NEED a Lego Rock Band? Why would they release such a thing? And what were they thinking? Too many drugs? Who knows....

For LEGO fans like me who play all their crap because the actual products are too.damn.expensive.

I just can't see any music working with LEGO figures going at it though. Maybe some... quirky Christmas or other themed music, or something >__>;

I can't either. I don't see what the point would be. Rockband has a clear gameplay mechanic, but what would making the band members LEGOs add to that?

The character models are only there for show, so I don't get it. Unless maybe they plan on doing something with the guitar neck and note markers.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss. People probably said "what could Lego possibly add to a Star Wars game?", but they managed to come up with something. If the game is even being developed, you're assuming that it will just be Rock Band with a Lego skin. And if the previous games are any indication, it seems likely that they will come up with more than that.
