I received one of those infamous warnings a few years back about some shitty mp3 i downloaded... Im on comcast cable here in the states.... I regularly download 2-300 gigs of data a month (movies tv shows music games porn etc) and haven't received any warnings since. Downloading isn't illegal... its uploading to others that is, unfortunately if everyone just leaches no one would be able to get anything. The big thing to worry about is if you are re-distributing for a profit... that is when you WILL get prosecuted if caught. Otherwise they tend to just warn/scare you hoping that will stop you from downloading. IF your truly worried then burn everything to dvd wipe it from your HDD and lock it in a safe when not in use.

No one can catch you pirating without breaking the law unless you:

A:Show a Video of yourself confessing to pirating and showing the pirated games in your hand

B:You signed a contract that allowed otherwise.

C: Post on a forum saying that you are worried because you pirated.

Your ISP can monitor what you download and cancel your connection but they can't file lawsuits or send a warrant out for your arrest.

For example, I have comcast and One time I downloaded SOCOM for the PSP (when I used to hack that bitch) and Comcast sent me a Notice saying "You have Downloaded the torrent SOCOM, Please stop downloading torrents or else we'll be threatened to disable your internet connect or take anymore action".

I've downloaded more than 10 games since, they've done nothin. But what they can do is traffic shape. Comcast traffic shapes like a mother f#*$@, My downloads are reduced to 70kb/s. It took me 3 full days to download each Wii game.

To get past the traffic shaping use torrent encyption and a non standard port. Since doing that i easily get 700k+ on torrents with my record being 1.9 MB a sec.

I pirated like 6 wii games from the time I got my modchip. and like 20 DS games. I am kind of worried that I might get caught by the whoever. I live in the USA so it is illegal to mod the Wii. What are the chances of getting in trouble? I only pirate because MOST Wii games are shit and not worth the money. Is there any software I can download that will protect me either? I just straight up download the games....

You really don't sound like you pirated them.... It sounds more like you downloaded them, there's a big difference. If you just downloaded a few games them I would not be worried at all. ripping and uploading a game is alot worse but unless you're running a warez group they probably aren't too concerned with you.

The FBI doesn't care if you download games.

If anything, game companies go after those who upload games. Why waste their time going after every single pirate when they can just stop pirating at the source? You're safe.

You pirated six wii games? Oh my GOD!!!

(pause for dramatic effect)

I'm afraid that doesnt meet the minimum pirate quota... you arent even allowed to sing that song yet. Yar har fiddle de deee

and before you say it.. i know what you're thinking "But.. but i also got 20 DS games".. handhelds don't count.. everyone knows that.. and neither do roms from old systems... you cant just get a spiffy "pirate" badge from getting an iso with 2000 snes roms. Life just doesn't work like that.. no matter how many times you watched Pirates of the Caribbean.

So keep sailing those internets for more digital booty... and perhaps oneday... after years and years of hard work.. you might end up with spindles upon spindles of copied games you have absolutely no interest in playing.

THAT is when you go out and buy a little treasure chest.. bury it in your back yard and sing that universally beloved pirate song!!

I think of it this way. If they suddenly want to start cracking down on piracy, there are plenty of people that they would go after before us. There are people downloading and hosting files everyday for us to download. They'll go after people like that before they go after us.

Yea... I have well over 200 pirated Wii games not to count NDS roms and other loads of pirated games and software in my library... not including previous machines loaded with old pirated vintage classics such as Commmodore 64, Amiga, Atari, all most every game system emulator and roms I have... I don't do anything with the stuff but just keep it stored... even the games I have for the Wii now... that I have managed to get quite a few at 2.3mbs speeds (private torrent sites and ftps)... The world of piracy will never stop as long as they don't ever stop feeding us stuff to hack... I love the challenges even at my level of PCing...which is not nearly as well as it should be..for all the years I have sat on endless hours soaking up different ventures computing... All in all... it has been fun... Everyone of us has our limits to how piracy can be carried... to me a hacker is alot more dangerous than a pirate.. Because a hacker can also have the pirate in him and be totally dangerous... Think about how many times you see pirates hack software and then put something in the installer that some n00b doesn't catch with their crappy security apps? Those are the ones to watch out for... they give us the "bad name... and the crazy thing is alot of the software companies release their own "pirated" version with a virus to lure the n00bs in to leer them away from piracy... Hey that keeps me coming... I like a challenge.... even if the end result becomes something like a "VirusMonde" that keeps coming back... forcing a reformat of the system... I have been there myself... I don't think there has been a pirate that hasn't experienced that one a time or 2... we learn... the challenge is there... I love being a damned pirate with a little hacking skills.. I do nothing harmful to anyones system but my own if I fuck it up... I fuck it up... It keeps this mind occupied.

I dont see a reason to be worried about Piracy. Because how many people do you really see in the news arrested for it? Hence, why i started downloading. If i had a super computer with loads of space and could play every game, you would expect to see a folder for every system and their emulators. and of course starcraft 2

Well, here in Mexico we consider (I haven't read the actual law) piracy when you make a profit out off something that doesn't belongs to you, and here you can really see people getting arrested for selling music cd's, movie dvd's, video games and software....!!!
