The hacked system menu 3.2 v289 didn't work when I tried loading it through wad manager it gave me error ret -1029

Any other possible fixes?

Ok, so I still have this semi-brick error that I cannot access the settings in the Wii so I cannot use Any Region Changer.
Also, the v289 system menu hack .wad files doesn't work

From what I can gather, my friend installed the homebrew channel on firmware 3.3U and may have messed up the region. Is there any fix at all for this or is his Wii dead?
Still nothing works... is there even a way for me to upgrade to 3.4U then and undo everything and then I can easily downgrade from there?

If you get error -1017 somewhere you know it's 3.3v2 and you need to downgrade to be able to use the application that gave you this error. AnyTitleDeleter, WAD Manager and cIOS installers are some programs which require a trucha bugged IOS(which you don't have at 3.3v2 and up).

I want to update to 4.0, but I don't know if wads can be install. Will they work/be installed if I update? From the SD menu?
Also, what is this "trucha signing" and stuff?

Edit: Whats "NAND" too?

Wads will still install if you have HBC and a cIOS installed before updating, using WadManager 1.3. There are numerous methods being used right now for unofficially upgrading to 4.0. You should really wait until they have been tested more before you try them. (A few bricks have been reported using Waninkoko's upgrader for example. This may be rumor, I don't know firsthand.)

There are mixed reports about "unofficial" wad's launching successfully from SD. Some people say you can do it if you use the upgrader mentioned above. Others have claimed that IOS60 still needs to be manually patched after the upgrade for SD launching to work.

Be patient and see what developes in the coming weeks.

The NAND is the wii's internal storage. Your channels, firmware/IOSes, and System Menu live there.

I upgraded to 4.0 using waninkoko's firmware upgrader. Everything works fine, besides that my wad manager disc does not work anymore, when insert it on the wii menu it just goes to a black screen that says: "An error has occurred. Press the Eject Button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii console off and refer to the Wii Operations Manual for help troubleshooting."
There a fix for this?

I have a noobish question. I want to install a couple of nes .wad NTSC files. Will these create new channels? How do I play them? Currently, I am using the emulator thru the homebrew channel and loading roms.

It's not supposed to work from the disc channel anymore. All updates since 3.3v2 kill trucha signed discs.

PS: Trucha signed discs are EVERYTHING that isn't an original game or a COMPLETELY UNCHANGED 1:1 copy of one.

You need to install wad manager 1.3 , then you need to place your nes games/wads onto a micro sd and put then into a folder called wads.

Then run wad manager and follow the onscreen instructions, easy :-)

Make sure you use ntsc on U only systems and Pal on E system, if its not the right region you can change the game/wad by using a program called " freethewads ".

And yes once the games have been installed they will come up as individual channels , i think most games can be played via the wii controller but some i thin require a gamecube controller in port 1 to work.

Hello,
I've just got myself a Wii. It's a PAL console with System Menu 3.2E and came with a WiiKey updated to 1.9. I haven't had that much time to test it thoroughly yet - I've installed the Homebrew channel via the Twilight hack (the selfboot ISO didn't work for some reason), tried installing a WAD which worked flawlessly. I also put the GeckoOS in there just in case. Now, as far as Wii games are concerned, I've had more problems than I could possibly want to deal with. Retail games work (played Wii Sports a few times, no problems there), however I have multiple issues with backups. For example, I tried Madworld, which only booted via Gecko, but just kept displaying a 'disc could not be read' error even though I used Verbatim DVD's and burned and 4x. Boom Blox doesn't work at all, just says an error has occured and the console should be restarted. Zack & Wiki works without a hitch, even though it's a backup disc. So, I guess I'll summarise my questions:

1. What are IOSes? I installed like 3 or 4 so Madworld would work, do I need others as well for other games?
2. Why does a game run through Gecko (which I understand is used to boot games from outside your region), but not through the disc channel?
3. If I updated to System Menu 4, what would I lose? I would like to keep HBC of course, and I'm thinking it would help with booting newer games.
4. Brickblocking? Someone suggested I should brickblock ISO's before burning to make them work. Why? I haven't seen a 'you need to update your console' message yet.
5. cIOSes, cIOS corporations, Gamma loaders, preloaders...could someone explain these terms, or point me to somewhere I can read up?

Input/Output Systems. They control almost everything from the wii,new games may require installation of new cIOS

2. Why does a game run through Gecko (which I understand is used to boot games from outside your region), but not through the disc channel?
It boots games from all regions. The disc channel is not used (its more like a disc channel replacement)

3. If I updated to System Menu 4, what would I lose? I would like to keep HBC of course, and I'm thinking it would help with booting newer games.
The ability to install wads, and some more things. I suggest reading topics about 4.0
HBC will not be deleted, but if you delete it manually, you cant install it again (Twilight hack doesn't work yet)

4. Brickblocking? Someone suggested I should brickblock ISO's before burning to make them work. Why? I haven't seen a 'you need to update your console' message yet.
Brickblocking is not advised, as it makes discs Trucha signed (and thus unreadable on 3.3v2 and higher firmware)
Updates can be blocked by Starfall / Preloader (if your on 3.2) for the dsic channel . Running the game with GeckoOs / Backup Launcher will also skip the update

5. cIOSes, cIOS corporations, Gamma loaders, preloaders...could someone explain these terms, or point me to somewhere I can read up?
cIOS: custom IOS, an IOS not made by Nintendo
cIOSCorp: program that installs many cIOS on the wii. Makes it possible running backups through dsic channel
Gamma Loader: The current last version of the backup launcher. Launches backups (=non original games) without using disc channel.
Preloader: homebrew app that is able to load before the system menu does. This makes it possible to recover from bricks (not all) and gives more advantages. Check http://wiibrew.org for more info

Hi guys. I am currently on Softmii 2.1, and I would like to update to 4.0 firmware. What must I do to retain all my softmii functions? I have metroid prime from japan that I would like to play, as well as my downgraded MIOS, and disc channel loading. I took the liberty to download icefireicefire's updater, and cios v8. What else do I need?

Wow, thanks. What combination of homebrew do you recommend? GeckoOS and Gamma are already in there, so I guess I need to install a host of IOSes? Which ones? Do I need to run most games through the HBC or the disc channel?

The homebrew browser just downloads apps and stores them to sd, you dont need a file structure on the sd
I don't know how to load it from DVD...
Emulators load from SD card, but the roms can be loaded from dvd with most of them. Just check their wiibrew pages

No problem
What I recommend? Well its mostly up to you
There's a lot you can do with a softmod
smile.gif

So it depends on what you want (Disc channel backups / gc (disc channel) backups / custom wii themes or health screens / emulators / ...)
Some of them need new IOS, which ones depend on what you choose
read the stickies and some other threads (like miiwii)
