Hi guys,

I am a noob to Wii hacking and is seeking help from you guys.

My Wii come with the softchip loader R58. It was working fine all till i uninstall the IOS249.
I uninstall the IOS249 cos i was having problem making the wad manager to work.

Could anyone please advise how can i make my softchip loader work again?
I know nuts on these hacking thingy.

I read through the tread and found that i need to install the CIOS249? And the lastest version of softchip is R77 now.
Should i try installing the CIOS249 to see if my softchip will work again? or i can simply delete my R58 channel and install the new R77 to solve the problem?

please advise, thanks!

All the new Softchips/Backup Loders use 249 so you need them, I had r76 just today updated to r77 and it runs prefect.

Edit also there are game that have to be patch to 249.
* Added some FAT checks
* Updated Headers (2009)
* Reset Button stops AutoBoot now

Could you kindly enlighten me what is the files i need inorder for the softchip loader to runs?
Firstly, my set is running at 3.2U version. And now i dont have any IOS249 in my set.

i found a few file and need your advises whether what other is needed.
1)cIOS_249-rev6_rr.wad
2)SoftChipR76M.wad

These are the step which i will be doing. please let me know if i am correct.

1) manually delete the softchip channel in my wii
2) install the cIOS_249-rev6_rr.wad using the wad manager v1.3.
3) install the SoftChipR76M.wad using the wad manager v1.3

I should be able to run the softchip loader now right? do i still need the SoftChipR76M.dol file?

Just as Jizmo said you want cIOS36 rev 7 to install 249. So I believe you would need to uninstall cIOS_249-rev6_rr.wad and install cIOS36 rev 7.

It doesn't matter in which order you install SoftChip or the cIOS. SoftChip works fine without any cIOS, but just can't run backup then. And if SoftChip is installed, this has no influence at the installation of the cIOS.

And if you are a noob, please run all your applications from the HBC, this way the cIOS is the only thing you need to install. The rest is just run from the HBC and "installed" on your sd card. As long as you don't know how to recover from a bad wad, nobody should even give you the information how to install them.

The cIOS that i found is a dol file. hence i should be runing this dol from the HBC to install the cIOS into my Wii right?

As for the softchip R77 which kavid provide to me comes with a wad and dol file. being a noobs, i should be using only dol file through HBC and simply ignore the wad file right?

Thanks!

Yes, i don't want to be mean, i just don't want people to brick their Wii. You need an apps folder on your sd card and there a subfolder for every application with a boot.dol inside. For the cIOS installer for example /apps/cios installer/boot.dol or for SoftChip: /apps/SoftChip/boot.dol. If you get a .dol from somebody, just rename it to boot.dol and put it in a sperate folder under /apps/, this way you can run ALL applications which are available as channel except the HBC.

Thank you for your detail explanation. I understand how the HBC read from the SDcard.

I am more unsure in the different version and cIOS to install on my Wii. Cos i had found that is many different cIOS. On top of that, some comes in both .dol and wad format which i am lost in which file to use.

From the net i found i need to uninstall default IOS249 to make my wad manager work which i encounter error -1029.
Indeed, my wad manager works after but my softchip fail to work then. Being worried to further doing the wrong move hence seek help from here.

Cheers!

Ok, you deleted IOS249? SoftChip works without IOS249, but it can't read backups without a cIOS. Install a cIOS36rev7 anywhere, and set SoftChip to use it.

The instructions are included in SoftChip!
From memory I think you press +, then you select IOS249.
Just read the screen, it tells you what to do

Do you have a folder on the ms root named Softchip and within it place a .dol (example gamma.dol rename loader.dol).
