Gaming Daxter all laggy on my PSP

Title ^.

It's in CSO format with 711MB.
Should I download an ISO and compress it with a low level compression, say.. 3 or 4?

The game lags every few seconds and the subtitles during cutscenes flicker on and off.

Would redownloading and then compressing myself work better?

What driver are you using? I know that the m33 driver plays the game just fine.

M33. I was thinking that maybe the CSO that I downloaded was compressed with level 9? Resulting in a tad bit of lag? DUnno. O.o

You dont need to re-download the iso, just un-cso the cso! Use umdgen to open the cso and save as iso. Also make sure that the speed in game is set to 333

Make sur it's clocked at 333, try using the .iso version, or simply use a different memory card. If none of those make it a little faster, then it's just the way the game is, and it can't be helped.

you can convert it back to ISO using something like CiSO_Converter

as above though over clock your psp to 333 and test it again ... if that isnt enough try the FAT PATCH for your mem stick

google for and download Fatmspatch for 5.01

put the fatmsmod.dat file in the root of your mem card and the FATMSPatcher folder and its contents into the GAME folder and run it like a game EBOOT

this patches slower cards to run a little faster not much but sometimes it helps!

this patch is ONLY for phat PSP's (psp 1000's) if your running psp 2k then this will do absolutely nothing.... hence the name of the appy FATSMODPATCH!!

issue sounds to me like 1 of 2 things, either your clock speed is really low, or the cso has been compressed at a very high level.

so
1) check clock speed, set to 333 in game and test, if this does not work then..
2) use an app to convert compress cso back to iso and test iso speeds... if still not work then download a new image...

also formatting your Memstick to fat16 will do nothing, i recommend ALWAYS formatting via the PSP mem stick formatter, however other people may sudgest otherwise...and on top of that, if you have a crappy generic 10 dollar 4 gig sd card, that could also be your problem... ive only seen great speed results from sandisk or sony ms cards.... if you cheap out you get what you pay for....

I bought an official 4gig Sony card from the Sony store.
Also, can you use UMDgen on a CSO and save it (as a CSO) with a different compression level? Or does it only work from ISO -> CSO?

I've tested levels 1, 3, 4, 9 for compression and all lag the same amount. (CSO ----Change compression level and save---> CSO)

what you pay for....

fatmsmod works on the PSP2k, the name FATMSMODPATCH actually refers to the FAT/FAT32 format of a memory stick, according to DarkAlex, Sony has made the MS driver slower since OFW3.80, this applies to both PSP1k and PSP2k.

Although, I believe the patch only makes the game/media listing in XMB faster and hardly affect gaming performance, I have tried it on my PSP2k myself.

Yes umdgen probably does compress cso to cso but the bottom line is this: if you don't want lag, leave it uncompressed as an ISO

Some games just don't play very well in CSO format and Daxter is one of them. The GTA games are others. Just unCSO it and play with the ISO.
