Wow its about time, just streamed it through my HD tv, looks great, I wouldnt say it looks 720p but definitely very nice quality!

fmt=18 lets you view it at 640x480 on a higher bitrate (some movies were re-encoded to allow this). fmt=22 however, lets you watch the video in 720p Widescreen HD, if it was uploaded when the new service was rolled out and the video source itself was 720p or higher. At the moment, you actually NEED to add in fmt=22 on the end of the URL to access the HD option, clicking "view in high quality" just gives you the 480p option.

EDIT: Toni - to be honest, it was a suprise to most. I only found out through Neowin. I know Youtube had plans to compete with Hulu, but had no clue it was going to be launching HD services so soon.

I actually saw this two days ago, I thought to myself "wow thats good for youtube" but it didnt click in my feeble mind that they launched a new HD service lol

This is great! Since I can't stand youtube quality....
But it will probably be a while till we start see the majority of videos in 720p.

Nah they did high quality, which was still 4:3 and barely 480p, they have a new 720p service now.

great now all we need to get are HD screens each and a BROADBAND connection worthy of actually using the service so that it does not stutter or lag due to bandwith throttling and this will be GREAT! lol
