How it seems the be the most mainstream flashcart. Whenever I bring that I own a flashcart that lets me play DS roms, the other person is always like, "Oh, you mean like an R4?". Whenever I hear a speck of news about flashcarts in general, or homebrew in general, it's always about the R4. It just bugs me, because there are so many great carts out there like the Cyclo and AK2, that aren't getting the recognition that they deserve.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Yeah, anywhere outside of the scene it seems like the R4 is the only device in existence. Articles all over talk about R4s as if they're the only way to run homebrew/ROMs, and forums which aren't specifically about the DS are hell, especially if someone there has an R4 and won't concede that they're old and dead.

Yea I notice that. Every single person I know of ( I Met In Real Life ) owns a R4DS.

I am the only one that doesn't have an R4. And whenever someone says that they can play NDS roms, I always guess an R4 and I get it right.'

(the name of the thread is what lit my fuse)
You might as well say it's a shame about the Thunderbird processor becoming obsolete.
Progress progresses (hence the name)
Nothing you buy will ever last you Forever.

Yes, R4 is the one Everybody has heard of.
Being people who are better informed,
it's our job to pass that word along.
Otherwise people are going to get the wrong impression about what is possible with today's flashcarts.

If these people are "friends", you'll set them straight about the condition of the market, as it is today.
If they're not.....*shrug* whatever dood.

Well since most people who get flashcarts are a part of GBAtemp (or have at least read through some threads here), I don't think it's as big of a deal as it used to be. I know exactly what you're talking about though. Especially since most tutorials on Youtube and elsewhere use the R4.

The R4 seems to be the 'noob' device. Anyone can use it, JUST for playing games. Most dont even know how to backup their saves or something similar.

I went on youtube. And all I read was all about the R4DS...

I saw a few other vids about the AceKard, SuperCard and CycloDS but if it's not the R4 it's the M3 Simply.

it's not a bad thing the R4 is mainstream, at least authority won't be cracking down on Cyclo's, Acekards, or DSTTs. I don't care if anybody else has an R4, they're the ones missing out on the homebrew and SDHC

I'm sick of it too..

"is that an R4?"

"no, it's a cyclo ds."

"well i heard r4 is the best, i don't know what kind of knockoff you have."

lmao he's the one missing out then on rts, slow mo, playing gba straight from the gui, dsorganize and other homebrew apps. i'm glad r4 is dead, i didn't like the gui, it was great at the time when i had it, but soon i realized i wanted sdhc and better compatilibility.

Thank god I did some research, and found out that there were so many other cards that are way better, When i first found out about it all I could find was stuff about the r4 or m3 simply, and since i found out the r4 was discontinued, i went with the m3 simply but found out there was two kinds, so I ended up looking around and decided the m3 real was alot better. Thank god I did.

I am very happy with my card. Thank god I found this site too.

Speaking of all the noobs outside of this forum, I was just reading through a thread on another forum comparing the Acekard2 and CycloDS. Most people agreed that the Acekard2 was better than the CycloDS. If people said that on this forum, they would be corrected fast!

Depends on how you look at it. For under $10 you can get the AK2, which is a damned good card. Up that to $30-$35 and you can get the Cyclo, which has rts and gui gba boot (um, yay? I guess). Rts is nice, but gui gba booting isn't exactly a huge selling point for myself, and I don't know about slo mo. Slomo did nothing for me in the NES era, so I doubt it will do anything for me now.

I'd agree that based on value, the DSTT is the better card.

Also JDMEVOIXMR, what are you on about with homebrew? I've never had ANY problem with any homebrew I've tried on my R4. DSO included.

When I say better cart, I don't mean better value, because I agree with you 100% that the Acekard2 is the better value. What they were debating though is which is the better cart (not worrying about price) and the CycloDS wins hands down.
