Final Fantasy remakes, as it's quite obvious that squeenix put more effort and love into the FF re-makes, while the DQ re-makes looks like they ripped the graphics, whipped out a cheapass 2D engine slapped in the various texts and shouted: SHIP IT NOW! BY GOD! AND LET THE BUCKZORZ ROLL ON IN!
That said, I've yet to play an DQ (1-3, 4, 7, and 8) that I found to be superior to the FF games (I-X, & XII). They're basically very similar in mechanics in many cases, keeping a nice flow of levelup goodies, yet absolutely none of the DQ stories have ever grabbed me, while one or two of the FF's have... (II & IX(with a heavy helping of the I like the return of the job mechanics...))
As to best DQ? I just voted for 5 from prior experience, and re-inforcement of exactly how dull and tedious IV is... (In most RPGs the low levels are the funnest to play, yet DQIV makes them seem like a never-ending chore in the circle of hell that contains incessant low-level grinding with a dull and uninspired storyline. OTOH have DQI-III on the GBC was great, as they were one of the very few even remotely close to a modern RPG available on a handheld for a long time... also kind of like Pokemon for the same reason, and the Shin Megami Tensei game, Demon Slayer: Revelations(?))
